We investigate tacitly assumed relationships between the concepts of super-fluidity (-conductivity), long range order and entanglement. We prove that the three are by no means equivalent, but that notwithstanding, some rigorous implication can be established between them. This leads to three different, albeit frequently related, notions of "criticality", all of which are exemplified within the Hubbard model in the low density regime. We use Peierls' method of twisted Hamiltonians to link the existence of entanglement to superfluidity and (quasi)-long range order. As an application of our formalism, we show that recent experiments with cold atoms already prove the existence of the field theoretic, spatial entanglement in two dimensions. More interestingly, the appearance of entanglement in these experiments seems to be intimately related to the phase transition of the Kosterlitz Thouless type.
Entanglement and nonlocality are both fundamental aspects of quantum theory, and play a prominent role in quantum information science. The exact relation between entanglement and nonlocality is however still poorly understood. Here we make progress in this direction by showing that, contrary to what previous work suggested, quantum nonlocality does not imply entanglement distillability. Specifically, we present analytically a 3-qubit entangled state that is separable along any bipartition. This implies that no bipartite entanglement can be distilled from this state, which is thus fully bound e…
We show that bipartite entanglements involving non-orthogonal states are {\it necessarily nonmaximally} entangled, however {\it small} the non-orthogonality may be. How the deviation from maximal entanglement is related to nonorthogonality is quantified by using two independent measures of entanglement corresponding to the violation of Bell's inequality and the entropy measure respectively. This result is true even if one of the subsystems has orthogonal states. An application of this is that a maximal violation of Bell's inequality in entangled neutral kaons is not possible in the presence of…
The existence of correlations between the parts of a quantum system on the one hand, and entanglement between them on the other, are different properties. Yet, one intuitively would identify strong $N$-party correlations with $N$-party entanglement in an $N$-partite quantum state. If the local systems are qubits, this intuition is confirmed: The state with the strongest $N$-party correlations is the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state, which does have genuine multipartite entanglement. However, for high-dimensional local systems the state with strongest $N$-party correlations may be a tens…
It is possible to find the nonlocality type of correlations between particle pairs retrospectively, matched with the outcomes of a future entangling measurement. But this does not imply nonlocality in subensembles of product pairs, nor does it imply an influence propagating backwards in time.

Entanglement witnesses (EWs) constitute one of the most important entanglement detectors in quantum systems. Nevertheless, their complete characterization, in particular with respect to the notion of optimality, is still missing, even in the decomposable case. Here we show that for any qubit-qunit decomposable EW (DEW) W the three statements are equivalent: (i) the set of product vectors obeying \bra{e,f}W\ket{e,f}=0 spans the corresponding Hilbert space, (ii) W is optimal, (iii) W=Q^Γ with Q denoting a positive operator supported on a completely entangled subspace (CES) and Γstanding for the …

What correlations are present in the ground state of a many-body Hamiltonian? We study the relationship between ground-state correlations, especially entanglement, and the energy gap between the ground and first excited states. We prove several general inequalities which show quantitatively that ground-state correlations between systems not directly coupled by the Hamiltonian necessarily imply a small energy gap.
The dynamics of entanglement between two photons with one of them passing through noisy quantum channels is characterized. It is described by a simple factorization law which was first theoretically proposed by Konrad {\it et al.} [Nature Phys., 4, 99 (2008)]. Quantum state tomography process is employed to reconstruct the reduced density matrixes of the final states and the corresponding concurrences are calculated. Good fittings between experimental results and theoretical predictions are found, which imply the validity of the general factorization law in the characterization of entanglement…
We propose a new entanglement measure to quantify three qubits entanglement in terms of negativity. A monogamy inequality analogous to Coffman-Kundu-Wootters (CKW) inequality is established. This consequently leads to a definition of residual entanglement, which is referred to as three-$π$ in order to distinguish from three-tangle. The three-$π$ is proved to be a natural entanglement measure. By contrast to the three-tangle, it is shown that the three-$π$ always gives greater than zero values for $W$ and GHZ classes, implying there always exists three-way entanglement for them, and three-tangl…
We investigate entanglement transformations with stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) in an asymptotic setting using the concepts of degeneration and border rank of tensors from algebraic complexity theory. Results well-known in that field imply that GHZ states can be transformed into W states at rate 1 for any number of parties. As a generalization, we find that the asymptotic conversion rate from GHZ states to Dicke states is bounded as the number of subsystems increase and the number of excitations is fixed. By generalizing constructions of Coppersmith and Winogra…
Recently, the problem of discriminating multipartite unitary operations by local operations and classical communication (LOCC) has attracted significant attention. The latest work in the literature on this problem showed that two multipartite unitary operations can always be perfectly distinguished by LOCC when a finite number of runs are allowable. However, in these schemes, local entanglement (an entangled state holden by one party) was required, which seems to imply that local entanglement is necessary for perfect discrimination between unitary operations by LOCC. In this article, we show t…
We investigate and quantify various measures of bipartite and tripartite entanglement in the context of two and three flavor neutrino oscillations. The bipartite entanglement is analogous to the entanglement swapping resulting from a beam splitter in quantum optics. For the three neutrino systems various measures of tripartite entanglement are explored. The significant result is that a monogamy inequality in terms of negativity leads to a residual entanglement, implying true tripartite entanglement in the three neutrino system. This leads us to an analogy of the three neutrino state with a gen…
Global conservation laws imply superselection rules (SSR) which restrict the operations that are possible on any given state. Imposing the additional constraint of local operations and classical communication (LOCC) forbids the transfer of quantum systems between spatially separated sites. In the case of particle conservation this imposes a SSR for local particle number. That is, the coherences between subspaces of fixed particle number at each site are not accessible and any state is therefore equivalent to its projection onto these subspaces. The accessible entanglement under the SSR is less…
Based on the theory of Matrix Product States, we give precise statements and complete analytical proofs of the following claim: a large fractionalization in the magnetization or the need of long-range interactions imply large entanglement in the state of a quantum spin chain.
The ability to distribute high-quality entanglement between remote parties is a necessary primitive for many quantum communication applications. A large range of schemes for realizing the long-distance delivery of remote entanglement has been proposed, both for bipartite and multipartite entanglement. For assessing the viability of these schemes, knowledge of the time at which entanglement is delivered is crucial. Specifically, if the communication task requires multiple remote-entangled quantum states and these states are generated at different times by the scheme, the earlier states will nee…
We derive general results relating revivals in the dynamics of quantum many-body systems to the entanglement properties of energy eigenstates. For a D-dimensional lattice system of N sites initialized in a low-entangled and short-range correlated state, our results show that a perfect revival of the state after a time at most poly(N) implies the existence of "quantum many-body scars", whose number grows at least as the square root of N up to poly-logarithmic factors. These are energy eigenstates with energies placed in an equally-spaced ladder and with Rényi entanglement entropy scaling as log…
Many-body states that are invariant under particle relabelling, the permutation symmetric states, occur naturally when the system dynamics is described by symmetric processes or collective spin operators. We derive expressions for the reduced density matrix for arbitrary subsystem decomposition for these states and study properties of permutation symmetric states and their subsystems when the joint system is picked randomly and uniformly. Thus defining a new random matrix ensemble, we find the average linear entropy and von Neumann entropy which implies that random permutation symmetric states…
We study the mixed-state entanglement structure of chaotic quantum many-body systems at late times using the recently developed $\textit{equilibrium approximation}$. A rich entanglement phase diagram emerges when we generalize this technique to evaluate the logarithmic negativity for various universality classes of macroscopically thermalized states. Unlike in the infinite temperature case, when we impose energy constraints at finite temperature, the phase diagrams for the logarithmic negativity and the mutual information become distinct. In particular, we identify a regime where the negativit…
The verification and quantification of experimentally created entanglement by simple measurements, especially between distant particles, is an important basic task in quantum processing. When composite systems are subjected to local measurements the measurement data will exhibit correlations, whether these systems are classical or quantum. Therefore, the observation of correlations in the classical measurement record does not automatically imply the presence of quantum correlations in the system under investigation. In this work we explore the question of when correlations, or other measuremen…
We propose a new single-step scheme for the generation of a GHZ entangled state of three single-electron excitations (flying qubits). We also present a method to get a generalized GHZ-state. Our idea relies upon the most recent progress in the field of on-demand electron sources and mesoscopic Mach-Zehnder interferometry. We also provide the recipe for the unambiguous detection of this GHZ state via correlations measurements at the output, which imply the violation of a Bell-type inequality which is generalized to the case of three particles. We explain how such measurements can be achieved in…
We investigate the entanglement between electronic and vibrational degrees of freedom produced by a vibronic coupling in a molecular system described in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. Entanglement in a pure state of the Hilbert space $\cal{H}$$=$$\cal{H}$$_{el}$$\bigotimes$$\cal{H}$$_{vib}$ is quantified using the von Neumann entropy of the reduced density matrix and the reduced linear entropy. Expressions for these entanglement measures are derived for the $2 \times N_v$ and $3 \times N_v$ cases of the bipartite entanglement, where 2 and 3 are the dimensions of the electronic Hilbert spa…
