We study a device consisting of a dc-SQUID with two sections of its loop acting as two mechanical resonators. An analog of the parametric down-conversion process in quantum optics can be realized with this device. We show that a two-mode squeezed state can be generated for two overdamped mechanical resonators, where the damping constants of the two mechanical resonators are larger than the coupling strengths between the dc-SQUID and the two mechanical resonators. Thus we show that entangled states of these two mechanical resonators can be generated.
An experimental demonstration of a non-classical state of a nanomechanical resonator is still an outstanding task. In this paper we show how the resonator can be cooled and driven into a squeezed state by a bichromatic microwave coupling to a charge qubit. The stationary oscillator state exhibits a reduced noise in one of the quadrature components by a factor of 0.5 - 0.2. These values are obtained for a 100 MHz resonator with a Q-value of 10$^4$ to 10$^5$ and for support temperatures of T $\approx$ 25 mK. We show that the coupling to the charge qubit can also be used to detect the squeezed st…
A scheme is proposed for engineering two-mode squeezed states of two separated cold atomic clouds positioned near the surface of a superconducting stripline resonator. Based on the coherent magnetic coupling between the atomic spins and a stripline resonator mode, the desired two-mode squeezed state can be produced via precisely control on the dynamics of the system. This scheme may be used to realize scalable on-chip quantum networks with cold atoms coupling to stripline resonators.
We consider a two level system with both a transversal and a longitudinal coupling to the electromagnetic field of a resonator. Using a polaron transformation, this Hamiltonian can be mapped onto a Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian with generalized field operators acting on the electromagnetic field in the resonator. In contrast to the usual ladder operators $a$ and $a^\dagger$, these operators exhibit a non-monotous coupling strength with respect to the number $n$ of photons in the resonator. Especially, there are roots of the coupling between qubit and resonator at certain photon numbers $n_0$. We…
We present the first experimental observation of quantum fluctuation spectra in two coupled optical cavities with an injected squeezed vacuum light. The quadrature components of the reflected squeezed vacuum spectra are measured by phase sensitive homodyne detector. The experimental results demonstrate coupled-resonator-induced transparency in the quantum regime, in which electromagnetically-induced-transparency-like characteristic of the absorption and dispersion properties of the coupled optical cavities determines the line-shape of the reflected quantum noise spectra.
A challenge of modern physics is to investigate the quantum behavior of a bulk material object, for instance a mechanical oscillator. We have earlier demonstrated that by coupling a mechanical oscillator to the energy levels of embedded rare-earth ion dopants, it is possible to prepare such a resonator in a low phonon number state. Here, we describe how to extend this protocol in order to prepare momentum- and position squeezed states, and we analyze how the obtainable degree of squeezing depends on the initial conditions and on the coupling of the oscillator to its thermal environment.
We present a scheme for the deterministic generation of entangled photon pairs in a superconducting resonator array. The resonators form a Jaynes-Cummings lattice via the coupling to superconducting qubits, and the Kerr-like nonlinearity arises due to the coupling. We show that entangled photons can be generated on demand by applying spectroscopic techniques and exploiting the nonlinearity and symmetry in the resonators. The scheme is robust against small parameter spreads due to fabrication errors. Our findings can be used as a key element for quantum information processing in superconducting …
We propose a scheme for generating squeezed states in solid state circuits consisting of a nanomechanical resonator (NMR), a superconducting Cooper-pair box (CPB) and a superconducting transmission line resonator (STLR). The nonlinear interaction between the NMR and the STLR can be implemented by setting the external biased flux of the CPB at certain values. The interaction Hamiltonian between the NMR and the STLR is derived by performing Fr$\rm\ddot o$hlich transformation on the total Hamiltonian of the combined system. Just by adiabatically keeping the CPB at the ground state, we get the sta…
A promising venue for hybrid quantum computation involves the strong coupling between impurity spins and superconducting resonators. One strategy to control and enhance this coupling is to prepare the resonator in a non-classical state, such as a squeezed state. In this work, we theoretically study the effects of these states on the coherence properties of the spin. We develop an analytic approach based on the Schrieffer-Wolf transformation that allows us to quantitatively predict the coupling and the dephasing rate of the spin, and we numerically confirm its validity. We find that squeezing c…
A method for producing entangled squeezed states (ESSs) for atomic Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) is proposed by using a BEC with three internal states and two classical laser beams. We show that it is possible to generate two-state and multi-state ESSs under certain circumstances.
We prove that a pure entangled state of two subsystems with equal spin is equivalent to a two-mode spin-squeezed state under local operations except for a set of bipartite states with measure zero, and we provide a counterexample to the generalization of this result to two subsystems of unequal spin.
This theoretical proposal investigates how resonant interactions occurring when a harmonic oscillator is fed with a stream of entangled qubits allow us to stabilize squeezed states of the harmonic oscillator. We show that the properties of the squeezed state stabilized by this engineered reservoir, including the squeezing strength, can be tuned at will through the parameters of the "input" qubits, albeit in tradeoff with the convergence rate. We also discuss the influence of the type of entanglement in the input, from a pairwise case to a more widely distributed case. This paper can be read in…
We study a continuous-variable entangled state composed of two states which are squeezed in two opposite quadratures in phase space. Various entanglement conditions are tested for the entangled squeezed state and we study decoherence models for noise, producing a mixed entangled squeezed state. We briefly describe a probabilistic protocol for entanglement swapping based on the use of this class of entangled states and the main features of a general generation scheme.
We show that the nanoresonator position can be squeezed significantly below the ground state level by measuring the nanoresonator with a quantum point contact or a single-electron transistor and applying a periodic voltage across the detector. The mechanism of squeezing is basically a generalization of quantum nondemolition measurement of an oscillator to the case of continuous measurement by a weakly coupled detector. The quantum feedback is necessary to prevent the ``heating'' due to measurement back-action. We also discuss a procedure of experimental verification of the squeezed state.
We study the dissipative preparation of many-body entangled Gaussian states in bosonic lattice models which could be relevant for quantum technology applications. We assume minimal resources, represented by systems described by particle-conserving quadratic Hamiltonians, with a single localized squeezed reservoir. We show that in this way it is possible to prepare, in the steady state, the wide class of pure states which can be generated by applying a generic passive Gaussian transformation on a set of equally squeezed modes. This includes non-trivial multipartite entangled states such as clus…
In this study, we explore the theoretical application of entangled multi-mode squeezed light for label-free optical super-resolution imaging. By generating massively entangled multi-mode squeezed light through an array of balanced beam splitters, using a single-mode squeezed light input, we create a multi-mode quantum light state with exceptional entanglement and noise suppression below the shot noise level. This significantly reduces imaging measurement errors compared to classical coherent state light imaging when the same number of photons are used on the imaging sample. We demonstrate how …
We study a system of two nanomechanical resonators embedded in a dc SQUID. We show that the inductively-coupled resonators can be treated as two entangled quantum memory elements with states that can be read from, or written on by employing the SQUID as a displacement detector or switching additional external magnetic fields, respectively. We present a scheme to squeeze the even modeof the state of the resonators and consequently reduce the noise in the measurement of the magnetic flux threading the SQUID. Wefinally analyze the effect of dissipation on the squeezing using the quantum master eq…
Photon-number correlation measurements are performed on bright squeezed vacuum states using a standard Bell-test setup, and quantum correlations are observed for conjugate polarization-frequency modes. We further test the entanglement witnesses for these states and demonstrate the violation of the separability criteria, which infers that all the macroscopic Bell states, containing typically $10^6$ photons per pulse, are polarization entangled. The study also reveals the symmetry of macroscopic Bell states with respect to local polarization transformations.
Squeezed state of light is one of the important subjects in quantum optics which is generated by optical nonlinear interactions. In this paper, we especially focus on qubit like entangled squeezed states (ESS's) generated by beam splitters, phase-shifter and cross Kerr nonlinearity. Moreover the Wigner function of two-mode qubit and qutrit like ESS are investigated. We will show that the distances of peaks of Wigner functions for two-mode ESS are entanglement sensitive and can be a witness for entanglement. Like the qubit cases, monogamy inequality is fulfilled for qutrit like ESS. These trend…
A pair of conjugate observables, such as the quadrature amplitudes of harmonic motion, have fundamental fluctuations which are bound by the Heisenberg uncertainty relation. However, in a squeezed quantum state, fluctuations of a quantity can be reduced below the standard quantum limit, at the cost of increased fluctuations of the conjugate variable. Here we prepare a nearly macroscopic moving body, realized as a micromechanical resonator, in a squeezed quantum state. We obtain squeezing of one quadrature amplitude $1.1 \pm 0.4$ dB below the standard quantum limit, thus achieving a long-standin…
We study the exact decoherence dynamics of the entangled squeezed state of two single-mode optical fields interacting with two independent and uncorrelated environments. We analyze in detail the non-Markovian effects on the entanglement evolution of the initially entangled squeezed state for different environmental correlation time scales. We find that the environments have dual actions on the system: backaction and dissipation. In mparticular, when the environmental correlation time scale is comparable to the time scale for significant change in the system, the backaction would counteract the…
It has been shown that entanglement distillation of Gaussian entangled states by means of local photon subtraction can be improved by local Gaussian transformations. Here we show that a similar effect can be expected for the distillation of an asymmetric Gaussian entangled state that is produced by a single squeezed beam. We show that for low initial entanglement, our largely simplified protocol generates more entanglement than previous proposed protocols. Furthermore, we show that the distillation scheme also works efficiently on decohered entangled states as well as with a practical photon s…
Entangled coherent states are shown to emerge, with high fidelity, when mixing coherent and squeezed vacuum states of light on a beam-splitter. These maximally entangled states, where photons bunch at the exit of a beamsplitter, are measured experimentally by Fock-state projections. Entanglement is examined theoretically using a Bell-type nonlocality test and compared with ideal entangled coherent states. We experimentally show nearly perfect similarity with entangled coherent states for an optimal ratio of coherent and squeezed vacuum light. In our scheme, entangled coherent states are genera…
In this work we examine the entanglement of the output signal-idler squeezed vacuum state in the Heisenberg picture as a function of the coupling and internal propagation loss parameters of a microring resonator. Using the log-negativity as a measure of entanglement for a mixed Gaussian state, we examine the competitive effects of the transfer matrix that encodes the classical phenomenological loss, as well as the matrix that that incorporates the coupling and internal propagation loss due to the quantum Langevin noise fields required to preserve unitarity of the composite system,(signal-idler…
Cavity optomechanics provides a unique platform for controlling micromechanical systems by means of optical fields that crosses the classical-quantum boundary to achieve solid foundations for quantum technologies. Currently, optomechanical resonators have become promising candidates for the development of precisely controlled nano-motors, ultrasensitive sensors and robust quantum information processors. For all these applications, a crucial requirement is to cool the mechanical resonators down to their quantum ground states. In this paper, we present a novel cooling scheme to further cool a mi…
We investigate the systematic use of the Schwinger representation, by virtue of which two boson fields are equivalent to an effective spin, for casting multimode squeezed states into multipartite spin entangled states. The motivation for this endeavor is the following established fact: finitely squeezed, two-mode entangled states can be recast into maximally entangled bipartite spin states, irrespective of their level of squeezing (in the lossless case). This work explores the generalization of this interesting property to multipartite entanglement. While we found that the generalization of mu…
Dynamics of entangled states of two independent single-mode cavities in squeezed reservoirs is investigated in the context of matching of the correlations contained in the entangled states to those contained in the squeezed reservoir. We illustrate our considerations by examining the time evolution of entanglement of single and double excitation NOON and EPR states. A comparison is made when each cavity is coupled to own reservoir or both cavities are coupled to a common reservoir. It is shown that the evolution of the initial entanglement and transfer of entanglement from the squeezed reservo…
Many non-classicality indicators are used to measure quantum effects of different systems. Kenfack's and Sadeghi's non-classicality indicators are introduced in terms of the amount of Wigner function's negativities and interferences in phase space quantum mechanics, respectively. They are, effectively, applied for some real distribution functions. In this paper, we compared these non-classicality indicators for the entangled state of photonic number states in the Wigner, Husimi and Rivier representations. It is shown that for a two-level entangled state, Sadeghi's indicator has more benefits w…
We investigate theoretically the temporal evolution of a squeezed state in lossy coupled-cavity systems. We present a general formalism based upon the tight binding approximation and apply this to a two-cavity system as well as to a coupled resonator optical waveguide in a photonic crystal. We derive analytical expressions for the number of photons and the quadrature noise in each cavity as a function of time when the initial excited state is a squeezed state in one of the cavities. We also analytically evaluate the time dependant cross correlation between the photons in different cavities to …
The ability of parameter recently proposed by Sorensen et al. (Nature, 409, 63 (2001)) to characterize entanglement or inseparability is investigated for a system of two two-level atoms interacting with a single mode of radiation field. For comparison we employ the necessary and sufficient criterion of Peres and Horodecki for inseparability of bipartite states. We show that for diagonal atomic density matrix the parameter of Sorensen et al. fails to show entangled nature of collective atomic state whereas same state is inseparable in accordance with Peres-Horodecki criterion.
Using circuit QED, we consider the measurement of a superconducting transmon qubit via a coupled microwave resonator. For ideally dispersive coupling, ringing up the resonator produces coherent states with frequencies matched to transmon energy states. Realistic coupling is not ideally dispersive, however, so transmon-resonator energy levels hybridize into joint eigenstate ladders of the Jaynes-Cummings type. Previous work has shown that ringing up the resonator approximately respects this ladder structure to produce a coherent state in the eigenbasis (a dressed coherent state). We numerically…
We study a one-step approach to the fast generation of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states in a circuit QED system with superconducting flux qubits. The GHZ state can be generated in about 10 ns, which is much shorter than the coherence time of flux qubits and comparable with the time of single-qubit operation. In our proposal, a time-dependent microwave field is applied to a superconducting transmission line resonator (TLR) and displaces the resonator in a controlled manner, thus inducing indirect qubit-qubit coupling without residual entanglement between the qubits and the resonator. Th…
We study the quantum measurement of a cantilever using a parametrically-coupled electromagnetic cavity which is driven at the two sidebands corresponding to the mechanical motion. This scheme, originally due to Braginsky et al. [V. Braginsky, Y. I. Vorontsov, and K. P. Thorne, Science 209, 547 (1980)], allows a back-action free measurement of one quadrature of the cantilever's motion, and hence the possibility of generating a squeezed state. We present a complete quantum theory of this system, and derive simple conditions on when the quantum limit on the added noise can be surpassed. We also s…
We provide a scheme for the generation of controlled entangled number states of Bose-Einstein condensates in multiple wells, and also provide a novel method for the creation of squeezed states without severe adiabatic constraints on barrier heights. The condensate in a multiple well trap can be evolved, starting with a specific initial phase difference between the neighboring wells, to a tunable entangled state or a squeezed state. We propose a general formula for the initial phase difference between the neighboring wells that is valid for any number of wells, even and odd.
The widespread availability of quantum entanglement with photons, in the guise of two-mode squeezed states, can be attributed to the phenomenon of parametric down-conversion. A reinterpretation of this effect with macroscopic mechanical objects can offer a route towards a purely mechanical entanglement and the unique possibility of probing the quantum mechanical nature of our everyday classical world. In spite of this prospect, mechanical two-mode squeezed states have remained elusive due to the inability to recreate the nonlinear interaction at the heart of this phenomenon in the mechanical d…
Conditions to generate high-purity entangled vacuum-evacuated coherent states ($|0>|α>^0 - |-α>^0 |0>$ were studied for two cascade-placed beam splitters, with one squeezed state input and two coherent state inputs whenever a single photon is detected. Controlling the amplitudes and the phases of the beams allows for various amplitudes of the vacuum-evacuated coherent states ($|α>^ 0 = |α> -e^{-|α|^2} |0> $) up to $α= 2.160$ to be manipulated with high-purity.
We examine the properties of an atom laser produced by outcoupling from a Bose-Einstein condensate with squeezed light. We model the multimode dynamics of the output field and show that a significant amount of squeezing can be transfered from an optical mode to a propagating atom laser beam. We use this to demonstrate that two-mode squeezing can be used to produce twin atom laser beams with continuous variable entanglement in amplitude and phase.
Squeezed vacuum states enable optical measurements below the quantum limit and hence are a valuable resource for applications in quantum metrology and also quantum communication. However, most available sources require high pump powers in the milliwatt range and large setups, which hinders real world applications. Furthermore, degenerate operation of such systems presents a challenge. Here, we use a compact crystalline whispering gallery mode resonator made of lithium niobate as a degenerate parametric oscillator. We demonstrate about 1.4 dB noise reduction below the shot noise level for only …
We analyze two-time correlators as the most natural characteristic of a propagating quadrature-squeezed field in the transient regime. The considered system is a parametrically driven resonator with a time-dependent drive. Using a semiclassical approach derived from the input-output theory, we develop a technique for calculation of the two-time correlators, which are directly related to fluctuations of the measured integrated signal. While in the steady state the correlators are determined by three parameters (as for the phase-space ellipse describing a squeezed state), four parameters are nec…
Entanglement plays a crucial role in quantum information protocols, thus the dynamical behavior of entangled states is of a great importance. In this paper we suggest a useful scheme that permits a direct measure of entanglement in a two-qubit cavity system. It is realized in the cavity-QED technology utilizing atoms as fying qubits. To quantify entanglement we use the concurrence. We derive the conditions, which assure that the state remains entangled in spite of the interaction with the reservoir. The phenomenon of sudden death entanglement (ESD) in a bipartite system subjected to squeezed v…
Photonic molecules are composed of two or more optical resonators, arranged such that some of the modes of each resonator are coupled to those of the other. Such structures have been used for emulating the behaviour of two-level systems, lasing, and on-demand optical storage and retrieval. Coupled resonators have also been used for dispersion engineering of integrated devices, enhancing their performance for nonlinear optical applications. Delicate engineering of such integrated nonlinear structures is required for developing scalable sources of non-classical light to be deployed in quantum in…
This paper proposes a scheme for teleporting an arbitrary coherent superposition state of two equal-amplitude and opposite-phase squeezed vacuum states (SVS) via a symmetric 50/50 beam splitter and photodetectors. It is shown that the quantum teleportation scheme has the successful probability 1/4. Maximally entangled SVS's are used as quantum channel for realizing the teleportation scheme. It is shown that if an initial quantum channel is in a pure but not maximally entangled SVS, the quantum channel may be distilled to a maximally entangled SVS through entanglement concentration.
We describe a scheme for entangling mechanical resonators which is efficient also beyond the resolved sideband regime. It employs the radiation pressure force of the squeezed light produced by a degenerate optical parametric oscillator, which acts as a reservoir of quantum correlations (squeezed reservoir), and it is effective when the spectral bandwidth of the reservoir and the fields frequencies are appropriately selected. It allows for the steady state preparation of mechanical resonatrs in entangled EPR states and can be extended to the preparation of many entangled pairs of resonators whi…
The quantum Rabi model accepts analytical solutions in the so-called degenerate qubit and relativistic regimes with discrete and continuous spectrum, in that order. We show that solutions in the laboratory frame are the superposition of even and odd displaced number states, in the former, and infinitely squeezed coherent states, in the latter, of the boson field correlated to the internal states of the qubit. We propose a single parameter model that interpolates between these discrete and continuous spectrum regimes to study the spectral statistics for first and second neighbor differences befo…
We study theoretically a three-mode optomechanical system where two mechanical oscillators are independently coupled to a single cavity mode. By optimized two-tone or four-tone driving of the cavity one can prepare the mechanical oscillators in an entangled two-mode squeezed state, even if they start in a thermal state. The highly-pure, symmetric steady-state achieved allows the optimal fidelity of standard continuous-variable teleportation protocols to be achieved. In contrast to other reservoir engineering approaches to generating mechanical entanglement, only a single reservoir is required …
We propose a method to refine entanglement via swapping from a pair of squeezed vacuum states by performing the Bell measurement of number sum and phase difference. The resultant states are maximally entangled by adjusting the two squeezing parameters to the same value. We then describe the teleportation of number states by using the entangled states prepared in this way.
We provide an explicit construction of entangled states in a noncommutative space with nonclassical states, particularly with the squeezed states. Noncommutative systems are found to be more entangled than the usual quantum mechanical systems. The noncommutative parameter provides an additional degree of freedom in the construction by which one can raise the entanglement of the noncommutative systems to fairly higher values beyond the usual systems. Despite of having classical-like behaviour, coherent states in noncommutative space produce little amount of entanglement and therefore they posse…
Entangled multi-spatial-mode fields have interesting applications in quantum information, such as parallel quantum information protocols, quantum computing, and quantum imaging. We study the use of a nondegenerate four-wave mixing process in rubidium vapor at 795 nm to demonstrate generation of quantum-entangled images. Owing to the lack of an optical resonator cavity, the four-wave mixing scheme generates inherently multi-spatial-mode output fields. We have verified the presence of entanglement between the multi-mode beams by analyzing the amplitude difference and the phase sum noise using a …
The Bloch hyperboloid $H^2$ underlies the quantum geometry of the original $SO(2,1)$ squeezed states. In \cite{Hasebe-2019}, the author utilized a non-compact 2nd Hopf map and a Bloch four-hyperboloid $H^{2,2}$ to explore an $SO(2,3)$ extension of the squeezed states. In the present paper, we further pursue the idea to derive an $SO(4,1)$ version of squeezed vacuum based on the other Bloch four-hyperboloid $H^4$. We show that the obtained $SO(4,1)$ squeezed vacuum is a particular four-mode squeezed state not quite similar to the previous $SO(2,3)$ squeezed vacuum. In view of the Schwinger's fo…
We consider two-mode squeezed states which are parametrized by the squeezing parameter and the phase. We present a scheme for teleporting such entangled states of continuous variables from Alice to Bob. Our protocol is operationalized through the creation of a four-mode entangled state shared by Alice and Bob using linear amplifiers and beam splitters. Teleportation of the entangled state proceeds with local operations and the classical communication of four bits. We compute the fidelity of teleportation and find that it exhibits a trade-off with the magnitude of entanglement of the resultant …
We present a theoretical analysis of methods to synthesize entangled states of two superconducting resonators. These methods use experimentally demonstrated interactions of resonators with artificial atoms, and offer efficient routes to generate nonclassical states. We analyze physical implementations, energy level structure, and the effects of decoherence through detailed dynamical simulations.
In this paper at first we successfully teleport the unknown quantum state which is a superposition of squeezed vacuum state and squeezed one-photon state using the beam splitter in the absence of dissipation. In the continuation, we try to implement the same teleportation protocol, however, in the presence of dissipation effects. To do this task, we use proper entangled channel to reach to perfect teleportation under the in uence of decoherence. Finally, we consider another superposition of two squeezed vacuum states with separation in phase and teleport it with a different appropriate entangl…
In this paper we present a study of the quantum phase estimation problem employing continuous-variable, entangled squeezed coherent (quasi-Bell) states as probe states. We show that their inherent squeezing and entanglement properties might bring advantages, increasing the precision of phase estimation compared to protocols which employ other continuous variable states e.g., two-mode, entangled coherent states or single-mode, squeezed states. We also analyze the phase estimation process considering: i) a linear (unitary) perturbation, and ii) dissipation, and conclude that the use of entangled…
We demonstrate time-bin entanglement generation in telecom wavelength using a 7 μm radius Si micro-ring resonator pumped by a continuous wave laser. The resonator structure can enhance spontaneous four wave mixing, leading to a photon pair generation rate of about 90-100 Hz with a laser pump power of as low as -3.92 dBm (0.41 mW). We succeed in observing time-bin entanglement with the visibility over 92%. Moreover, wavelength-tunability of the entangled photon pair is demonstrated by changing the operation temperature.
Entangled states play a crucial role in quantum information protocols, thus the dynamical behavior of entanglement is of a great importance. In this paper we consider a two-mode squeezed vacuum state coupled to one thermal reservoir as a model of an entangled state embedded in an environment. As a criterion for entanglement we use a continuous-variable equivalent of the Peres-Horodecki criterion, namely the Simon criterion. To quantify entanglement we use the logarithmic negativity. We derive a condition, which assures that the state remains entangled in spite of the interaction with the reser…
We show experimentally that a dc-biased Josephson junction in series with two microwave resonators emits entangled beams of microwaves leaking out of the resonators. In the absence of a stationary phase reference for characterizing the entanglement of the outgoing beams, we measure second-order coherence functions for proving entanglement up to an emission rate of 2.5 billion photon pairs per second. The experimental results are found in quantitative agreement with theory, proving that the low frequency noise of the dc bias is the main limitation for the coherence time of the entangled beams. …
