We present a derivation and numerous applications of a compact explicit formula for the average fidelity of a quantum operation on a finite dimensional quantum system. The formula can be applied to averages over particularly relevant subspaces; it is easily generalized to multi-component systems, and as a special result, we show that when the same completely positive trace-preserving map is applied to a large number of qubits with one-bit fidelity F close to unity, the average fidelity of the operation on the full K-bit register scales as $F^{3K/2}$.
A simple formula for the average gate fidelity of a quantum dynamical operation
Lett. A 294,258(2002)]。 Rev.
Fidelity of remote state preparation can be enhanced by local operation
Quantum information processing is in real systems often limited by dissipation, stemming from remaining uncontrolled interaction with microscopic degrees of freedom. Given recent experimental progress, we consider weak dissipation, resulting in a small error probability per operation. Here, we find a simple formula for the fidelity reduction of any desired quantum operation. Interestingly, this reduction is independent of the specific operation; it depends only on the operation time and the dissipation. Using our formula, we investigate the situation where dissipation in different parts of the…
Most implementations of quantum gate operations rely on external control fields to drive the evolution of the quantum system. Generating these control fields requires significant efforts to design the suitable control Hamiltonians. Furthermore, any error in the control fields reduces the fidelity of the implemented control operation with respect to the ideal target operation. Achieving sufficiently fast gate operations at low error rates remains therefore a huge challenge. In this work, we present a novel approach to overcome this challenge by eliminating, for specific gate operations, the tim…
We propose a method to design pulses in a resonant three-level system to enhance the robustness of non-adiabatic geometric gate operations. By optimizing the shape of the pulse envelope, we show that the gate operations are more robust against frequency detuning than they are with Gaussian and square pulses. Our method provides a way to design pulses that can be employed in a system where robustness against frequency variations or inhomogeneous broadening is required, and may be extended to ensure robustness against other physical imperfections such as intensity fluctuations and random noises.
For two symmetric quantum states one may be interested in maximizing the overlap under local operations applied to one of them. The question arises whether the maximal overlap can be obtained by applying the same local operation to each party. We show that for two symmetric multiqubit states and local unitary transformations this is the case; the maximal overlap can be reached by applying the same unitary matrix everywhere. For local invertible operations (stochastic local operations assisted by classical communication equivalence), however, we present counterexamples, demonstrating that consi…
We propose a measure of nonclassical correlation $N_{\mathcal F}^{\mathcal G}$ in terms of local Gaussian unitary operations based on square of the fidelity $\mathcal F$ for bipartite continuous-variable systems. This quantity is easier to calculate or estimate and is a remedy for the local ancilla problem associated with the geometric measurement-induced nonlocality. A simple computation formula of $N_{\mathcal F}^{\mathcal G}$ for any $(1+1)$-mode Gaussian states is presented and an estimation of $N_{\mathcal F}^{\mathcal G}$ for any $(n+m)$-mode Gaussian states is given. For any $(1+1)$-mod…
Understanding how to tailor quantum dynamics to achieve a desired evolution is a crucial problem in almost all quantum technologies. We present a very general method for designing high-efficiency control sequences that are always fully compatible with experimental constraints on available interactions and their tunability. Our approach reduces in the end to finding control fields by solving a set of time-independent linear equations. We illustrate our method by applying it to a number of physically-relevant problems: the strong-driving limit of a two-level system, fast squeezing in a parametri…
Randomized benchmarking (RB) protocols have become an essential tool for providing a meaningful partial characterization of experimental quantum operations. While the RB decay rate is known to enable estimates of the average fidelity of those operations under gate-independent Markovian noise, under gate-dependent noise this rate is more difficult to interpret rigorously. In this paper, we prove that single-qubit RB decay parameter $p$ coincides with the decay parameter of the gate-set circuit fidelity, a novel figure of merit which characterizes the expected average fidelity over arbitrary cir…
Superconducting qubits provide a promising path toward building large-scale quantum computers. The simple and robust transmon qubit has been the leading platform, achieving multiple milestones. However, fault-tolerant quantum computing calls for qubit operations at error rates significantly lower than those exhibited in the state of the art. Consequently, alternative superconducting qubits with better error protection have attracted increasing interest. Among them, fluxonium is a particularly promising candidate, featuring large anharmonicity and long coherence times. Here, we engineer a fluxo…
Efficient implementation of quantum algorithms requires single- or multi-qubit gates with high fidelity. In this report, we report that the fidelity of single-qubit gate operations on open quantum systems has a maximum value corresponding to an optimum value of the drive-amplitude in the presence of drive-induced decoherence. To show this, we use a previously reported fluctuation-regulated quantum master equation [Phys. Rev. A 97, 063837 (2018)]. The fidelity is found to be a function of the drive-induced dissipative terms as well as the relaxation terms arising from the qubit-environment coup…
Silicon spin qubits satisfy the necessary criteria for quantum information processing. However, a demonstration of high fidelity state preparation and readout combined with high fidelity single- and two-qubit gates, all of which must be present for quantum error correction, has been lacking. We use a two qubit Si/SiGe quantum processor to demonstrate state preparation and readout with fidelity over 97%, combined with both single- and two-qubit control fidelities exceeding 99%. The operation of the quantum processor is quantitatively characterized using gate set tomography and randomized benchm…

We present a new and simplified two-qubit randomized benchmarking procedure that operates only in the symmetric subspace of a pair of qubits and is well suited for benchmarking trapped-ion systems. By performing benchmarking only in the symmetric subspace, we drastically reduce the experimental complexity, number of gates required, and run time. The protocol is demonstrated on trapped ions using collective single-qubit rotations and the Molmer-Sorenson (MS) interaction to estimate an entangling gate error of $2(1) \times 10^{-3}$. We analyze the expected errors in the MS gate and find that pop…
Quantum computers based on silicon are promising candidates for long term universal quantum computation due to the long coherence times of electron and nuclear spin states. Furthermore, the continuous progress of micro- and nano- electronics, also related to the scaling of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) systems, makes possible to control the displacement of single dopants thus suggesting their exploitation as qubit holders. Flip-flop qubit is a donor based qubit (DQ) where interactions between qubits are achievable for distance up to several hundred nanometers. In this work, a linear array of…
In our work, we compare three teleportation protocols: the original protocol, the photon subtraction protocol, and the protocol with a cubic phase gate. We evaluate the fidelity of each protocol using the example of teleportation of the squeezed state and the Schrodinger's cat state. We show that, under equal conditions, the teleportation scheme with a cubic phase gate achieves significantly higher fidelity than the other protocols considered.
Experimental implementation of high-fidelity unconventional geometric quantum gates using NMR interferometer
Rev. Lett.
