Based on the idea of measuring the factorizability of a given density matrix, we propose a pairwise analysis strategy for quantifying and understanding multipartite entanglement. The methodology proves very effective as it immediately guarantees, in addition to the usual entanglement properties, additivity and strong super additivity. We give a specific set of quantities that fulfill the protocol and which, according to our numerical calculations, make the entanglement measure an LOCC non-increasing function. The strategy allows a redefinition of the structural concept of global entanglement.
We give the explicit expressions of the pairwise quantum correlations present in superpositions of multipartite coherent states. A special attention is devoted to the evaluation of the geometric quantum discord. The dynamics of quantum correlations under a dephasing channel is analyzed. A comparison of geometric measure of quantum discord with that of concurrence shows that quantum discord in multipartite coherent states is more resilient to dissipative environments than is quantum entanglement. To illustrate our results, we consider some special superpositions of Weyl-Heisenberg, SU(2) and SU…
The nonlocal correlations of multipartite entangled states can be reproduced by a classical model if sufficiently many parties join together or if sufficiently many parties broadcast their measurement inputs. The maximal number m of groups and the minimal number k of broadcasting parties that allow for the reproduction of a given set of correlations quantify their multipartite nonlocal content. We show how upper-bounds on m and lower-bounds on k can be computed from the violation of the Mermin-Svetlichny inequalities. While n-partite GHZ states violate these inequalities maximally, we find tha…

The entanglement quantification and classification of multipartite quantum states are two important research fields in quantum information. In this work, we study the entanglement of arbitrary-dimensional multipartite pure states by looking at the averaged partial entropies of various bipartite partitions of the system, namely, the so-called Manhattan distance ($l_1$ norm) of averaged partial entropies (MAPE), and it is proved to be an entanglement measure for pure states. We connected the MAPE with the coefficient matrices, which are important tools in entanglement classification and reexpres…
The characterization of quantum correlations is crucial to the development of new quantum technologies and to understand how dramatically quantum theory departs from classical physics. Here we systematically study single- and multiparticle interference patterns produced by general two- and three-qubit systems. From this we establish on phenomenological grounds a new type of quantum correlation for these systems, which we name quantum interference, deriving some quantifiers that are given explicitly in terms of the density matrix elements of the complete system. By using these quantifiers, we s…
We propose two semi-device-independent approaches that are able to quantify unknown multipartite quantum entanglement experimentally, where the only information that has to be known beforehand is quantum dimension, and the concept that plays a key role is nondegenerate Bell inequalities. Specifically, using the nondegeneracy of multipartite Bell inequalities, we obtain useful information on the purity of target quantum state. Combined with an estimate of the maximal overlap between the target state and pure product states and a continuous property of the geometric measure of entanglement we sh…
The simulation of quantum correlations with alternative nonlocal resources, such as classical communication, gives a natural way to quantify their nonlocality. While multipartite nonlocal correlations appear to be useful resources, very little is known on how to simulate multipartite quantum correlations. We present the first known protocol that reproduces 3-partite GHZ correlations with bounded communication: 3 bits in total turn out to be sufficient to simulate all equatorial Von Neumann measurements on the 3-partite GHZ state.
Multipartite entanglement is an essential resource for quantum communication, quantum computing, quantum sensing, and quantum networks. The utility of a quantum state, $|ψ\rangle$, for these applications is often directly related to the degree or type of entanglement present in $|ψ\rangle$. Therefore, efficiently quantifying and characterizing multipartite entanglement is of paramount importance. In this work, we introduce a family of multipartite entanglement measures, called Concentratable Entanglements. Several well-known entanglement measures are recovered as special cases of our family of…
A key lesson of the decoherence program is that information flowing out from an open system is stored in the quantum state of the surroundings. Simultaneously, quantum measurement theory shows that the evolution of any open system when its environment is measured is nonlinear and leads to pure states conditioned on the measurement record. Here we report the discovery of a fundamental relation between measurement and entanglement which is characteristic of this scenario. It takes the form of a scaling law between the amount of entanglement in the conditional state of the system and the probabil…
The mutual information has been successfully used as a measure of correlation strength between quantum systems, especially for bipartite systems. Here we examine the use of this measure for multipartite quantum systems. For system of qubits we find that the difference between `classical' and `quantum' regimes of correlation strength amounts to just 1 bit of information, at most. We show that the information content of a correlation can be expanded into correlations between pairwise components and demonstrate that in terms of this information-based measure of correlation the GHZ states are the …

The generation of (Bell-)nonlocal correlations, i.e., correlations leading to the violation of a Bell-like inequality, requires the usage of a nonlocal resource, such as an entangled state. When given a correlation (a collection of conditional probability distributions) from an experiment or from a theory, it is desirable to determine the extent to which the participating parties would need to collaborate nonlocally for its (re)production. Here, we propose to achieve this via the minimal group size (MGS) of the resource, i.e., the smallest number of parties that need to share a given type of n…
In this paper, we investigate a genuine multipartite entanglement measure based on the geometric method. This measure arrives at the maximal value for the absolutely maximally entangled states and has desirable properties for quantifying the genuine multipartite entanglement. We present a lower bound of the genuine multipartite entanglement measure. At last, we present some examples to show that the genuine entanglement measure is with distinct entanglement ordering from other measures, and we also present the advantages of the measure proposed here with other measures.
We develop a protocol based on 2M pairwise interacting qubits, which through Quantum Zeno Effect controls the entanglement distribution of the system. We also show that if the coupling constants are different the QZE may be used to achieve perfect entanglement swap.
We propose an information-theoretic framework to quantify multipartite correlations in classical and quantum systems, answering questions such as: what is the amount of seven-partite correlations in a given state of ten particles? We identify measures of genuine multipartite correlations, i.e. statistical dependencies which cannot be ascribed to bipartite correlations, satisfying a set of desirable properties. Inspired by ideas developed in complexity science, we then introduce the concept of weaving to classify states which display different correlation patterns, but cannot be distinguished b…
A general mathematical framework is presented to describe local equivalence classes of multipartite quantum states under the action of local unitary and local filtering operations. This yields multipartite generalizations of the singular value decomposition. The analysis naturally leads to the introduction of entanglement measures quantifying the multipartite entanglement (as generalizations of the concurrence and the 3-tangle), and the optimal local filtering operations maximizing these entanglement monotones are obtained. Moreover a natural extension of the definition of GHZ-states to e.g. $…
We demonstrate the deterministic generation of multipartite entanglement based on scalable methods. Four qubits are encoded in $^{40}$Ca$^+$, stored in a micro-structured segmented Paul trap. These qubits are sequentially entangled by laser-driven pairwise gate operations. Between these, the qubit register is dynamically reconfigured via ion shuttling operations, where ion crystals are separated and merged, and ions are moved in and out of a fixed laser interaction zone. A sequence consisting of three pairwise entangling gates yields a four-ion GHZ state $\vertψ\rangle=\tfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\left…
In this work we propose the geometric mean of bipartite concurrences as a genuine multipartite entanglement measure. This measure achieves the maximum value for absolutely maximally entangled states and has desirable properties for quantifying potential quantum resources. The simplicity and symmetry in the definition facilitates its computation for various multipartite entangled states including the GHZ states and the $W$ states. With explicit examples we show that our measure results in distinct entanglement orderings from other measures, and can detect differences in certain types of genuine…

We derive a framework for quantifying entanglement in multipartite and high dimensional systems using only correlations in two unbiased bases. We furthermore develop such bounds in cases where the second basis is not characterized beyond being unbiased, thus enabling entanglement quantification with minimal assumptions. Furthermore, we show that it is feasible to experimentally implement our method with readily available equipment and even conservative estimates of physical parameters.
Entanglement of high-dimensional and multipartite quantum systems offer promising perspectives in quantum information processing. However, the characterization and measure of such kind of entanglement is of great challenge. Here we consider the overlaps between the maximal quantum mean values and the classical bound of the CHSH inequalities for pairwise-qubit states in two-dimensional subspaces. We show that the concurrence of a pure state in any high-dimensional multipartite system can be equivalently represented by these overlaps. Here we consider the projections of an arbitrary high-dimensi…
The key ingredient of the approach, presented in this paper, is the factorization property of $SU(2)$ coherent states upon splitting or decay of a quantum spin system. In this picture, the even and odd spin coherent states are viewed as comprising two, three or more spin subsystems. From this perspective, we investigate the multipartite quantum correlations defined as the sum of the correlations of all possible bi-partitions. The pairwise quantum correlations are quantified by entanglement of formation and quantum discord. A special attention is devoted to tripartite splitting schemes. We expl…

Within the framework of constructions for quantifying entanglement, we build a natural scenario for the assembly of multipartite entanglement measures based on Hopf bundle-like mappings obtained through Clifford algebra representations. Then, given the non-factorizability of an arbitrary two-qubit density matrix, we give an alternate quantity that allows the construction of two types of entanglement measures based on their arithmetical and geometrical averages over all pairs of qubits in a register of size N, and thus fully characterize its degree and type of entanglement. We find that such an…
We review and generalize the recently introduced framework of entropy vectors for detecting and quantifying genuine multipartite entanglement in high dimensional multicomponent quantum systems. We show that these ideas can be extended to discriminate among other forms of multipartite entanglement. In particular, we develop methods to test whether density matrices are: decomposable, i.\ e.\ separable with respect to certain given partitions of the subsystems; $k$-separable, i.\ e.\ separable with respect to $k$ partitions of the subsystems; $k$-partite entangled, i.e. there is entanglement amon…
In this brief report, we prove that robustness of coherence (ROC), in contrast to many popular quantitative measures of quantum coherence derived from the resource theoretic framework of coherence, may be sub-additive for a specific class of multipartite quantum states. We investigate how the sub-additivity is affected by admixture with other classes of states for which ROC is super-additive. We show that pairs of quantum states may have different orderings with respect to relative entropy of coherence, $l_{1}$-norm of coherence and ROC and numerically study the difference in ordering for cohe…
Quantifying genuine entanglement is a crucial task in quantum information theory. In this work, we give an approach of constituting genuine $m$-partite entanglement measures from any bipartite entanglement and any $k$-partite entanglement measure, $3\leq k<m$. In addition, as a complement to the three-qubit concurrence triangle proposed in [Phys. Rev. Lett., 127, 040403], we show that the triangle relation is also valid for any continuous entanglement measure and system with any dimension. We also discuss the tetrahedron structure for the four-partite system via the triangle relation associated…
Experimentally quantifying entanglement and coherence are extremely important for quantum resource theory. However, because the quantum state tomography requires exponentially growing measurements with the number of qubits, it is hard to quantify entanglement and coherence based on the full information of the experimentally realized multipartite states. Fortunately, other methods have been found to directly measure the fidelity of experimental states without quantum state tomography. Here we present a fidelity-based method to derive experimentally accessible lower bounds for measures of genuin…

Quantum entanglement is a quantum mechanical phenomenon where the quantum state of a many-body system with many degrees of freedom cannot be described independently of the state of each body with a given degree of freedom, no matter how far apart in space each body is. Entanglement is not only considered a resource in quantum information but also believed to affect complex condensed matter systems. Detecting and quantifying multi-particle entanglement in a many-body system is thus of fundamental significance for both quantum information science and condensed matter physics. Here, we detect and…
We propose a new approach to the problem of defining the degree of entanglement between two particles in a pure state with Hilbert spaces of arbitrary finite dimensions. The central idea is that entanglement gives rise to correlations between the particles that do not occur in separable states. We individuate the contributions of these correlations to the joint and the conditional probabilities of local measurements outcomes. We use these probabilities to define the measure of entanglement. Our measure turns out to be proportional to the so-called 2-entropy and therefore satisfies the properti…
We shed new light on entanglement measures in multipartite quantum systems by taking a computational-complexity approach toward quantifying quantum entanglement with two familiar notions--approximability and distinguishability. Built upon the formal treatment of partial separability, we measure the complexity of an entangled quantum state by determining (i) how hard to approximate it from a fixed classical state and (ii) how hard to distinguish it from all partially separable states. We further consider the Kolmogorovian-style descriptive complexity of approximation and distinction of partial …
The Schmidt coefficients capture all entanglement properties of a pure bipartite state and therefore determine its usefulness for quantum information processing. While the quantification of the corresponding properties in mixed states is important both from a theoretical and a practical point of view, it is considerably more difficult, and methods beyond estimates for the concurrence are elusive. In particular this holds for a quantitative assessment of the most valuable resource, the maximum possible Schmidt number of an arbitrary mixed state. We derive a framework for lower bounding the appr…
We present two linear optical schemes using nonideal photodetectors to demonstrate inseparability of W-type N-partite entangled states containing only a single photon. First, we show that the pairwise entanglement of arbitrary two modes chosen from N optical modes can be detected using the method proposed by Nha and Kim [Phys. Rev. A 74, 012317 (2006)], thereby suggesting the full inseparability among N parties. In particular, this scheme is found to succeed for any nonzero quantum efficiency of photodetectors. Second, we consider a quantum teleportation network using linear optics without aux…
Quantum entanglement plays a crucial role in quantum information processing tasks and quantum mechanics, hence quantifying unknown entanglement is a fundamental task. However, this is also challenging, as entanglement cannot be measured by any observables directly. In this paper, we train neural networks to quantify unknown entanglement, where the input features of neural networks are the outcome statistics data produced by locally measuring target quantum states, and the training labels are well-chosen quantities. For bipartite quantum states, this quantity is coherent information, which is a…

We study the multipartite correlations of the multi-atom dark states, which are characterized by the atomic squeezing beyond the pairwise entanglement. It is shown that, in the photon storage process with atomic ensemble via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) mechanism, the atomic squeezing and the pairwise entanglement can be created by adiabatically manipulating the Rabi frequency of the classical light field on the atomic ensemble. We also consider the sudden death for the atomic squeezing and the pairwise entanglement under various decoherence channels. An optimal time for gene…
Despite intensive research, the physical origin of the speed-up offered by quantum algorithms remains mysterious. No general physical quantity, like, for instance, entanglement, can be singled out as the essential useful resource. Here we report a close connection between the trace speed and the quantum speed-up in Grover's search algorithm implemented with pure and pseudo-pure states. For a noiseless algorithm, we find a one-to-one correspondence between the quantum speed-up and the polarization of the pseudo-pure state, which can be connected to a wide class of quantum statistical speeds. Fo…
Recently, several hybrid approaches to quantum information emerged which utilize both continuous- and discrete-variable methods and resources at the same time. In this work, we investigate the bipartite hybrid entanglement between a finite-dimensional, discrete-variable quantum system and an infinite-dimensional, continuous-variable quantum system. A classification scheme is presented leading to a distinction between pure hybrid entangled states, mixed hybrid entangled states (those effectively supported by an overall finite-dimensional Hilbert space), and so-called truly hybrid entangled stat…
We address the question of quantifying entanglement in pure graph states. Evaluation of multipartite entanglement measures is extremely hard for most pure quantum states. In this paper we demonstrate how solving one problem in graph theory, namely the identification of maximum independent set, allows us to evaluate three multipartite entanglement measures for pure graph states. We construct the minimal linear decomposition into product states for a large group of pure graph states, allowing us to evaluate the Schmidt measure. Furthermore we show that computation of distance-like measures such …
