We study the quantum forces that act between two nearby conductors due to electronic tunneling. We derive an expression for these forces by calculating the flux of momentum arising from the overlap of evanescent electronic fields. Our result is written in terms of the electronic reflection amplitudes of the conductors and it has the same structure as Lifshitz's formula for the electromagnetically mediated Casimir forces. We evaluate the tunneling force between two semiinfinite conductors and between two thin films separated by an insulating gap. We discuss some applications of our results.
Twisted bilayered graphenes at magic angles are systems housing long ranged periodicity of Moiré pattern together with short ranged periodicity associated with the individual graphenes. Such materials are a fertile ground for novel states largely driven by electronic correlations. Here we find that the ubiquitous Casimir force can serve as a platform for macroscopic manifestations of the quantum effects stemming from the magic angle bilayered graphenes properties and their phases determined by electronic correlations. By utilizing comprehensive calculations for the electronic and optical respo…
Thermal noise limitations to force measurements with torsion pendulums: Applications to the measurement of the Casimir force and its thermal correction
Visualizing and controlling electron dynamics over femtosecond timescale play a key role in the design of next-generation electronic devices. Using simulations, we demonstrate the electronic oscillation inside the naphthalene molecule can be tracked by means of the tuning of delay time between two identical femtosecond laser pulses. Both the frequency and decay time of the oscillation are detected by the tunneling charge through the junction of scanning tunneling microscopy. And the tunneling charge is sensitive to the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) for few-cycle long optical pulses. While this …

\exclude{These new terms give an extra contribution to the Casimir pressure, yet to be measured.}我们认为,如果同一系统被认为是在一个小的外部时间依赖的E\&M场的背景下,那么真正的物理光子将从真空中发射出来,类似于动态卡西米尔效应(DCE)的光子辐射从真空中由于时间依赖的边界条件。
