Perfect State Transfer: Beyond Nearest-Neighbor Couplings

In this paper we build on the ideas presented in previous works for perfectly transferring a quantum state between opposite ends of a spin chain using a fixed Hamiltonian. While all previous studies have concentrated on nearest-neighbor couplings, we demonstrate how to incorporate additional terms in the Hamiltonian by solving an Inverse Eigenvalue Problem. We also explore issues relating to the choice of the eigenvalue spectrum of the Hamiltonian, such as the tolerance to errors and the rate of information transfer.

Analytic next-to-nearest neighbour XX models with perfect state transfer and fractional revival

Certain non-uniformly coupled spin chains can exhibit perfect transfer of quantum states from end to end. Motivated by recent experimental implementations, we extend the simplest such chain to next-to-nearest neighbour (NNN) couplings. It is shown analytically that perfect state transfer can be maintained under the extension and that end-to-end entanglement generation (fractional revival) can occur.

The entanglement of Heisenberg chain with next-nearest-neighbor interaction

The features of the concurrences of the nearest-neighbor and the next-nearest-neighbor sites for one-dimensional Heisenberg model with the next-nearest-neighbor interaction are studied both at the ground state and finite temperatures respectively. Both concurrences are found to exhibit different behaviors at the ground state, which is clarified from the point of view of the correlation function. The threshold temperature with respective to different number of sites and the thermal concurrences of the system up to 12 sites are studied numerically.

Nearest-neighbor coupling asymmetry in the generation of cluster states

We demonstrate that charge-qubit cluster state generation by capacitive coupling is anisotropic. Specifically, horizontal vs vertical nearest-neighbor inter-qubit coupling differs in a rectangular lattice. We show how to ameliorate this anisotropy by applying potential biases to the array of double dots.

Shor's algorithm on a nearest-neighbor machine

We give a new ``nested adds'' circuit for implementing Shor's algorithm in linear width and quadratic depth on a nearest-neighbor machine. Our circuit combines Draper's transform adder with approximation ideas of Zalka. The transform adder requires small controlled rotations. We also give another version, with slightly larger depth, using only reversible classical gates. We do not know which version will ultimately be cheaper to implement.

Optical Kagome lattice for ultra-cold atoms with nearest neighbor interactions

We propose a scheme to implement an optical Kagome lattice for ultra-cold atoms with controllable s-wave interactions between nearest neighbor sites and a gauge potential. The atoms occupy three different internal atomic levels with electromagnetically-induced coupling between the levels. We show that by appropriately shifting the triangular lattice potentials, experienced by atoms in different levels, the Kagome lattice can be realized using only two standing waves, generating a highly frustrated quantum system for the atoms.
