Shannon information entropies in position and momentum spaces and their sum are calculated as functions of Z (Z=2-54) in atoms. Roothaan-Hartree-Fock electron wave functions are used. The universal property S=a+b lnZ is verified. In addition, we calculate the Kullback-Leibler relative entropy, the Jensen-Shannon divergence, Onicescu's information energy and a complexity measure recently proposed. Shell effects at closed shells atoms are observed. The complexity measure shows local minima at the closed shells atoms indicating that for the above atoms complexity decreases with respect to neighboring atoms. It is seen that complexity fluctuates around an average value, indicating that the atom cannot grow in complexity as Z increases. Onicescu's information energy is correlated with the ionization potential. Kullback distance and Jensen-Shannon distance are employed to compare Roothaan-Hartree-Fock density distributions with other densities of previous works.
In this paper we consider a system of two two-level atoms interacting with a single-mode quantized electromagnetic field in a lossless resonant cavity via $l$-photon-transition mechanism. The field and the atoms are initially prepared in the coherent state and the excited atomic states, respectively. For this system we investigate the entropy squeezing, the atomic variances, the von Neumann entropy and the atomic inversions for the single-atom case. We show that the more the number of the parties in the system the less the amounts of the nonclassical effects exhibited in the entropy squeezing.…
The position- and momentum-space information entropies of the electron distributions of atomic clusters are calculated using a Woods-Saxon single particle potential. The same entropies are also calculated for nuclear distributions according to the Skyrme parametrization of the nuclear mean field. It turns out that a similar functional form S=a+b ln N for the entropy as function of the number of particles N holds approximately for atoms, nuclei and atomic clusters. It is conjectured that this is a universal property of a many-fermion system in a mean field. It is also seen that there is an anal…
The dynamics of an entangled atomic system in a partial interaction with entangled cavity fields, characterizing an entanglement swapping, have been studied through the use of Von Neuman entropy. We consider the interaction via two-photon process given by a full microscopical Hamiltonian approach. The explicit expression of the entropy is obtained, wherewith we estimated the largest period. The numerical simulation of the entropy of the entangled atomic and cavity systems shows that its time evolution presents multi-periodicity. The effects of detuning parameter on the period and the amplitude…
We propose the Wigner separability entropy as a measure of complexity of a quantum state. This quantity measures the number of terms that effectively contribute to the Schmidt decomposition of the Wigner function with respect to a chosen phase space decomposition. We prove that the Wigner separability entropy is equal to the operator space entanglement entropy, measuring entanglement in the space of operators, and, for pure states, to twice the entropy of entanglement. The quantum to classical correspondence between the Wigner separability entropy and the separability entropy of the classical …
We study the atom-field interaction when the field is in a mixture of coherent states. We show that in this case it is possible to calculate analytically the field entropy for times of the order of twice the collapse time. Such analytical results are done with the help of numerical analysis.
We propose a scheme employing quantum-reservoir engineering to controllably entangle the internal states of two atoms trapped in a high finesse optical cavity. Using laser and cavity fields to drive two separate Raman transitions between metastable atomic ground states, a system is realized corresponding to a pair of two-state atoms coupled collectively to a squeezed reservoir. Phase-sensitive reservoir correlations lead to entanglement between the atoms, and, via local unitary transformations and adjustment of the degree and purity of squeezing, one can prepare entangled mixed states with any…
The position and momentum spreading of the electron distribution of the two-dimensional confined hydrogenic atom, which is a basic prototype of the general multidimensional confined quantum systems, is numerically studied in terms of the confinement radius for the 1s, 2s, 2p and 3d quantum states by means of the main entropy and complexity information-theoretic measures. First, the Shannon entropy and the Fisher information as well as the associated uncertainty relations are computed and discussed. Then, the Fisher-Shannon, LMC and LMC-Rényi complexity measures are examined and mutually compar…
Entropic measures provide analytic tools to help us understand correlation in quantum systems. In our previous work, we calculated linear entropy and von Neumann entropy as entanglement measures for the ground state and lower lying excited states in helium-like systems. In this work, we adopt another entropic measure, Shannon entropy, to probe the nature of correlation effects. Besides the results of the Shannon entropy in coordinate space for the singlet ground states of helium-like systems including positronium negative ion, hydrogen negative ion, helium atom, and lithium positive ion, we al…
We develop a theory of classical complexity. We study the relations between classical complexity and entropy, and conjecture that in an isolated system, classical absolute complexity always tends to grow, until it reaches its maximum. We calculate some exact closed-form expressions of the growth of average classical complexity over time in some concrete models, and gain further insights of both classical and quantum complexity by using the theory of Markov chains.
The spinor condensate with spin states degenerated in the ground spin-space provides a unique platform for investigating the edge of quantum mechanics and statistical physics. We study the evolution of the condensate under the scattering of a coherent atom beam. The time-dependent magnetization, entanglement entropy, thermal entropy and the entropy production rate are calculated. A novel spontaneous symmetry breaking is found during the evolution, It is shown that the stationary spin distribution can be controlled by the incoming coherent spin state of the incident atom beam, therefore the ato…
We prove a general lower bound of quantum decision tree complexity in terms of some entropy notion. We regard the computation as a communication process in which the oracle and the computer exchange several rounds of messages, each round consisting of O(log(n)) bits. Let E(f) be the Shannon entropy of the random variable f(X), where X is uniformly random in f's domain. Our main result is that it takes Ω(E(f)) queries to compute any \emph{total} function f. It is interesting to contrast this bound with the Ω(E(f)/log(n)) bound, which is tight for \emph{partial} functions. Our approach is the po…
We present an information geometric characterization of quantum driving schemes specified by su(2;C) time-dependent Hamiltonians in terms of both complexity and efficiency concepts. By employing a minimum action principle, the optimum path connecting initial and final states on the manifold in finite-time is the geodesic path between the two states. In particular, the total entropy production that occurs during the transfer is minimized along these optimum paths. For each optimum path that emerges from the given quantum driving scheme, we evaluate the so-called information geometric complexity…
In this paper, we study the interaction between the two-level atom and a bimodal cavity field, namely, two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model when the atom and the modes are initially in the atomic superposition state and two-mode squeezed vacuum state, respectively. For this system we investigate the atomic inversion, linear entropy and atomic Wehrl entropy. We show that there is a connection between all these quantities. Also we prove that the atomic Wehrl entropy exhibits behaviors similar to those of the linear entropy and the von Neumann entropy. Moreover, we show that the bipartite exhibits peri…
The dynamics of an atom on the Jaynes-Cummings model has been studied by an atomic inversion, von Neumann entropy and so on. In this letter, we will treat the Jaynes-Cummings model as a problem in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and apply quantum mutual entropy to study the irreversible dynamics of a state for the atom on this model.
We present a simple and efficient scheme to reduce atom-number fluctuations in optical lattices. The interaction-energy difference for atoms in different vibrational states is used to remove excess atomic occupation. The remaining vacant sites are then filled with atoms by merging adjacent wells, for which we implement a protocol that circumvents the constraints of unitarity. The preparation of large regions with precisely one atom per lattice site is discussed for both bosons and fermions. The resulting low-entropy Mott-insulating states may serve as high-fidelity register states for quantum …
In this paper the interaction between a two-level atom and a single-mode field in the $k$-photon Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM) in the presence of Stark shift and Kerr medium is studied. All terms in the respected Hamiltonian, such as the single-mode field, its interaction with the atom, the contribution of the Stark shift and the Kerr medium effects are considered to be $f$-deformed. In particular, the effect of the initial state of radiation field on the dynamical evolution of some physical properties such as atomic inversion and entropy squeezing are investigated by considering different initi…
In this paper we carry out an information-theoretic analysis of the $D$-dimensional rigid rotator by studying the entropy and complexity measures of its wavefunctions, which are controlled by the hyperspherical harmonics. These measures quantify single and two-fold facets of the rich intrinsic structure of the system which are manifest by the intricate and complex variety of D-dimensional geometries of the hyperspherical harmonics. We calculate the explicit expressions of the entropic moments and the Rényi entropies as well as the Fisher-Rényi, Fisher-Shannon and LMC complexities of the system…
We develop a unified, information theoretic interpretation of the number-phase complementarity that is applicable both to finite-dimensional (atomic) and infinite-dimensional (oscillator) systems. The relevant uncertainty principle is obtained as a lower bound on {\it entropy excess}, the difference between number entropy and phase knowledge, the latter defined as the relative entropy with respect to the uniform distribution.
We extend algorithmic information theory to quantum mechanics, taking a universal semicomputable density matrix (``universal probability'') as a starting point, and define complexity (an operator) as its negative logarithm. A number of properties of Kolmogorov complexity extend naturally to the new domain. Approximately, a quantum state is simple if it is within a small distance from a low-dimensional subspace of low Kolmogorov complexity. The von Neumann entropy of a computable density matrix is within an additive constant from the average complexity. Some of the theory of randomness translat…
The "simple" measure of complexity of Shiner, Davison and Landsberg (SDL) and the "statistical" one, according to Lopez-Ruiz, Mancini and Calbet (LMC), are compared in atoms as functions of the atomic number Z. Shell effects i.e. local minima at the closed shells atoms are observed, as well as certain qualitative trends of SDL and LMC measueres of complexity. If we impose the condition that SDL and LMC behave similarly as functions of Z, then we can conclude that complexity increases with Z and for atoms the strength of disorder is zero and order is four.
We study the relations between the recently proposed machine-independent quantum complexity of P. Gacs~\cite{Gacs} and the entropy of classical and quantum systems. On one hand, by restricting Gacs complexity to ergodic classical dynamical systems, we retrieve the equality between the Kolmogorov complexity rate and the Shannon entropy rate derived by A.A. Brudno~\cite{Brudno}. On the other hand, using the quantum Shannon-Mc Millan theorem~\cite{BSM}, we show that such an equality holds densely in the case of ergodic quantum spin chains.
We create low-entropy states of neutral atoms by utilizing a conceptually new optical-lattice technique that relies on a high-precision, high-bandwidth synthesis of light polarization. Polarization-synthesized optical lattices provide two fully controllable optical lattice potentials, each of them confining only atoms in either one of the two long-lived hyperfine states. By employing one lattice as the storage register and the other one as the shift register, we provide a proof of concept using four atoms that selected regions of the periodic potential can be filled with one particle per site.…
We provide an algebraic procedure to find the eigenstates of two-charged particles in an oscillator potential, known as {\it{Hooke's}} atom. For the planar Hooke's atom, the exact eigenstates and single particle densities for arbitrary azimuthal quantum number, are obtained analytically. Information entropies associated with the wave functions for the relative motion are then studied systematically, since the same incorporates the effect of the Coulomb interaction. The {\it{quantum pottery}} of the information entropy density reveals a number of intricate structures, which differ significantly…
Shannon entropy ($S$), Fisher information ($I$) and a measure equivalent to Fisher-Shannon complexity $(C_{IS})$ of a ro-vibrational state of diatomic molecules (O$_2$, O$_2^+$, NO, NO$^+$) with generalized Kratzer potential is analyzed. \emph{Exact} analytical expression of $I_{\rvec}$ is derived for the arbitrary state, whereas the same could be done for $I_{\pvec}$ with $\{n,\ell,m=0\}$ state. It is found that shifting from neutral to the cationic system, $I_{\rvec}$ increases while $S_{\rvec}$ decreases, consistent with the interpretation of a localization in the probability distribution. …
In this work, we have investigated the phenomenon of acceleration radiation exhibited by an atom falling into a quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole. We observe that the excitation-probability of the atom with simultaneous emission of a photon satisfies the equivalence principle when we compare it to the excitation probability of a mirror accelerating with respect to an atom. We also demonstrate the validity of the equivalence principle for a generic black hole geometry. Then we calculate the horizon brightened acceleration radiation (HBAR) entropy for this quantum corrected black hole g…
In this paper, we study the interaction between a three-level atom and a quantized single-mode field with $` `$intensity-dependent coupling$"$ in a $` `$Kerr medium$"$. The three-level atom is considered to be in a $Λ$-type configuration. Under particular initial conditions, which may be prepared for the atom and the field, the dynamical state vector of the entire system will be explicitly obtained, for arbitrary nonlinearity function $f(n)$ associated to any physical system. Then, after evaluating the variation of the field entropy against time, we will investigate the quantum statistics as w…
We show that the entropy of entanglement is sensitive to the coherent quantum phase transition between normal and super-radiant regions of a system of a finite number of three-level atoms interacting in a dipolar approximation with a one-mode electromagnetic field. The atoms are treated as semi-distinguishable using different cooperation numbers and representations of SU(3), variables which are relevant to the sensitivity of the entropy with the transition. The results are computed for all three possible configurations (Ξ, Λ and V ) of the three-level atoms.
The internal disorder of hydrogenic Rydberg atoms as contained in their position and momentum probability densities is examined by means of the following information-theoretic spreading quantities: the radial and logarithmic expectation values, the Shannon entropy and the Fisher information. As well, the complexity measures of Crámer-Rao, Fisher-Shannon and LMC types are investigated in both reciprocal spaces. The leading term of these quantities is rigorously calculated by use of the asymptotic properties of the concomitant entropic functionals of the Laguerre and Gegenbauer orthogonal polyno…
In the configuration in which two-level atoms with an initial thermal distribution of their states are sent in succession to a cavity sustaining a single mode of electromagnetic radiation, one atom leaving the cavity as the next one enters it (as in the one-atom maser), Jaynes and Cummings showed that the steady state of the field, when many atoms have traversed the cavity, is thermal with a temperature different than that of the atoms in the off-resonant situation. Having an interaction between two subsystems which maintains them at different temperatures was then understood as leading to an …
We show for a general pure entangled state of two two-level atoms, the von Neumann entropy of the partial traces can be directly measured from the magnitude of the mean spin vector of a single atom of the pair. We emphasize the fact that the von Neumann entropy of the partial traces for such a system can be obtained without knowing the exact form of the quantum state of the two atoms, if we have the value of the magnitude of the mean spin vector of a single atom of the pair. Mean spin vector, used in the context of spin squeezing and spectroscopic squeezing in population spectroscopy, is exper…
In this paper, we are interested in studying entropy and dynamics entanglement between a single time dependent three-level atom interacting with one-mode cavity field when the atomic motion is taken into account. An exact analytical solution for the wave function is given by using Schrödinger equation for a specific initial condition. The field entropy of this system is investigated in the non-resonant case. The influences of the detuning parameters and atomic motion on the entanglement degree are examined. We show that both of the detuning parameters and atomic motion play important roles in …
In classical information theory, entropy rate and Kolmogorov complexity per symbol are related by a theorem of Brudno. In this paper, we prove a quantum version of this theorem, connecting the von Neumann entropy rate and two notions of quantum Kolmogorov complexity, both based on the shortest qubit descriptions of qubit strings that, run by a universal quantum Turing machine, reproduce them as outputs.
We show how to measure the order-two Renyi entropy of many-body states of spinful fermionic atoms in an optical lattice in equilibrium and non-equilibrium situations. The proposed scheme relies on the possibility to produce and couple two copies of the state under investigation, and to measure the occupation number in a site- and spin-resolved manner, e.g. with a quantum gas microscope. Such a protocol opens the possibility to measure entanglement and test a number of theoretical predictions, such as area laws and their corrections. As an illustration we discuss the interplay between thermal a…
We consider free fermion systems in arbitrary dimensions and represent the occupation pattern of each eigenstate as a classical binary string. We find that the Kolmogorov complexity of the string correctly captures the scaling behavior of its entanglement entropy (EE). In particular, the logarithmically-enhanced area law for EE in the ground state and the volume law for EE in typical highly excited states are reproduced. Since our approach does not require bipartitioning the system, it allows us to distinguish typical and atypical eigenstates directly by their intrinsic complexity. We reveal t…
We study the entanglement in a system consisting of two non-interacting atoms located in separate cavities, both in their ground states. A single incoming photon has a non-zero probability of entering either of the two cavities. The Jaynes-Cummings interaction in the rotating wave approximation describes the coupling of each atom with the radiation field. We compute and analyze the atom-atom entanglement, the entanglement between the two photon modes, and also the entanglement between each atom and each photon mode. The measure of entanglement is the von Neumann entropy. For the case in which …
We show that atoms falling from outside through a cavity into a black hole (BH) emit acceleration radiation which to a distant observer looks much like Hawking BH radiation. In particular, we find the entropy of the acceleration radiation via a simple laser-like analysis. We call this entropy Horizon Brightened Acceleration Radiation (HBAR) entropy to distinguish it from the BH entropy of Bekenstein and Hawking.

There is a remarkable interest in the study of Out-of-time ordered correlators (OTOCs) that goes from many body theory and high energy physics to quantum chaos. In this latter case there is a special focus on the comparison with the traditional measures of quantum complexity such as the spectral statistics, for example. The exponential growth has been verified for many paradigmatic maps and systems. But less is known for multi-partite cases. On the other hand the recently introduced Wigner separability entropy (WSE) and its classical counterpart (CSE) provide with a complexity measure that tre…
In this article, we investigate the quantum circuit complexity and entanglement entropy in the recently studied black hole gas framework using the two-mode squeezed states formalism written in arbitrary dimensional spatially flat cosmological Friedmann-Lema$\hat{i}$tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) background space-time. We compute the various complexity measures and study the evolution of these complexities by following two different prescriptions viz. Covariant matrix method and Nielsen's method. Independently, using the two-mode squeezed states formalism we also compute the Rényi and Von-Neumann …
