Given a finite group G with a bilocal representation, we investigate the bipartite entanglement in the state constructed from the group algebra of G acting on a separable reference state. We find an upper bound for the von Neumann entropy for a bipartition (A,B) of a quantum system and conditions to saturate it. We show that these states can be interpreted as ground states of generic Hamiltonians or as the physical states in a quantum gauge theory and that under specific conditions their geometric entropy satisfies the entropic area law. If G is a group of spin flips acting on a set of qubits, these states are locally equivalent to 2-colorable (i.e., bipartite) graph states and they include GHZ, cluster states etc. Examples include an application to qudits and a calculation of the n-tangle for 2-colorable graph states.
Entanglement swapping is a process by which two initially independent quantum systems can become entangled and generate nonlocal correlations. To characterize such correlations, we compare them to those predicted by bilocal models, where systems that are initially independent are described by uncorrelated states. We extend in this paper the analysis of bilocal correlations initiated in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 170401 (2010)]. In particular, we derive new Bell-type inequalities based on the bilocality assumption in different scenarios, we study their possible quantum violations, and analyze their…
It has been showed that two entangle pure states can violate the bilocal inequality in the entanglement-swapping network, vice versa. What happens for mixed states? Whether or not are there separable mixed states violating the bilocal inequality? In the work, we devote to finding the mixed Werner states which violate the bilocal inequality by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. Finally, we shows that there are pairs of states, where one is separable and the other is entangled, can violate the bilocal inequality.
A tripartite quantum network is said to be bilocal if two independent sources produce a pair of bipartite entangled states. Quantum non-bilocal correlation emerges when the central party which possesses two particles from two different sources performs Bell-state measurement on them and nonlocality is generated between the other two uncorrelated systems in this entanglement-swapping protocol. The interaction of such systems with the environment reduces quantum non-bilocal correlations. Here we show that the diminishing effect modelled by the amplitude damping channel can be slowed down by empl…
The nature of quantum correlations in networks featuring independent sources of entanglement remains poorly understood. Here, focusing on the simplest network of entanglement swapping, we start a systematic characterization of the set of quantum states leading to violation of the so-called "bilocality" inequality. First, we show that all possible pairs of entangled pure states can violate the inequality. Next, we derive a general criterion for violation for arbitrary pairs of mixed two-qubit states. Notably, this reveals a strong connection between the CHSH Bell inequality and the bilocality i…
Quantum correlation between nodes in a network which consist of several independent sources of entanglement and in multipartite entanglement systems are important for general understanding of the nature of nonlocality, quantum information processing and communication. In previous years, demonstrations of network nonlocality for bilocal scenarios have been in the focus. Yet, it has been found that the seminal protocols do not certify entanglement between end nodes, which otherwise require all sources in the network to be of nonlocal nature. This has motivated for development of even stronger co…
Quantum mechanics admits correlations that cannot be explained by local realistic models. Those most studied are the standard local hidden variable models, which satisfy the well-known Bell inequalities. To date, most works have focused on bipartite entangled systems. Here, we consider correlations between three parties connected via two independent entangled states. We investigate the new type of so-called "bilocal" models, which correspondingly involve two independent hidden variables. Such models describe scenarios that naturally arise in quantum networks, where several independent entangle…
We study thermalization in the holographic (1+1)-dimensional CFT after simultaneous generation of two high-energy excitations in the antipodal points on the circle. The holographic picture of such quantum quench is the creation of BTZ black hole from a collision of two massless particles. We perform holographic computation of entanglement entropy and mutual information in the boundary theory and analyze their evolution with time. We show that equilibration of the entanglement in the regions which contained one of the initial excitations is generally similar to that in other holographic quench …
Measurement-induced entanglement phase transitions, caused by the competition between entangling unitary dynamics and disentangling projective measurements, have been studied in various random circuit models in recent years. In this paper, we study the dynamics of averaged purity for a simple $N$-qudit Brownian circuit model with all-to-all random interaction and measurements. In the large-$N$ limit, our model is mapped to a one-dimensional quantum chain in the semi-classical limit, which allows us to analytically study critical behaviors and various other properties of the model. We show that…
Entanglement swapping entangles two particles that have never interacted[1], which implicitly assumes that each particle carries an independent local hidden variable, i.e., the presence of bilocality[2]. Previous experimental studies of bilocal hidden variable models did not fulfill the central requirement that the assumed two local hidden variable models must be mutually independent and hence their conclusions are flawed on the rejection of local realism[3-5]. By harnessing the laser phase randomization[6] rising from the spontaneous emission to the stimulated emission to ensure the independe…

We use hyper-entanglement to experimentally realize deterministic entanglement swapping based on quantum Elegant Joint Measurements. These are joint projections of two qubits onto highly symmetric, iso-entangled, bases. We report measurement fidelities no smaller than $97.4\%$. We showcase the applications of these measurements by using the entanglement swapping procedure to demonstrate quantum correlations in the form of proof-of-principle violations of both bilocal Bell inequalities and more stringent correlation criteria corresponding to full network nonlocality. Our results are a foray int…
An algebraic approach to the study of entanglement entropy of quantum systems is reviewed. Starting with a state on a $C^*$-algebra, one can construct a density operator describing the state in the GNS representation state. Applications of this approach to the study of entanglement measures for systems of identical particles are outlined. The ambiguities in the definition of entropy within this approach are then related to the action of unitaries in the commutant of the representation and their relation to modular theory explained.
A suitable deformation of the Hopf algebra of the creation and annihilation operators for a complex scalar field, initially quantized in Minkowski space--time, induces the canonical quantization of the same field in a generic gravitational background. The deformation parameter q turns out to be related to the gravitational field. The entanglement of the quantum vacuum appears to be robust against interaction with the environment.
We claim that both multipartiteness and localization of subsystems of compound quantum systems are of an essentially relative nature crucially depending on the set of operationalistically available states. In a more general setting, to capture the relativity and variability of our structures with respect to the observation means, sheaves of algebras may need be introduced. We provide the general formalism based on algebras which exhibits the relativity of multipartiteness and localization.
In this paper, the master equation for the coupled lossy waveguides is solved using the thermofield dynamics(TFD) formalism. This formalism allows the use of the underlying symmetry algebras SU(2) and SU(1,1), associated with the Hamiltonian of the coupled lossy waveguides,to compute entanglement and decoherence as a function of time for various input states such as NOON states and thermal states.
Entanglement has long been the subject of discussion by philosophers of quantum theory, and has recently come to play an essential role for physicists in their development of quantum information theory. In this paper we show how the formalism of algebraic quantum field theory (AQFT) provides a rigorous framework within which to analyze entanglement in the context of a fully relativistic formulation of quantum theory. What emerges from the analysis are new practical and theoretical limitations on an experimenter's ability to perform operations on a field in one spacetime region that can disenta…
The quantum deformation of the Hopf algebra describes the skeleton of quantum field theory, namely its characterizing feature consisting in the existence of infinitely many unitarily inequivalent representations of the canonical commutation relations. From this we derive the thermal properties of quantum field theory, with the entropy playing the role of the generator of the non-unitary time evolution. The entanglement of the quantum vacuum appears to be robust against interaction with the environment: on cannot ``unknot the knots" in the infinite volume limit.
Strong subadditivity goes beyond the tensored subsystem and commuting operator models. As previously noted by Petz and later by Araki and Moriya, two subalgebras of observables satisfy a generalized SSA-like inequality if they form a commuting square. We explore the interpretation and consequences in finite dimensions, connecting various entropic uncertainty relations for mutually unbiased bases with the positivity of a generalized conditional mutual information (CMI), and with inequalities on relative entropies of coherence and asymmetry. We obtain a bipartite resource theory of operations un…
A $q$-deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebra is used to define a deformed displacement operator giving rise to a naturally normalized nonlinear coherent states type. Robust maximally entangled deformed coherent states are studied and the effect of such a deformation on the amount of the entanglement is discussed. The analogy between environment decoherence and algebra deformation is made through the deformation parameter.
The Schr{ö}dinger-Robertson inequality generally provides a stronger bound on the product of uncertainties for two noncommuting observables than the Heisenberg uncertainty relation, and as such, it can yield a stricter separability condition in conjunction with partial transposition. In this paper, using the Schr{ö}dinger-Robertson uncertainty relation, the separability condition previously derived from the su(2) and the su(1,1) algebra is made stricter and refined to a form invariant with respect to local phase shifts. Furthermore, a linear optical scheme is proposed to test this invariant se…
In this paper, we investigate the entanglement degrees of pseudoscalar meson states via quantum algebra Y(su(3)). By making use of transition effect of generators J of Y(su(3)), we construct various transition operators in terms of J of Y(su(3)), and act them on eta-pion-eta mixing meson state. The entanglement degrees of both the initial state and final state are calculated with the help of entropy theory. The diagrams of entanglement degrees are presented. Our result shows that a state with desired entanglement degree can be achieved by acting proper chosen transition operator on an initial …
Studying quantum entanglement in systems of indistinguishable particles, in particular anyons, poses subtle challenges. Here, we investigate a model of one-dimensional anyons defined by a generalized algebra. This algebra has the special property that fermions in this model are composites of anyons. A Hubbad-like Hamiltonian is considered that allows hopping between nearest neighbour sites not just for the fundamental anyons, but for the fermionic anyon composites. Some interesting results regarding the quantum entanglement of these particles are obtained.
A method of constructing Temperley-Lieb algebras(TLA) representations has been introduced in [Xue \emph{et.al} arXiv:0903.3711]. Using this method, we can obtain another series of $n^{2}\times n^{2}$ matrices $U$ which satisfy the TLA with the single loop $d=\sqrt{n}$. Specifically, we present a $9\times9$ matrix $U$ with $d=\sqrt{3}$. Via Yang-Baxterization approach, we obtain a unitary $ \breve{R}(θ,φ_{1},φ_{2})$-matrix, a solution of the Yang-Baxter Equation. This $9\times9$ Yang-Baxter matrix is universal for quantum computing.
We present a generalization to 3-qubits of the standard Bloch sphere representation for a single qubit and of the 7-dimensional sphere representation for 2 qubits presented in Mosseri {\it et al.}\cite{Mosseri2001}. The Hilbert space of the 3-qubit system is the 15-dimensional sphere $S^{15}$, which allows for a natural (last) Hopf fibration with $S^8$ as base and $S^7$ as fiber. A striking feature is, as in the case of 1 and 2 qubits, that the map is entanglement sensitive, and the two distinct ways of un-entangling 3 qubits are naturally related to the Hopf map. We define a quantity that mea…
The entanglement-sharing properties of an infinite spin-chain are studied when the state of the chain is a pure, translation-invariant state with a matrix-product structure. We study the entanglement properties of such states by means of their finitely correlated structure. These states are recursively constructed by means of an auxiliary density matrix ρon a matrix algebra B and a completely positive map E: A \otimes B -> B, where A is the spin 2\times 2 matrix algebra. General structural results for the infinite chain are therefore obtained by explicit calculations in (finite) matrix algebra…
A system consisting of two identical single-mode cavities coupled to a common environment is investigated within the framework of algebraic dynamics. Based on the left and right representations of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra, the algebraic structure of the master equation is explored and exact analytical solutions of this system are obtained. It is shown that for such a system, the environment can produce entanglement in contrast to its commonly believed role of destroying entanglement. In addition, the collective zero-mode eigen solutions of the system are found to be free of decoherence agai…
We derive a class of inequalities, from the uncertainty relations of the SU(1,1) and the SU(2) algebra in conjunction with partial transposition, that must be satisfied by any separable two-mode states. These inequalities are presented in terms of the su(2) operators J_x, J_y, and the total photon number N_a+N_b. They include as special cases the inequality derived by Hillery and Zubairy [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 050503 (2006)], and the one by Agarwal and Biswas [New J. Phys. 7, 211 (2005)]. In particular, optimization over the whole inequalities leads to the criterion obtained by Agarwal and Bisw…
The multiparticle spacetime algebra (MSTA) is an extension of Dirac theory to a multiparticle setting, which was first studied by Doran, Gull and Lasenby. The geometric interpretation of this algebra, which it inherits from its one-particle factors, possesses a number of physically compelling features, including simple derivations of the Pauli exclusion principle and other nonlocal effects in quantum physics. Of particular importance here is the fact that all the operations needed in the quantum (statistical) mechanics of spin 1/2 particles can be carried out in the ``even subalgebra'' of the …
Free fermions on Hamming graphs $H(d,q)$ are considered and the entanglement entropy for two types of subsystems is computed. For subsets of vertices that form Hamming subgraphs, an analytical expression is obtained. For subsets corresponding to a neighborhood, i.e. to a set of sites at a fixed distance from a reference vertex, a decomposition in irreducible submodules of the Terwilliger algebra of $H(d,q)$ also yields a closed formula for the entanglement entropy. Finally, for subsystems made out of multiple neighborhoods, it is shown how to construct a block-tridiagonal operator which commut…
Entanglement is considered as a basic physical resource for modern quantum applications in Quantum Information and Quantum Computation theories. Interactions able to generate and sustain entanglement are subject to deep research in order to have understanding and control on it, based on specific physical systems. Atoms, ions or quantum dots are considered a key piece in quantum applications because is a basic piece of developments towards a scalable spin-based quantum computer through universal and basic quantum operations. Ising model is a type of interaction which generates and modifies enta…
From the consideration of measuring bipartite mixed states by separable pure states, we introduce algebraic sets in complex projective spaces for bipartite mixed states as the degenerating locus of the measurement. These algebraic sets are independent of the eigenvalues and only measure the "position" of eigenvectors of bipartite mixed states. They are nonlocal invariants ie., remaining invariant after local unitary transformations. The algebraic sets have to be the sum of the linear subspaces if the mixed states are separable, and thus we give a "eigenvalue-free" criterion of separability.Bas…
We classify, up to local unitary equivalence, local unitary stabilizer Lie algebras for symmetric mixed states into six classes. These include the stabilizer types of the Werner states, the GHZ state and its generalizations, and Dicke states. For all but the zero algebra, we classify entanglement types (local unitary equivalence classes) of symmetric mixed states that have those stabilizers. We make use of the identification of symmetric density matrices with polynomials in three variables with real coefficients and apply the representation theory of SO(3) on this space of polynomials.
We derive a set of algebraic equations, the so-called multipartite separability eigenvalue equations. Based on their solutions, we introduce a universal method for the construction of multipartite entanglement witnesses. We witness multipartite entanglement of $10^3$ coupled quantum oscillators, by solving our basic equations analytically. This clearly demonstrates the feasibility of our method for studying ultra-high orders of multipartite entanglement in complex quantum systems.
The SU(2) and SU(3) Lie algebras lend themselves naturally to studies of two- and three-well Bose-Einstein condensates, with the group operators being expressed in terms of bosonic annihilation and creation operators at each site. The success of these representations has led to the purities associated with these algebras to be promoted as a measure of entanglement between the atomic modes in each well. In this report, we show that these purities do not provide an unambiguous measure, but instead give results which depend on the quantum statistical states of each atomic mode. Using the example …
Several families of states such as Werner states, Bell-diagonal states and Dicke states are useful to understand multipartite entanglement. Here we present a [2^(N+1)-1]-parameter family of N-qubit "X states" that embrace all those families, generalizing previously defined states for two qubits. We also present the algebra of the operators that characterize the states and an iterative construction for this algebra, a sub-algebra of su(2^(N)). We show how a variety of entanglement witnesses can detect entanglement in such states. Connections are also made to structures in projective geometry.
We construct a class of algebraic invariants for N-qubit pure states based on bipartite decompositions of the system. We show that they are entanglement monotones, and that they differ from the well know linear entropies of the sub-systems. They therefore capture new information on the non-local properties of multipartite systems.
We relate SLOCC equivalence classes of qudit states to moduli spaces of Calabi-Yau manifolds equipped with a collection of line bundles. The cases of 3 qutrits and 4 qubits are also related to noncommutative algebraic geometry.
W-States have achieved the status of the standard fully symmetric entangled states, for many entanglement application purposes. Z-States are a generalization of W-States that display an elegant algebra, enabling short paths to desired results. This paper describes Z-States algebra starting from neat definitions and laying down explicitly some fundamental theorems on composition and distillation, needed for applications. These theorems are synthesized into a generic tunable Entanglement-Distillation Protocol. Applications are readily developed based upon the tunable protocol. A few examples are…
We investigate the transformation of entanglement entropy under dualities, using the Kramers-Wannier duality present in the transverse field Ising model as our example. Entanglement entropy between local spin degrees of freedom is not generically preserved by the duality; instead, entangled states may be mapped to states with no local entanglement. To understand the fate of this entanglement, we consider two quantitative descriptions of degrees of freedom and their transformation under duality. The first involves Kraus operators implementing the partial trace as a quantum channel, while the se…
We study positive maps of B(K) into B(H) for finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces K and H. Our main emphasis is on how Choi matrices and estimates of their norms with respect to mapping cones reflect various properties of the maps. Special attention will be given to entanglement properties and k-positive maps, in particular tensor products of 2-positive maps. The latter problem is directly related to the question of n-copy distillability of quantum states, for which we obtain a partial result.
The aim of the paper is to provide an method to obtain representations of the braid group through a set of quasitriangular Hopf algebras. In particular, these algebras may be derived from group algebras of cyclic groups with additional algebraic structures. In this context, by using the flip operator, it is possible to construct R-matrices that can be regarded as quantum logic gates capable of preserving quantum entanglement.
Algebraic approach to quantum non - separability is applied to the case of two qubits. It is based on the partition of the algebra of observables into independent subalgebras and the tensor product structure of the Hilbert space is not exploited. Even in this simple case, such general formulation has some advantages. Using algebraic formalism we can explicitly show the relativity of the notion of entanglement to the observables measured in the system and characterize separable and non - separable pure states. As a universal measure of non - separability of pure states we propose to take so cal…
Many-body entanglement is studied within the algebraic approach to quantum physics in systems made of Majorana fermions. In this framework, the notion of separability stems from partitions of the algebra of observables and properties of the associated correlation functions, rather than on particle tensor products. This allows obtaining a complete characterization of non-separable Majorana fermion states. These results may find direct applications in quantum metrology: using Majorana systems, sub-shot noise accuracy in parameter estimations can be achieved without preliminary, resource consumin…
A unit-preserving and completely positive linear map, or a channel, $Λ\colon \mathcal{A} \to \mathcal{A}_{\mathrm{in}}$ between $C^\ast$-algebras $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{\mathrm{in}}$ is called entanglement-breaking (EB) if $ω\circ( Λ\otimes \mathrm{id}_{\mathcal{B}} ) $ is a separable state for any $C^\ast$-algebra $\mathcal{B}$ and any state $ω$ on the injective $C^\ast$-tensor product $\mathcal{A}_{\mathrm{in}} \otimes \mathcal{B} .$ In this paper, we establish the equivalence of the following conditions for a channel $Λ$ with a quantum input space and with a general outcome $C^\ast…
We discuss the concept of how entanglement changes with respect to different factorizations of the total algebra which describes the quantum states. Depending on the considered factorization a quantum state appears either entangled or separable. For pure states we always can switch unitarily between separability and entanglement, however, for mixed states a minimal amount of mixedness is needed. We discuss our general statements in detail for the familiar case of qubits, the GHZ states, Werner states and Gisin states, emphasizing their geometric features. As theorists we use and play with this…
We present solutions to a set of problems that arise in quantum entanglement theory, whose common trait is the use of algebraic methods. The backbone of the thesis consists of two general theorems, pertaining to specific convex sets of quantum maps. They are complemented by solutions of many more specific problems of rather technical character. These problems concerned questions such as the higher rank numerical ranges, the lengths of separable states, the solutions of compression equations, the completely entangled subspaces, and maximally entangled states. The solutions were obtained partly …

We review supervised learning and deep neural network design for learning membership on algebraic varieties. We demonstrate that these trained artificial neural networks can predict the entanglement type for quantum states. We give examples for detecting degenerate states, as well as border rank classification for up to 5 binary qubits and 3 qutrits (ternary qubits).
Entanglement entropy and entanglement spectrum have been widely used to characterize quantum entanglement in extended many-body systems. Given a pure state of the system and a division into regions $A$ and $B$, they can be obtained in terms of the $Schmidt~ values$, or eigenvalues $λ_α$ of the reduced density matrix $ρ_A$ for region $A$. In this paper we draw attention instead to the $Schmidt~ vectors$, or eigenvectors $|v_α\rangle$ of $ρ_A$. We consider the ground state of critical quantum spin chains whose low energy/long distance physics is described by an emergent conformal field theory (C…
