The three- spin chain with Heisenberg XY- interaction is simulated in a three- qubit nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum computer. The evolution caused by the XY- interaction is decomposed into a series of single- spin rotations and the $J$- coupling evolutions between the neighboring spins. The perfect state transfer (PST) algorithm proposed by M. Christandl et al [Phys. Rev. Lett, 92, 187902(2004)] is realized in the XY- chain.
We study the protocol known as quantum state transfer for a strongly coupled antiferromagnetic spin chain or ring (acting as a spin bus), with weakly coupled external qubits. By treating the weak coupling as a perturbation, we find that perfect state transfer (PST) is possible when second order terms are included in the expansion. We also show that PST is robust against variations in the couplings along the spin bus and between the bus and the qubits. As evidence of the quantum interference which mediates PST, we show that the optimal time for PST can be smaller with larger qubit separations, …
In a one-dimensional Heisenberg chain, we show that there are no sets of coupling strengths such that the evolution perfectly transfers a quantum state between the two ends of the chain without the addition of magnetic fields. In lieu of perfect transfer, we consider a range of options for achieving high quality transfer, whether in finite time, or via "pretty good" transfer where one waits long times in the hope of getting arbitrarily close to perfect transfer. In attempting to engineer arbitrarily accurate transfer, we explore a new paradigm that facilitates time estimates for achieving any …
The controlled-NOT gate and controlled square-root NOT gate play an important role in quantum algorithm. This article reports the experimental results of these two universal quantum logic gates (controlled square-root NOT gate and controlled-NOT gate) on a 7-qubit NMR quantum computer. Further, we propose a simple experimental method to measure and correct the error in the controlled phase-shift gate, which is helpful to construct a more perfect phase-shift gate experimentally and can also be used in more qubits discrete Fourier transformation.
We show that ultracold polar diatomic or linear molecules, oriented in an external electric field and mutually coupled by dipole-dipole interactions, can be used to realize the exact Heisenberg XYZ, XXZ and XY models without invoking any approximation. The two lowest lying excited pendular states coupled by microwave or radio-frequency fields are used to encode the pseudo-spin. We map out the general features of the models by evaluating the models' constants as functions of the molecular dipole moment, rotational constant, strength and direction of the external field as well as the distance be…
In this paper, proof of the {\it Kurlberg-Rudnick supremum conjecture} for the quantum Hannay-Berry model is presented. This conjecture was stated in P. Kurlberg's lectures at Bologna 2001 and Tel-Aviv 2003. The proof is a primer application of a fundamental solution: all the Hecke eigenfunctions of the quantum system are constructed. The main tool in our construction is the categorification of the compatible system of realizations of the Heisenberg representation over a finite field. This enables us to construct certain "perverse sheaves" that stands motivically prior to the Hecke eigenfuncti…
We suggest a protocol for perfect quantum communication through spin chain channels. By combining a dual-rail encoding with measurements only at the receiving end, we can get conclusively perfect state transfer, whose probability of success can be made arbitrarily close to unity. As an example of such an amplitude delaying channel, we show how two parallel Heisenberg spin chains can be used as quantum wires. Perfect state transfer with a probability of failure lower than P in a Heisenberg chain of N spin-1/2 particles can be achieved in a timescale of the order of N^1.7|ln(P)|. We demonstrate …
We show that a special type of entangled states, cluster states, can be created with Heisenberg interactions and local rotations in 2d steps where d is the dimension of the lattice. We find that, by tuning the coupling strengths, anisotropic exchange interactions can also be employed to create cluster states. Finally, we propose electron spins in quantum dots as a possible realization of a one-way quantum computer based on cluster states.
Using a global optimization algorithm we obtain spin chains with site-dependent exchange coefficients which allow almost perfect quantum state transfer between the extremes of the chains without any further time-dependent external control. We consider chains with isotropic and anisotropic Heisenberg Hamiltonian with up to 100 spins. The method allow us to choose the arrival of the transferred state by changing the range available to the exchange coupling strengths. We consider short transferred times, in particular shorter than those achievable with known time-dependent control schemes. The ch…
We analyze analytically and numerically quantum logic gates in a one-dimensional spin chain with Heisenberg interaction. Analytic solutions for basic one-qubit gates and swap gate are obtained for a quantum computer based on logical qubits. We calculated the errors caused by imperfect pulses which implement the quantum logic gates. It is numerically demonstrated that the probability error is proportional to $ε^4$, while the phase error is proportional to $ε$, where $ε$ is the characteristic deviation from the perfect pulse duration.
We consider the two-step method [A. R. Kuzmak and V. M. Tkachuk, Phys. Lett. A 378 (2014) 1469] for preparation of an arbitrary quantum gate on two spins with anisotropic Heisenberg interaction. At the first step, the system evolves during some period of time. At the second step, we apply pulsed magnetic field individually to each spin. We obtain the conditions for realization of SWAP, iSWAP, $\sqrt{SWAP}$ and entangled gates. Finally, we consider the implementation of this method on the physical system of ultracold atoms in optical lattice.
We propose and analyze an efficient high-dimensional quantum state transfer scheme through an $XXZ$-Heisenberg spin chain in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. By the use of a combination of coherent quantum coupling and free spin-wave approximation, pure unitary evolution results in a perfect high-dimensional swap operation between two remote quantum registers mediated by a uniform quantum data bus, and the feasibility is confirmed by numerical simulations. Also, we observe that either the strong $z$-directional coupling or high quantum spin number can partly suppress the thermal excitations an…
Let $s_1,s_2,\ldots s_n$ be states of a general probability theory, and $\mathcal A$ be the set of all subsets of indices $H \subset [n]\equiv\{1,2,\ldots n\}$ such that the states $(s_j)_{j\in H}$ are jointly perfectly distinguishable. All subsets with a single element are of course in $\mathcal A$, and since smaller collections are easier to distinguish, if $H\in \mathcal A$ and $L \subset H$ then $L\in \mathcal A$; in other words, $\mathcal A$ is a so-called $\textit{independence system}$ on the set of indices $[n]$. In this paper it is shown that every independence system on $[n]$ can be r…

In this paper we consider the generation of a three-qubit GHZ-like thermal state by applying the entanglement swapping scheme of Zukowski {\it et al.} [Ann. N. Y. Acad. Sci. {\bf 755}, 91 (1995)] to three pairs of two-qubit Heisenberg XY chains. The quality of the resulting three-qubit entanglement is studied by analyzing the teleportation fidelity, when it is used as a resource in the teleportation protocol of Karlsson {\it et al.}[Phys. Rev. A {\bf 58}, 4394 (1998)]. We show that even though thermal noise in the original two-qubit states is amplified by the entanglement swapping process, we …
Toy models for quantum evolution in the presence of closed timelike curves (CTCs) have gained attention in the recent literature due to the strange effects they predict. The circuits that give rise to these effects appear quite abstract and contrived, as they require non-trivial interactions between the future and past which lead to infinitely recursive equations. We consider the special case in which there is no interaction inside the CTC, referred to as an open timelike curve (OTC), for which the only local effect is to increase the time elapsed by a clock carried by the system. Remarkably, …
We propose a Lyapunov control design to achieve specific (or a family of) unitary time-evolution operators, i.e., quantum gates in the Schrödinger picture by tracking control. Two examples are presented. In the first, we illustrate how to realize the Hadamard gate in a single-qubit system, while in the second, the controlled-NOT (CNOT) gate is implemented in two-qubit systems with the Ising and Heisenberg interactions. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the control can drive the time-evolution operator into the local equivalence class of the CNOT gate and the operator keeps in this class forever…
The entanglement dynamics of an anisotropic two-qubit Heisenberg XYZ system in the presence of intrinsic decoherence is studied. The usefulness of such system for performance of the quantum teleportation protocol ${\cal T}_0$ and entanglement teleportation protocol ${\cal T}_1$ is also investigated. The results depend on the initial conditions and the parameters of the system. For the product and maximally entangled initial states, increasing the size of spin-orbit interaction parameter $D$ amplifies the effects of dephasing and hence decreases the asymptotic entanglement and fidelity of telep…
We present a general formalism to the problem of perfect state-transfer (PST), where the state involves multiple excitations of the quantum network. A key feature of our formalism is that it allows for inclusion of nontrivial interactions between the excitations. Hence, it is perfectly suited to addressing the problem of PST in the context of various types of physical realizations. The general formalism is also flexible enough to account for situations where multiple excitations are "focused" onto the same site.
We demonstrate how near-perfect entanglement (in fact arbitrarily close to maximal entanglement) can be generated between the end spins of an anti-ferromagnetic isotropic Heisenberg chain of length $N$, starting from the ground state in the $N/2$ excitation subspace, by applying a magnetic field along a given direction, acting on a single spin only. Temporally optimal magnetic fields to generate a singlet pair between the two end spins of the chain are calculated for chains up to length 20 using optimal control theory. The optimal fields are shown to remain effective in various non-ideal situa…
We analytically and numerically study spin transport in a one-dimensional Heisenberg model in linear-response regime at infinite temperature. It is shown that as the anisotropy parameter Delta is varied spin transport changes from ballistic for Delta<1 to anomalous at the isotropic point Delta=1, to diffusive for finite Delta>1, ending up as a perfect isolator in the Ising limit of infinite Delta. Using perturbation theory for large Delta a quantitative prediction is made for the dependence of diffusion constant on Delta.
Asymptotic freedom, lost: Complex conformal field theory in the two-dimensional $O(N>2)$ nonlinear sigma model and its realization in Heisenberg spin chains
Quantum antiferromagnets are of broad interest in condensed matter physics as they provide a platform for studying exotic many-body states including spin liquids and high-temperature superconductors. Here, we report on the creation of a one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet with ultracold bosons. In a two-component Bose-Hubbard system, we switch the sign of the spin-exchange interaction and realize the isotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model in an extended 70-site chain. Starting from a low-entropy Néel-ordered state, we use optimized adiabatic passage to approach the bosonic antifer…
Enhancing fidelity in teleportation of a two-qubit state via a quantum communication channel formed by spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg trimer chains due to a magnetic field
Hamiltonian engineering is an important approach for quantum information processing, when appropriate materials do not exist in nature or are unstable. So far there is no stable material for the Kitaev spin Hamiltonian with anisotropic interactions on a honeycomb lattice (A. Kitaev, Annals of Physics vol 321, 2 (2006)), which plays a crucial role in the realization of both Abelian and non-Abelian anyons. Here, we show how to dynamically realize the Kitaev spin Hamiltonian from the conventional Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian using a pulse-control technique. By repeating the same pulse sequence, th…
We suggest graphene and a two-dimensional (2D) Weyl semimetal (WSM) as 2D materials for the realization of a broadband coherent perfect absorber (CPA) respecting overall PT-symmetry. We also demonstrate the conditions for mutually equal amplitudes and phases of the left and right incoming waves to realize a CPA. 2D materials in our system play the role to enhance the absorption rate of a CPA once the appropriate parameters are inserted in the system. We show that a 2D WSM is more effective than graphene in obtaining the optimal conditions. We display the behavior of each parameter governing th…
We propose and analyze a scheme for conditional state transfer in a Heisenberg $XXZ$ spin chain which realizes a quantum spin transistor. In our scheme, the absence or presence of a control spin excitation in the central gate part of the spin chain results in either perfect transfer of an arbitrary state of a target spin between the weakly coupled input and output ports, or its complete blockade at the input port. We also present a possible realization of the corresponding spin chain with a one-dimensional ensemble of cold atoms with strong contact interactions.
We investigate pairwise correlation properties of the ground state (GS) of finite antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin chains described by the Heisenberg model. The exchange coupling is restricted to nearest neighbor spins, and is constant $J_0$ except for a pair of neighboring sites, where the coupling $J_1$ may vary. We identify a rich variety of possible behaviors for different measures of pairwise (quantum and classical) correlations and entanglement in the GS of such spin chain. Varying a single coupling affects the degree of correlation between all spin pairs, indicating possible control over su…
We consider a system of qubits coupled via nearest-neighbour interaction governed by the Heisenberg Hamiltonian. We further suppose that all coupling constants are equal to $1$. We are interested in determining which graphs allow for a transfer of quantum state with fidelity equal to $1$. To answer this question, it is enough to consider the action of the Laplacian matrix of the graph in a vector space of suitable dimension. Our main result is that if the underlying graph is a tree with more than two vertices, then perfect state transfer does not happen. We also explore related questions, such…
We study the properties of an atomic Bose--Einstein condensate produced in an optical-box potential, using high-resolution Bragg spectroscopy. For a range of box sizes, up to $70~μ$m, we directly observe Heisenberg-limited momentum uncertainty of the condensed atoms. We measure the condensate interaction energy with a precision of $k_B \times 100$ pK and study, both experimentally and numerically, the dynamics of its free expansion upon release from the box potential. All our measurements are in good agreement with theoretical expectations for a perfectly homogeneous condensate of spatial exte…
A 3-parametric two-sided deformation of Heisenberg algebra (HA), with p,q-deformed commutator in the l.h.s. of basic defining relation and certain deformation of its r.h.s., is introduced and studied. The third deformation parameter μappears in an extra term in the r.h.s. as pre-factor of Hamiltonian. For this deformation of HA we find novel properties. Namely, we prove it is possible to realize this (p,q,μ)-deformed HA by means of some deformed oscillator algebra. Also, we find the unusual property that the deforming factor μ in the considered deformed HA inevitably depends explicitly on part…
