The Unruh effect in an Ion Trap: An Analogy

We propose an experiment in which the phonon excitation of ion(s) in a trap, with a trap frequency exponentially modulated at rate $κ$, exhibits a thermal spectrum with an "Unruh" temperature given by T=hbar*kappa. We discuss the similarities of this experiment to the usual Unruh effect for quantum fields and uniformly accelerated detectors. We demonstrate a new Unruh effect for detectors that respond to anti-normally ordered moments using the ion's first blue sideband transition.

Physical observers, $T$-vacuum and Unruh like effect in the radiation dominated early universe

We report the existence of an Unruh like effect, for physical observers (cosmological and comoving observers) in the radiation dominated early universe, which is possible due to the discovery of a new vacuum state (referred here as the $T-$vacuum). Local Quantum Thermometry using Unruh-De Witt detectors

We propose an operational definition for the local temperature of a quantum field employing Unruh-DeWitt detectors, as used in the study of the Unruh and Hawking effects. With this definition, an inhomogeneous quantum system in equilibrium can have different local temperatures, in analogy with the Tolman-Ehrenfest theorem from general relativity. Penning trap and vacuum noise

A number of comments are provided on Rogers's model experiment to measure the circular Unruh vacuum noise by means of a hyperbolic Penning trap inside a microwave cavity. It is suggested that cylindrical Penning traps, being geometrically simpler, and controlled almost at the same level of accuracy as the hyperbolic trap, might be a better choice for such an experiment. Besides, the microwave modes of the trap itself, of known analytical structure, can be directly used in trying to obtain measurable results for such a tiny noise effect.

Three level atom optics in dipole traps and waveguides

An analogy is explored between a setup of three atomic traps coupled via tunneling and an internal atomic three-level system interacting with two laser fields. Within this scenario we describe a STIRAP like process which allows to move an atom between the ground states of two trapping potentials and analyze its robustness. This analogy is extended to other robust and coherent transport schemes and to systems of more than a single atom. Finally it is applied to manipulate external degrees of freedom of atomic wave packets propagating in waveguides.

Radiative process of two entangled uniformly accelerated atoms in a thermal bath: a possible case of anti-Unruh event

We study the radiative process of two entangled two-level atoms uniformly accelerated in a thermal bath, coupled to a massless scalar field. First, using the positive frequency Wightman function from the Minkowski modes with a Rindler transformation we provide the transition probabilities for the transitions from maximally entangled symmetric and anti-symmetric Bell states to the collective excited state in $(1+1)$ and $(1+3)$ dimensions. Analogue of cosmological particle creation in an ion trap

We study phonons in a dynamical chain of ions confined by a trap with a time-dependent (axial) potential strength and demonstrate that they behave in the same way as quantum fields in an expanding/contracting universe. Simulating quantum effects of cosmological expansion using a static ion trap

We propose a new experimental testbed that uses ions in the collective ground state of a static trap for studying the analog of quantum-field effects in cosmological spacetimes, including the Gibbons-Hawking effect for a single detector in de Sitter spacetime, as well as the possibility of modeling inflationary structure formation and the entanglement signature of de Sitter spacetime.
