We show how Bell observables on a bipartite quantum system can be obtained by local observables via a controlled-unitary transformation. For continuous variables this result holds for the Bell observable corresponding to the non-conventional heterodyne measurement on two radiation modes, which is connected through a 50-50 beam-splitter to two local observables given by single-mode homodyne measurements. A simple scheme for a controlled-unitary transformation of continuous variables is also presented, which needs only two squeezers, a parametric downconverter and two beam splitters.
Experimental realization of nondestructive discrimination of Bell states using a five-qubit quantum computer
Gupta等人提出了一种允许非破坏性或间接Bell测量的分布式量子测量方案,(Int. J. Quant。Infor.
We introduce a simplified form of Stokes operators for quantum optical fields that involve the known concept of binning. Behind polarization analyzer photon numbers (more generally intensities) are measured. If the value obtained in one of the outputs, say H, is greater the than in the other one, V, then the value of the simplified Stokes operator is, say, 1, otherwise it is -1. For equal photon numbers we put 0. Such observables do not have all properties of the Stokes operators, but surprisingly can be employed in Bell type measurements, involving polarization analyzers. They are especially …
We analyze the validity of Bell and Kochen-Specker theorems under local (or noncontextual) realism but avoiding an assumption of the existence of a joint probability distribution for incompatible observables. We formulate a realist model which complies with this requirement. This is obtained by employing divergent sequences that nevertheless have marginals which are convergent. We find that under standard reasonable assumptions this possibility does not lead to a loophole of those theorems, by deriving a short of CHSH inequality valid for any finite size ensemble. Moreover, we analyze a Hardy'…
Derivation and experimental violation of Bell-like inequalities involve the measurement of in-compatible observables. Simple complementarity forbids the existence of such joint probabilitydistribution. Moreover, the measurement of incompatible observables requires different experimen-tal procedures, which no necessarily must share a common joint statistics. In this work, we avoidthese difficulties by proposing a joint simultaneous measurement experiment. We can obtain theexact individual statistics of all the observables involved in the Bell inequalities after a suitable datainversion. A lack …
Entropic Bell inequalities witness contextual probability distributions on sets of jointly measurable observables. We find that their violation does not entail a violation of the correlative Bell inequality for certain parameter values. This anomaly between the entropic and correlative measures of contextuality helps to precisely qualify the type of non-classical resource. We determine its numerical bounds inviting their experimental verification. Among the permutations of observables that keep this anomaly in place, we identify the 'exotic' type that gives rise to non-classical resources unde…
In most Bell tests, the measurement settings are specially chosen so that the maximal quantum violations of the Bell inequalities can be detected, or at least, the violations are strong enough to be observed. Such choices can usually associate the corresponding Bell operators to a kind of effective observables, called pseudo Pauli operators, providing us a more intuitive understanding of Bell nonlocality in some sense. Based on that, a more general quantum-to-classical approach for the constructions of Bell inequalities is developed. Using this approach, one can not only derive several kinds o…
We introduce two types of statistical quasi-separation between local observables to construct two-party Bell-type inequalities for an arbitrary dimensional systems and arbitrary number of measurement settings per site. Note that, the main difference between statistical quasi-separations and the usual statistical separations is that the former are not symmetric under exchange of the two local observables, whereas latter preserve the symmetry. We show that a variety of Bell inequalities can be derived by sequentially applying triangle inequalities which statistical quasi-separations satisfy. A s…
Quantum mechanics can produce correlations that are stronger than classically allowed. This stronger-than-classical correlation is the "fuel" for quantum computing. In 1991 Schumacher forwarded a beautiful geometric approach, analogous to the well-known result of Bell, to capture non-classicality of this correlation for a singlet state. He used well-established information distance defined on an ensemble of identically-prepared states. He calculated that for certain detector settings used to measure the entangled state, the resulting geometry violated a triangle inequality -- a violation that …
Quantum non-locality tests have been of interest since the 1960's paper by Bell on the original EPR paradox. The present paper discusses whether the CGLMP (Bell) inequalities are possible tests for showing that quantum theory is not underpinned by local hidden variable theory (LHVT). It is found by applying Fine's theorem that the CGLMP approach involves a LHVT for the joint probabilities associated with the measurement of one observable from each of the two sub-systems, even though the underlying probabilities for joint measurements of all four observables may involve a non-local HVT. The latt…
Sequential weak measurements of non-commuting observables is not only fundamentally interesting in quantum measurement but also shown potential in various applications. The previous reported methods, however, can only realize limited sequential weak measurements experimentally. In this Letter, we propose the realization of sequential measurements of arbitrary observables and experimentally demonstrate for the first time the measurement of sequential weak values of three non-commuting Pauli observables by using genuine single photons. The results presented here will not only improve our underst…
This paper illustrates a direct connection between quantum steering and non-trivial preparation contextuality. In two party-two measurement per party-two outcomes per measurement $(2-2-2)$ Bell scenario, any argument of Bell nonlocality is a proof of trivial preparation contextuality; however, the converse may not hold. If one of the parties (say, Alice) performs the measurements of more than two dichotomic observables, then it is possible to find a set of non-trivial functional relations between Alice's observables. We argue that the existence of a suitable set of such non-trivial relations b…
