We apply the projection evolution approach to the particle detection process and calculation of the detection moment. Influence of the essential system properties on the evolution process is discussed. It is shown, that using only the projection postulate in the evolution scheme allows to understand the time as a kind of observable.
In contrast to conjunctions of commutable projection operators unambiguously represented by their meets, the mathematical representation of conjunctions of incommutable projection operators is a question that has yet to be solved. This question relates to another asking whether the set of the column spaces of the projection operators, commutable and incommutable alike, forms a lattice. As it is demonstrated in the paper, if the Hilbert space is finite, the column spaces of the incommutable projection operators cannot be elements of one partially ordered set in accordance with Burnside's theore…
This note discusses how an operator analog of the Lagrange polynomial naturally arises in the quantum-mechanical problem of constructing an explicit form of the spin projection operator.
By means of the technique of integration within an ordered product of operators and Dirac notation, we introduce a new kind of asymmetric integration projection operators in entangled state representations. These asymmetric projection operators are proved to be the Hermitian operator. Then, we rigorously demonstrate that they correspond to a parity measurement combined with a beam splitter when any two-mode quantum state passes through such device. Therefore we obtain a new relation between a Hermitian operator and the entangled state representation. As applications, we recover the previous re…
The not necessarily unitary evolution operator of a finite dimensional quantum system is studied with the help of a projection operators technique. Applying this approach to the Schrödinger equation allows the derivation of an alternative expression for the evolution operator, which differs from the traditional chronological exponent. An appropriate choice of projection operators results in the possibility of studying the diagonal and non-diagonal elements of the evolution operator separately. The suggested expression implies a particular form of perturbation expansion, which leads to a new fo…
We show that the set of projections in an operator system can be detected using only the abstract data of the operator system. Specifically, we show that if $p$ is a positive contraction in an operator system $V$ which satisfies certain order-theoretic conditions, then there exists a complete order embedding of $V$ into $B(H)$ mapping $p$ to a projection operator. Moreover, every abstract projection in an operator system $V$ is an honest projection in the C*-envelope of $V$. Using this characterization, we provide an abstract characterization for operator systems spanned by two commuting famil…
Dynamics of a state of interest coupled to a non-Markovian environment is studied for the first time by concatenating the non-Markovian quantum state diffusion (QSD) equation and the Feshbach projection operator partitioning technique. An exact one-dimensional stochastic master equation is derived as a general tool for controlling an arbitrary component of the system. We show that the exact one-dimensional stochastic master equation can be efficiently solved beyond the widely adapted second-order master equations. The generality and applicability of this hybrid approach is justified and exempl…
The problem of construction of projection operators on eigen-subspaces of symmetry operators is considered. This problem arises in many approximate methods for solving time-independent and time-dependent quantum problems, and its solution ensures proper physical symmetries in development of approximate methods. The projector form is sought as a function of symmetry operators and their eigenvalues characterizing the eigen-subspace of interest. This form is obtained in two steps: 1) identification of algebraic structures within a set of symmetry operators (e.g. groups and Lie algebras), and 2) c…
We present explicit expressions for Fock-space projection operators that correspond to realistic final states in scattering experiments. Our operators automatically sum over unobserved quanta and account for non-emission into sub-regions of momentum space.
A minimal set of measurement operators for quantum state tomography has in the non-degenerate case ideally eigenbases which are mutually unbiased. This is different for the degenerate case. Here, we consider the situation where the measurement operators are projections on individual pure quantum states. This corresponds to maximal degeneracy. We present numerically optimized sets of projectors and find that they significantly outperform those which are taken from a set of mutually unbiased bases.
We derive an exact equation of motion for the reduced density matrices of individual subsystems of quantum many-body systems of any lattice dimension and arbitrary system size. Our projection operator based theory yields a highly efficient analytical and numerical approach. Besides its practical use it provides a novel interpretation and systematic extension of mean-field approaches and an adaption of open quantum systems theory to settings where a dynamically evolving environment has to be taken into account. We show its high accuracy for two significant classes of complex quantum many-body d…
