In the tight-binding approximation we consider multi-channel transmission through a billiard coupled to leads. Following Dittes we derive the coupling matrix, the scattering matrix and the effective Hamiltonian, but take into account the energy restriction of the conductance band. The complex eigenvalues of the effective Hamiltonian define the poles of the scattering matrix. For some simple cases, we present exact values for the poles. We derive also the condition for the appearance of double poles.
Recent works have established universal entanglement properties and demonstrated validity of single-particle eigenstate thermalization in quantum-chaotic quadratic Hamiltonians. The quantum dynamics of a driven single-band tight-binding model with different boundary conditions is considered. The relation between the Hamiltonian describing the single-band tight-binding dynamics and the Hamiltonian of a discrete-charge mesoscopic quantum circuit is elucidated. It is shown that the former Hamiltonian, with Dirichlet boundary conditions, can be considered as a realization of the deformed parafermionic polynomial algebras.
We generalize solid-state tight-binding techniques for the spectral analysis of large superconducting circuits. We find that tight-binding states can be better suited for approximating the low-energy excitations than charge-basis states, as illustrated for the interesting example of the current-mirror circuit. The use of tight binding can dramatically lower the Hilbert space dimension required for convergence to the true spectrum, and allows for the accurate simulation of larger circuits that are out of reach of charge basis diagonalization.
The dynamics of the driven tight binding model for Wannier-Stark systems is formulated and solved using a dynamical algebra. This Lie algebraic approach is very convenient for evaluating matrix elements and expectation values. It is also shown that a dynamical invariant can be constructed. A classicalization of the tight binding model is discussed as well as some illustrating examples of Bloch oscillations and dynamical localization effects.
We present a one-dimensional tight-binding chain of two-level systems coupled only through common dissipative Markovian reservoirs. This quantum chain can demonstrate anomalous thermodynamic behavior contradicting Fourier law. Population dynamics of individual systems of the chain is polynomial with the order determined by the initial state of the chain. The chain can simulate classically hard problems, such as multi-dimensional random walks.
Reflectionless defects in Hermitian tight-binding lattices, synthesized by the intertwining operator technique of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, are generally not invisible and time-of-flight measurements could reveal the existence of the defects. Here it is shown that, in a certain class of non-Hermitian tight-binding lattices with complex hopping amplitudes, defects in the lattice can appear fully invisible to an outside observer. A method for high-fidelity coherent adiabatic transport in a zig-zag tight-binding chain, based on application of two external periodic driving fields, is theoretically proposed. The method turns out to be robust against imperfections and disorder of the static lattice Hamiltonian, is tolerant to next-nearest neighborhood interactions, and enables coherent transport in long chains without the need for a local control and timing of the trapping potential.
An exactly-solvable model for the decay of a metastable state coupled to a semi-infinite tight-binding lattice, showing large deviations from exponential decay in the strong coupling regime, is presented. An optical realization of the lattice model, based on discrete diffraction in a semi-infinite array of tunneling-coupled optical waveguides, is proposed to test non-exponential decay and for the observation of an optical analog of the quantum Zeno effect.
Dynamics of N bodies interacting with quantum cavity is presented. The rotating frame approximation is not used and obtained solutions are the most basic in the framework of generalized Jaynes-Cummings tight-binding model. All presented solutions are entirely analytical and are expressed in terms of elementary functions. We investigate the time evolution of Gaussian wave packet (GWP) in the tight-binding chain with uniform nearest neighbor (NN) hopping integral. Analytical analysis and numerical simulations show that the fractional revival of the quantum state occurs in such system, i.e., at appropriate time, a GWP can evolve into many copies of the initial state at different positions. The application of this quantum phenomenon to the scheme of quantum information transfer in solid-state system is discussed.
We study the effect of two non-interacting impurity atoms near by a one-dimensional nanowire, which is modeled as a tight-binding hopping model. The virtual single-electron hopping between two impurities will induce an additional energy depending on the distance of two impurities, which gives a electronic Casimir-Polder effect. We find that the Casimir-Polder force between the two impurities decreases with the impurity-impurity distance exponentially. And the effects of nanowire and finite temperature on the Casimir-Polder force are also discussed in detail, respectively.
We use the concept of two-particle probability amplitude to derive the stochastic evolution equation for two-particle four-point correlations in tight-binding networks affected by diagonal dynamic disorder. It is predicted that in the presence of dynamic disorder, the average spatial wave function of indistinguishable particle pairs delocalizes and populates all network sites including those which are weakly coupled in the absence of disorder. Interestingly, our findings reveal that correlation elements accounting for particle indistinguishability are immune to the impact of dynamic disorder.
Employing tight-binding approximation we derive a transfer matrix formalism for one-dimensional single photon transport through a composite scattering center, which consists of parallel connected resonator optical waveguides. By solving the single-mode eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian, we investigate the quantum interference effects of parallel couplings on the photon transport through this parallel waveguide structure. We investigate the spectral properties and dynamical features of a time-periodic PT-symmetric Hamiltonian on a one-dimensional tight-binding lattice. It is shown that a high-frequency modulation can drive the system under a transition between the broken-PT and the unbroken-PT phases. The time-periodic modulation in the unbroken-PT regime results in a significant broadening of the quasi-energy spectrum, leading to a hyper-ballistic transport regime. We suggest a simple method to engineer a tight-binding quantum network based on proper coupling to an auxiliary non-Hermitian cluster. In particular, it is shown that effective complex non-Hermitian hopping rates can be realized with only complex on-site energies in the network. Analog quantum simulators rely on programmable quantum devices to emulate Hamiltonians describing various physical phenomenon. Photonic coupled cavity arrays are a promising platform for realizing such devices. We present a method which computes many-electron energies and eigenfunctions by a full configuration interaction which uses a basis of atomistic tight-binding wave functions. This approach captures electron correlation as well as atomistic effects, and is well suited to solid state quantum dot systems containing few electrons, where valley physics and disorder contribute significantly to device behavior. Results are reported for a two-electron silicon double quantum dot as an example.

We consider the distribution of waiting times between non-interacting fermions on a tight-binding chain. We calculate the waiting time distribution for a quantum point contact and find a cross-over from Wigner-Dyson statistics at full transmission to Poisson statistics close to pinch-off as predicted by scattering theory. In addition, we consider several quantum dot structures for which we can associate oscillations in the waiting time distributions to internal energy scales of the scatterers. This paper extends work done to date on quantum computation by associating potentials with different types of computation steps. Quantum Turing machine Hamiltonians, generalized to include potentials, correspond to sums over tight binding Hamiltonians each with a different potential distribution. Which distribution applies is determined by the initial state. An example, which enumerates the integers in succession as binary strings, is analyzed. It is seen that for some initial states the potential distributions have quasicrystalline properties and are similar to a substitution sequence.
In this paper we consider the nonlinear one-dimensional time-dependent Schroedinger equation with a periodic potential and a local perturbation. In the limit of large periodic potential the time behavior of the wavefunction can be approximated, with a precise estimate of the remainder term, by means of the solution to the discrete nonlinear Schroedinger equation of the tight-binding model.
We investigate the particle trapping and scattering properties in a tight-binding network which consists of several subgraphs. The particle trapping condition is proved under which particles can be trapped in a subgraph without leaking. Based on exact solutions for the configuration of a $π$-shaped lattice, it is argued that the bound states in a specified subgraph are of two types, resonant and evanescent. We propose a tight binding model for the quantum spin Hall system on triangular optical lattice and we determined the edge state spectrum which contains gap traversing states as the hallmark of $\mathds{Z}_{2}$ topological insulator. The advantage of this system is the possibility of implementing it in the fermionic ultracold atomic system whose nearly free electron limit is proposed by B. Béri and N. R. Cooper, Phys. Rev. Parafermions that generalize (Majorana or usual) fermions appear as interacting quasi-particles because of their nature. Although attempts to develop models with free (non-interacting) parafermions have been undertaken, existing proposals require unphysical conditions such as realizing purely non-Hermitian systems. Here we present a way for the realization of free Fock parafermions in the tight-binding model with controlled dissipation of a very simple form. Introducing dissipation transforms an originally non-integrable quantum model to an exactly solvable classical one.
We explore an alternative way of finding the link between a PT non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and a Hermitian one. Based on the analysis of the scattering problem for an imaginary potential and its time reversal process, it is shown that any real-energy eigenstate of a PT tight-binding lattice with on-site imaginary potentials shares the same wave function with a resonant transmission state of the corresponding Hermitian lattice embedded in a chain.
