The teleportation channel associated with an arbitrary bipartite state denotes the map that represents the change suffered by a teleported state when the bipartite state is used instead of the ideal maximally entangled state for teleportation. This work presents and proves an explicit expression of the teleportation channel for the teleportation using Weyl's projective unitary representation of the space of 2n-tuples of numbers from Z/dZ for integers d>1, n>0, which has been known for n=1. This formula allows any correlation among the n bipartite mixed states, and an application shows the existence of reliable schemes for distillation of entanglement from a sequence of mixed states with correlation.
There has been spectacular progress in the field of quantum information in recent decades. The development of this field highlights the importance of the role of entanglement in quantum computing, quantum teleportation and quantum cryptography. These notes serve to provide a gentle introduction to the entanglement of bipartite states. In these notes, we introduce Bell's theorem in the form derived by Clauser, Horne, Shimony and Holt. We discuss the Schmidt decomposition and the Peres-Horodecki criterion in the entanglement of pure and mixed bipartite states. Finally, we describe a teleportatio…
Antilinearity is quite natural in bipartite quantum systems. There is a one-to-one correspondence between vectors and certain antilinear maps, here called EPR-maps. Some of their properties and uses, including the factorization of quantum teleportation maps, is explained. There is an elementary link to twisted Kronecker products and to the modular objects of Tomita and Takesaki.
A class of quantum protocols to teleport bipartite (entangled) states of two qubits is suggested. Our schemes require a single entangled pair shared by the two parties and the transmission of three bits of classical information, as well as a two-qubit gate with an additional qubit at the receiver' location. Noisy quantum channels are considered and the effects on both the teleportation fidelity and the entanglement of the replica are evaluated.
The average fidelity of the teleportation of a coherent state is calculated for general Gaussian bipartite systems shared by the partners of the protocol, Alice and Bob. It is considered that the shared Gaussian bipartite modes suffer independent attenuations before the processing of Alice and Bob. Moreover the classical communication between the partners can be controlled by a gain not necessarily unitary. Comparing with the classical fidelity threshold of measure-and-prepare methods, we establish several genuinely quantum teleportation conditions which depend on the gain and the local attenu…
Quantum entanglement plays crucial roles in quantum information processing. Quantum entangled states have become the key ingredient in the rapidly expanding field of quantum information science. Although the nonclassical nature of entanglement has been recognized for many years, considerable efforts have been taken to understand and characterize its properties recently. In this review, we introduce some recent results in the theory of quantum entanglement. In particular separability criteria based on the Bloch representation, covariance matrix, normal form and entanglement witness; lower bound…
The relations of antilinear maps, bipartite states and quantum channels is summarized. Antilinear maps are applied to describe bipartite states and entanglement. Teleportation is treated in this general formalism with an emphasis on conditional schemes applying partially entangled pure states. It is shown that in such schemes the entangled state shared by the parties, and those measured by the sender should ``match'' each other.
Entanglement and mixedness of a bipartite mixed state resource are crucial for the success of quantum teleportation. Upper bounds on measures of mixedness, namely, von Neumann entropy and linear entropy beyond which the bipartite state ceases to be useful for quantum teleportation are known in the literature. In this work, we generalize these bounds and obtain rank dependent upper bounds on von Nuemann entropy and linear entropy for an arbitrary bipartite mixed state resource. We observe that the upper bounds on measures of mixedness increase with increase in the rank. For two qubit mixed stat…
We prove a theorem on direct relation between the optimal fidelity $f_{max}$ of teleportation and the maximal singlet fraction $F_{max}$ attainable by means of trace-preserving LQCC action (local quantum and classical communication). For a given bipartite state acting on $C^d\otimes C^d$ we have $f_{max}= {F_{max}d+1\over d+1}$. We assume completely general teleportation scheme (trace preserving LQCC action over the pair and the third particle in unknown state). The proof involves the isomorphism between quantum channels and a class of bipartite states. We also exploit the technique of $U\otim…
We present a mathematical formulation of old teleportation protocol (original teleportation protocol introduced by Bennett et.al.) for mixed states and study in detail the role of mixedness of the two qubit quantum channel in a teleportation protocol. We show that maximally entangled mixed state described by the density matrix of rank-4 will be useful as a two qubit teleportation channel to teleport a single qubit mixed state when the teleportation channel parameter p1 greater than 0.5. Also we discuss the case when p1 less than equal to 0.5.
We consider the standard quantum teleportation protocol where a general bipartite state is used as entanglement resource. We use the entanglement fidelity to describe how well the standard quantum teleportation channel transmits quantum entanglement and give a simple expression for the entanglement fidelity when it is averaged on all input states.
We present an inequality for detecting entanglement and distillability of arbitrary dimensional bipartite systems. This inequality provides a sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite mixed states, and a necessary and sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite pure states. Moreover, the inequality also gives a necessary and sufficient condition for distillability.
Within the context of quantum teleportation, a proposed intuitive model to explain bipartite entanglement describes the scheme as being the same qubit of information evolving along and against the flow of time of an external observer. We investigate the physicality of such a model by applying the time-reversal of the Schrodinger equation in the teleportation context. To do so, we first lay down the theory of time-reversal applied to the circuit model and then show that the outcome of a teleportation-like circuit is consistent with the usual tensor product treatment, thus independent of the phy…
We investigate the teleportation of the bipartite entangled states through two equally noisy quantum channels, namely mixture of Bell states. There is a particular mixed state channel for which all pure entanglement in a known Schmidt basis remain entangled after teleportation and it happens till the channel state remains entangled. Werner state channel lacks both these features. The relation of these noisy channels with violation of Bell's inequality and 2-E inequality is studied.
Quantum teleportation of a n-qubit state performed using as entangled resource a general bipartite state of 2n qubits instead of n Bell states is equivalent to a correlated Pauli channel. This provides a new characterization of such channels in terms of many-body correlation functions of the teleporting media. Our model is then generalized to the Continuous Variable case. We show that this new representation provides a relatively simple method for determining whether a correlated quantum channel is able to reliably convey quantum messages by studying the entanglement properties of the teleport…
We discuss the relation between fermion entanglement and bipartite entanglement. We first show that an exact correspondence between them arises when the states are constrained to have a definite local number parity. Moreover, for arbitrary states in a four dimensional single-particle Hilbert space, the fermion entanglement is shown to measure the entanglement between two distinguishable qubits defined by a suitable partition of this space. Such entanglement can be used as a resource for tasks like quantum teleportation. On the other hand, this fermionic entanglement provides a lower bound to t…
We show that {\it one} single-mode squeezed state distributed among $N$ parties using linear optics suffices to produce a truly $N$-partite entangled state for any nonzero squeezing and arbitrarily many parties. From this $N$-partite entangled state, via quadrature measurements of $N-2$ modes, bipartite entanglement between any two of the $N$ parties can be `distilled', which enables quantum teleportation with an experimentally determinable fidelity better than could be achieved in any classical scheme.
Entanglement distillation is an essential ingredient for long distance quantum communications. In the continuous variable setting, Gaussian states play major roles in quantum teleportation, quantum cloning and quantum cryptography. However, entanglement distillation from Gaussian states has not yet been demonstrated. It is made difficult by the no-go theorem stating that no Gaussian operation can distill Gaussian states. Here we demonstrate the entanglement distillation from Gaussian states by using measurement-induced non-Gaussian operations, circumventing the fundamental restriction of the n…
We present a lower bound of concurrence for arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum states. This lower bound may be used to improve all the known lower bounds of concurrence. Moreover, the lower bound gives rise to an operational sufficient criterion of distillability of quantum entanglement. The significance of our result is illustrated by quantitative evaluation of entanglement for entangled states that fail to be identified by the usual concurrence estimation method, and by showing the distillability of mixed states that can not be recognized by other distillability criteria.
In this paper, an optimal scheme of four-level quantum teleportation and swapping of quantum entanglement is given. We construct a complete orthogonal basis of the bipartite ququadrit systems. Using this basis, the four-level quantum teleportation and swapping can be achieved according to the standard steps. In addition, associate the above bases with the unextendible product bases and the exact entanglement bases, we prove that in the $2\times 2\times 2$ systems or $3\times 3$ systems the collective translations of multipartite quantum entanglement can be realized. We provide an alternative simple proof of the necessity of entanglement in quantum teleportation by using the no-disentanglement theorem. We show that this is true even when the state to be teleported is known to be among two noncommuting qubits. We further show that to teleport any set of commuting qubits, it is sufficient to have a classically correlated channel. Using this result we provide a simple proof of the fact that any set of bipartite entangled states can be exactly disentangled if the single particle density matrices of any one party commute.
Nonperturbative analysis of quantum entanglement and quantum teleportation protocol using oscillator variables carried by observers in relativistic motion under the continuous influence of the environment is given. The full time evolution of quantum entanglement among static and accelerated observers is studied. The environment plays a dual role. While it creates bipartite and tripartite entanglement among observers even when the initial state is separable, it suppresses the entanglement via decoherence. Motivated by the black hole information problem, we consider quantum teleportation between…
We consider two qubit teleportation via quantum channel affected by amplitude damping noise. Addressing the same problem, X. Hu, Y. Gu, Q. Gong and G. Guo [Phys. Rev. A 81, 054302, (2010)] recently showed that in presence of noise, subjecting more qubits in quantum channel to amplitude damping can increase the fidelity of teleportation protocol. However, in this paper, by making some adjustments on quantum channel, we obtain teleportation fidelity which is even higher than one in the case of X. Hu et al. Moreover, our strategy is simpler than quantum distillation and compared to using weak mea…
The influence of gravitational field on entanglement of bipartite states is investigated based on the recent idea of superposition states of gravitational field. Different from earlier considerations, we study the case where the gravitational field cannot be separated unitarily from the bipartite system in the final stage of the interaction. When the different gravitational field states are orthogonal, entanglement cannot be generated for an initial product state. If the different gravitational field states are non-orthogonal, entanglement can be generated and the amount of generated entanglem…
The significance of photon addition in engineering the single- and two-mode (bipartite correlations) nonclassical properties of a quantum state is investigated. Specifically, we analyzed the behavior of the Wigner function of two quasi-Werner states theoretically constructed by superposing two normalized bipartite $m$-photon added coherent states. This allowed us to quantify the amount of nonclassicality present in the quantum states using Wigner logarithmic negativity (WLN), while quantum correlations are measured in terms of concurrence, entanglement of formation, and quantum discord. The WL…
We present a new asymptotic bipartite entanglement distillation protocol that outperforms all existing asymptotic schemes. This protocol is based on the breeding protocol with the incorporation of two-way classical communication. Like breeding, the protocol starts with an infinite number of copies of a Bell-diagonal mixed state. Breeding can be carried out as successive stages of partial information extraction, yielding the same result: one bit of information is gained at the cost (measurement) of one pure Bell state pair (ebit). The basic principle of our protocol is at every stage to replace…
We study bipartite entangled states in arbitrary dimensions and obtain different bounds for the entanglement measures in terms of teleportation fidelity. We find that there is a simple relation between negativity and teleportation fidelity for pure states but for mixed states, an upper bound is obtained for negativity in terms of teleportation fidelity using convex-roof extension negativity (CREN). However, with this it is not clear how to distinguish betweeen states useful for teleportation and positive partial transpose (PPT) entangled states. Further, there exists a strong conjecture in the…
The bipartite quantum teleportation with a three-qubit mixture of GHZ and W states as a quantum channel is discussed. When the quantum channel is a mixed state consisting of the GHZ state plus small perturbed W state, the entanglement of the channel becomes zero when the average fidelity $\bar{F}_{GHZ}$ is less than 0.775. This means that the mixed state cannot play an any role as a quantum channel at $\bar{F}_{GHZ} \leq 0.775$. For the case of the mixed state consisting of the W state plus small perturbed GHZ state it turn out that this mixed state cannot play a role as a quantum channel at $…
Decoherence is an unavoidable phenomenon that results from the interaction of the system with its surroundings. The study of decoherence due to the relativistic effects has the fundamental importance. The Unruh effect is observed by the relativistically accelerator observer. The unruh effect acts as a quantum channel and we call it the Unruh Channel. The Unruh channel can be characterize by providing its Kraus representation. We consider the bipartite scheme in which the quantum information is shared between an inertial observer (Alice) and an accelerated observer (Rob) in the case of Dirac fi…
Quantum entanglement is an enigmatic and powerful property that has attracted much attention due to its usefulness in new ways of communications, like quantum teleportation and quantum key distribution. Much effort has been done to quantify entanglement. Indeed, there exist some well-established separability criterion and analytical formulas for the entanglement of bipartite systems. In some of these, the crucial elements are the eigenvalues of the partial transpose of the density matrix. In this paper, we show that one can also have information about the entanglement of bipartite state, in C2…
We describe a protocol which can be used to generate any N-partite pure quantum state using Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) pairs. This protocol employs only local operations and classical communication between the N parties (N-LOCC). In particular, we rely on quantum data compression and teleportation to create the desired state. This protocol can be used to obtain upper bounds for the bipartite entanglement of formation of an arbitrary N-partite pure state, in the asymptotic limit of many copies. We apply it to a few multipartite states of interest, showing that in some cases it is not optimal…
Entanglement distillation is a basic task in quantum information, and the distillable entanglement of three bipartite reduced density matrices from a tripartite pure state has been studied in [Phys. Rev. A 84, 012325 (2011)]. We extend this result to tripartite mixed states by studying a conjectured matrix inequality, namely $\mathop{\rm rank}(\sum_i R_i \otimes S_i)\leq K \mathop{\rm rank}(\sum_i R_i^T \otimes S_i)$ holds for any bipartite matrix $M=\sum_i R_i \otimes S_i$ and Schmidt rank $K$. We prove that the conjecture holds for $M$ with $K=3$ and some special $M$ with arbitrary $K$.
We propose a scheme for distillation of free bipartite entanglement from bipartite bound-entangled states. The crucial element of our scheme is an ancillary system that is coupled to the initial bound-entangled state via appropriate weak measurements. We show that in this protocol free entanglement can be always generated with nonzero probability by using a single copy of the bound-entangled state. We also derive a lower bound on the entanglement cost of the protocol, and conclude that, on average, applying weaker measurements results in relatively higher values of free entanglement as well as…
We evaluate the one-shot entanglement of assistance for an arbitrary bipartite state. This yields another interesting result, namely a characterization of the one-shot distillable entanglement of a bipartite pure state. This result is shown to be stronger than that obtained by specializing the one-shot hashing bound to pure states. Finally, we show how the one-shot result yields the operational interpretation of the asymptotic entanglement of assistance proved in [Smolin et al., Phys. Rev. A 72, 052317 (2005)].
We study the teleportation scheme performed by means of a partially entangled pure state. We found that the information belonging to the quantum channel can be distributed into both the system of the transmitter and the system of the receiver. Thus, in order to complete the teleportation process it is required to perform an "unambiguous non-orthogonal quantum states discrimination" and an "extraction of the quantum information" processes. This general scheme allows one to design a strategy for concealing the unknown information of the teleported state. Besides, we showed that the teleportation…
Any bipartite nonlocal unitary operation can be carried out by teleporting a quantum state from one party to the other, performing the unitary gate locally, and teleporting a state back again. This paper investigates unitaries which can be carried out using less prior entanglement and classical communication than are needed for teleportation. Large families of such unitaries are constructed using (projective) representations of finite groups. Among the tools employed are: a diagrammatic approach for representing entangled states, a theorem on the necessary absence of information at certain tim…
We analyze approximate transformations of pure entangled quantum states by local operations and classical communication, finding explicit conversion strategies which optimize the fidelity of transformation. These results allow us to determine the most faithful teleportation strategy via an initially shared partially entangled pure state. They also show that procedures for entanglement manipulation such as entanglement catalysis [Jonathan and Plenio, Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 3566 (1999)] are robust against perturbation of the states involved, and motivate the notion of non-local fidelity, which qua…
We investigate which bipartite quantum states admit a symmetric extension and apply the results in the analysis of noise thresholds in quantum key distribution protocols with two-way postprocessing. We find that states that admit a symmetric extension can be decomposed into a convex combination of states that admit a_pure_ symmetric extension. For a state to have a pure symmetric extension, its nonzero eigenvalues must be equal to the nonzero eigenvalues of one of the subsystems. While this does not fully characterize the set of states with a pure symmetric extension in all dimensions, it is a…
We propose a particular encoding for bipartite entangled states derived from multipartite cluster-type entangled coherent states (CTECSs). We investigate the effects of amplitude damping on the entanglement content of this bipartite state, as well as its usefulness as a quantum channel for teleportation. We find interesting relationships among the amplitude of the coherent states constituting the CTECSs, the number of subsystems forming the logical qubits (redundancy), and the extent to which amplitude damping affects the entanglement of the channel. For instance, in the sense of sudden death …
We describe a protocol for distilling maximally entangled bipartite states between random pairs of parties from those sharing a tripartite W state, and show that, rather surprisingly, the total distillation rate (the total number of EPR pairs distilled per W, irrespective of who shares them) may be done at a higher rate than distillation of bipartite entanglement between specified pairs of parties. Specifically, the optimal distillation rate for specified entanglement for the W has been previously shown to be the asymptotic entanglement of assistance of 0.92 EPR pairs per W, while our protocol…
Ideal quantum teleportation transfers an unknown quantum state intact from one party Alice to the other Bob via the use of a maximally entangled state and the communication of classical information. If Alice and Bob do not share entanglement, the maximal average fidelity between the state to be teleported and the state received, according to a classical measure-and-prepare scheme, is upper bounded by a function $f_{\mathrm{c}}$ that is inversely proportional to the Hilbert space dimension. In fact, even if they share entanglement, the so-called teleportation fidelity may still be less than the…
We develop a concept of entanglement percolation for long-distance singlet generation in quantum networks with neighboring nodes connected by partially entangled bipartite mixed states. We give a necessary and sufficient condition on the class of mixed network states for the generation of singlets. States beyond this class are insufficient for entanglement percolation. We find that neighboring nodes are required to be connected by multiple partially entangled states and devise a rich variety of distillation protocols for the conversion of these states into singlets. These distillation protocol…
The concept of entanglement splitting is introduced by asking whether it is possible for a party possessing half of a pure bipartite quantum state to transfer some of his entanglement with the other party to a third party. We describe the unitary local transformation for symmetric and isotropic splitting of a singlet into two branches that leads to the highest entanglement of the output. The capacity of the resulting quantum channels is discussed. Using the same transformation for less than maximally entangled pure states, the entanglement of the resulting states is found. We discuss whether t…
Some of the asymmetric three qubit $W$ states are used for perfect teleportation, superdense coding and quantum information splitting. We present the protocols for the optimal distillation of the asymmetric as well as the symmetric $W$ states from a single copy of any three qubit $W$ class pure state.
A complementary behavior between local mutual information and average output entanglement is derived for arbitrary bipartite ensembles. This leads to bounds on the yield of entanglement in distillation protocols that involve disinguishing. This bound is saturated in the hashing protocol for distillation, for Bell-diagonal states.
We construct a class of topological quantum codes to perform quantum entanglement distillation. These codes implement the whole Clifford group of unitary operations in a fully topological manner and without selective addressing of qubits. This allows us to extend their application also to quantum teleportation, dense coding and computation with magic states.
It is shown that by means of local interactions between a quantized relativistic field and a pair of non-entangled atoms, entanglement can be extracted from the vacuum and delivered to the atoms. The resulting mixed state of the atoms can be further distilled to EPR pairs. Therefore, in principle, teleportation and other entanglement assisted quantum communication tasks can rely on the vacuum alone as a resource for entanglement.
We theoretically study bipartite entanglement purification with neutral atoms via cavity-assistant interaction and linear optical elements. We focus on entanglement distillation and the recurrence protocol, whose performances under idealized and realistic conditions are discussed. The implementation of these purification protocols has been tested with numerical simulations. We analyze the performance and stability of all required operations and emphasize that all techniques are feasible with current experimental technology.
Recently, the authors [arXiv quant-ph 1209.3706] studied quantum discord for Werner mixed states based on the four entangled coherent states, which are used for quantum teleportation of single qubit information encoded in superposed coherent state and compared it with entanglement of formation. In the present paper, we consider two more general bipartite superposed coherent states and get two quasi-Werner states. We study quantum discord and entanglement of formation for these states and compare them.
