Entanglement shared between the two ends of a quantum communication channel has been shown to be a useful resource in increasing both the quantum and classical capacities for these channels. The entanglement-assisted capacities were derived assuming an unlimited amount of shared entanglement per channel use. In this paper, bounds are derived on the minimum amount of entanglement required per use of a channel, in order to asymptotically achieve the capacity. This is achieved by introducing a class of entanglement-assisted quantum codes. Codes for classes of qubit channels are shown to achieve the quantum entanglement-assisted channel capacity when an amount of shared entanglement per channel given by, E = 1 - Q_E, is provided. It is also shown that for very noisy channels, as the capacities become small, the amount of required entanglement converges for the classical and quantum capacities.
Following initial work by Gregoratti and Werner [J. Mod. Optics 50, 913-933, 2003 and quant-ph/0403092] and Hayden and King [quant-ph/0409026], we study the problem of the capacity of a quantum channel assisted by a "friendly (channel) environment" that can locally measure and communicate classical messages to the receiver. Previous work [quant-ph/0505038] has yielded a capacity formula for the quantum capacity under this kind of help from the environment. Here we study the problem of the environment-assisted classical capacity, which exhibits a somewhat richer structure (at least, it seems to…
We consider classical message transmission under entanglement assistance for compound memoryless and arbitrarily varying quantum channels. In both cases, we prove general coding theorems together with corresponding weak converse bounds. In this way, we obtain single-letter characterizations of the entanglement-assisted classical capacities for both channel models. Moreover, we show that the entanglement-assisted classical capacity does exhibit no strong converse property for some compound quantum channels for the average as well as the maximal error criterion. A strong converse to the entangle…
We consider quantum key distribution (QKD) and entanglement distribution using a single-sender multiple-receiver pure-loss bosonic broadcast channel. We determine the unconstrained capacity region for the distillation of bipartite entanglement and secret key between the sender and each receiver, whenever they are allowed arbitrary public classical communication. A practical implication of our result is that the capacity region demonstrated drastically improves upon rates achievable using a naive time-sharing strategy, which has been employed in previously demonstrated network QKD systems. We s…
We analyze the optimal basis for generating the maximum relative entropy of quantum coherence by an arbitrary gate on a two-qubit system. The optimal basis is not unique, and the high quantum coherence generating gates are also typically high entanglement generating ones and vice versa. However, the profile of the relative frequencies of Haar random unitaries generating different amounts of entanglement for a fixed amount of quantum coherence is different from the one in which the roles of entanglement and quantum coherence are reversed, although both follow the beta distribution.
We study universal quantum codes for entanglement-assisted quantum communication over compound quantum channels. In this setting, sender and receiver do not know the specific channel that will be used for communication, but only know the set that the channel is selected from. We investigate different variations of the problem: uninformed users, informed receiver, informed sender, and feedback assistance. We derive single-letter formulas for all corresponding channel capacities. Our proofs are based on one-shot decoupling bounds and properties of smooth entropies.

The entanglement-assisted classical capacity of a quantum channel is known to provide the formal quantum generalization of Shannon's classical channel capacity theorem, in the sense that it admits a single-letter characterization in terms of the quantum mutual information and does not increase in the presence of a noiseless quantum feedback channel from receiver to sender. In this work, we investigate second-order asymptotics of the entanglement-assisted classical communication task. That is, we consider how quickly the rates of entanglement-assisted codes converge to the entanglement-assisted…
We use the noisy entanglement-assisted classical capacity formula [arXiv:1609.08592] to create a coherent-attack security framework for Gaussian two-way quantum key distribution protocols in the asymptotic region.
Having protected quantum information is essential to perform quantum computations. One possibility is to reduce the number of particles needing to be protected from noise and instead use systems with more states, so called qudit quantum computers. In this paper we show that codes for these systems can be derived from already known codes, and in particular this procedure removes the need for shared entanglement in entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes, which is a result which could prove to be useful for fault-tolerant qudit, and even qubit, quantum computers.
Coherence and entanglement are fundamental concepts in resource theory. The coherence (entanglement) of assistance is the coherence (entanglement) that can be extracted assisted by another party with local measurement and classical communication. We introduce and study the general coherence of assistance. First, in terms of real symmetric concave functions on the probability simplex, the coherence of assistance and the entanglement of assistance are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence. We then introduce two classes of quantum states: the assisted maximally coherent states and the assisted…
We discuss quantum capacities for two types of entanglement networks: $\mathcal{Q}$ for the quantum repeater network with free classical communication, and $\mathcal{R}$ for the tensor network as the rank of the linear operation represented by the tensor network. We find that $\mathcal{Q}$ always equals $\mathcal{R}$ in the regularized case for the samenetwork graph. However, the relationships between the corresponding one-shot capacities $\mathcal{Q}_1$ and $\mathcal{R}_1$ are more complicated, and the min-cut upper bound is in general not achievable. We show that the tensor network can be vi…

We introduce a probabilistic version of the one-shot quantum dense coding protocol in both two- and multiport scenarios, and refer to it as conclusive quantum dense coding. Specifically, we analyze the corresponding capacities of two-qubit, two-qutrit, and three-qubit shared states. We identify cases where Pauli and generalized Pauli operators are not sufficient as encoders to attain the optimal one-shot conclusive quantum dense coding capacities. We find that there is a rich connection between the capacities, and the bipartite and multipartite entanglements of the shared state.
