It has been shown theoretically that a light amplifier working on the physical principle of stimulated emission should achieve optimal quantum cloning of the polarization state of light. We demonstrate close-to-optimal universal quantum cloning of polarization in a standard fiber amplifier for telecom wavelengths. For cloning 1 --> 2 we find a fidelity of 0.82, the optimal value being 5/6 = 0.83.

We investigate the frequency-resolved intensity noise spectrum of an Yb-doped fiber amplifier down to the fundamental limit of quantum noise. We focus on the kHz and low MHz frequency regime with special interest in the region between 1 and 10 kHz. Intensity noise levels up to >60 dB above the shot noise limit are found, revealing great optimization potential. Additionally, two seed lasers with different noise characteristics were amplified, showing that the seed source has a significant impact and should be considered in the design of high power fiber amplifiers.
We describe a fiber Raman amplifier for nanosecond and sub-nanosecond pulses centered around 1260 nm. The amplification takes place inside a 4.5-m-long polarization-maintaining phosphorus-doped fiber, pumped at 1080 nm by 3-ns-long pulses with a repetition rate of 200 kHz and up to 1.75 kW peak power. The input seed pulses are of sub-mW peak-power and minimal duration of 0.25 ns, carved off a continuous-wave laser with sub-MHz linewidth. We obtain linearly-polarized output pulses with peak-powers of up to 1.4 kW, corresponding to peak-power conversion efficiency of over 80%. An ultrahigh small…
The squeezed states of light become more and more important in the fields of quantum enhanced precision measurement and quantum information. To get this vital continuous variable quantum resource, the generation of squeezed states of light becomes a key factor. In this paper, a compact telecom fiber-based bright squeezed light (BSL) generator is demonstrated. To our knowledge, this is the first time that BSL has been reported in a fiber-based system to date. To obtain the BSL, a double-pass parametric amplifier based on surface-coated lithium niobate waveguide is employed. When the 1550 nm see…
We consider all-optical network evolution from a quantum perspective. We show that a use of optimal quantum receivers allows an estimated $55\%$ decrease in energy consumption of all-optical amplifiers in network configurations that are typical today. We then compare data transmission capacities of quantum receivers with today's technology operating within the boundaries set by Shannon. We find that quantum receiver technology allows for a logarithmic scaling of the system capacity with the baud-rate, while Shannon-type systems are limited by the transmit power. Thus a natural quantum limit of…
