The inhomogeneous single-, two- and three-boson realizations of the more general polynomial angular momentum algebra SU_n(2) are obtained from the Fock representations of SU_n(2) that corresponds to the indecomposable representation on the space of universal enveloping algebra U(SU_n(2)) and to the induced representations on the quotient spaces U(SU_n(2))/I_i, with I_i being some left ideals of U(SU_n(2)).
Boson realizations map operators and states of groups to transformations and states of bosonic systems. We devise a graph-theoretic algorithm to construct the boson realizations of the canonical SU$(n)$ basis states, which reduce the canonical subgroup chain, for arbitrary $n$. The boson realizations are employed to construct $\mathcal{D}$-functions, which are the matrix elements of arbitrary irreducible representations, of SU$(n)$ in the canonical basis. We demonstrate that our $\mathcal{D}$-function algorithm offers significant advantage over the two competing procedures, namely factorizatio…
An optical realization of the tunneling dynamics of two interacting bosons in a double-well potential, based on light transport in a four-core microstructured fiber, is proposed. The optical setting enables to visualize in a purely classical system the entire crossover from Rabi oscillations to correlated pair tunneling and to tunneling of a fragmented pair in the fermionization limit.
For optical Raman coherent effect we introduce the atomic coherent state (or the angular momentum coherent state with various angular momemtum values) in Schwinger bosonic realization, they are the eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian describing the Raman effect. Similar to the fact that the photon coherent state describes laser light, the atomic coherent state is related to Raman process.
We propose a new method for efficient storage and recall of non-stationary light fields, e.g. single photon time-bin qubits, in optically dense atomic ensembles. Our approach to quantum memory is based on controlled, reversible, inhomogeneous broadening. We briefly discuss experimental realizations of our proposal.
Ultracold bosons in a triangular lattice are a promising candidate for observing quantum spin liquid behavior. Here we investigate, for such system, the role of a harmonic trap giving rise to an inhomogeneous density. We construct a modified spin-wave theory for arbitrary filling, and predict the breakdown of order for certain values of the lattice anisotropy. These regimes, identified with the spin liquid phases, are found to be quite robust upon changes in the filling factor. This result is backed by an exact diagonalization study on a small lattice.
Quadratic algebras of the type $\lsb Q_0, Q_\pm \rsb$ $=$ $\pm Q_\pm$, $\lsb Q_+, Q_- \rsb$ $=$ $aQ_0^2 + bQ_0 + c$ are studied using three-mode bosonic realizations. Matrix representations and single variable differential operator realizations are obtained. Examples of physical relevance of such algebras are given.
A $γ$-deformed version of $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ algebra has been obtained from a bi-orthogonal system of vectors in $\bf{C^2}$. Fusion of Jordan-Schwinger realization of complexified $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ with Dyson-Maleev representation gives a 3-boson realization of Higgs algebra of cubic polynomial type. The non-hermitian Hamiltonian thus obtained is found to have real eigenvalues and eigen states with symmetry induced orthogonality. The notion of partial ${\mathcal {PT}}$-symmetry (henceforth $\partial_{\mathcal { PT}}$) has been introduced as a characteristic feature of these multi-boson realiz…
The boson sampling problem has triggered a lot of interest in the scientific community because of its potential of demonstrating the computational power of quantum interference without the need of non-linear processes. However, the intractability of such a problem with any classical device relies on the realization of single photons approximately identical in their spectra. In this paper we discuss the physics of boson sampling with non-identical single photon sources, which is strongly relevant in view of scalable experimental realizations and triggers fascinating questions in complexity theo…
We show that dipolar bosons and fermions confined in a quasi-one-dimensional ring trap exhibit a rich variety of states because their interaction is inhomogeneous. For purely repulsive interactions, with increasing strength of the dipolar coupling there is a crossover from a gas-like state to an inhomogeneous crystal-like one. For small enough angles between the dipoles and the plane of the ring, there are regions with attractive interactions, and clustered states can form.
Eigenvalues and eigenfunction of two-boson 2x2 Hamiltonians in the framework of the superalgebra osp(2,1) are determined by presenting a similarity transformation. The Hamiltonians include two bosons and one fermion have been transformed in the form of the one variable differential equations and the conditions for its solvability have been discussed. It is observed that the Hamiltonians of the various physical systems can be written in terms of the generators of the osp(2,1) superalgebra and under some certain conditions their eigenstates can exactly be obtained. In particular, the procedure g…
In this paper we propose the realization of a bosonic-fermionic interaction in the context of trapped ions whose effect upon the ion center of mass degrees of freedom is properly speaking a spatial inversion. The physical system and its features are accurately described and some applications are briefly discussed.
We determine the ground state properties of inhomogeneous mixtures of bosons and fermions in cubic lattices by studying the Bose-Fermi Hubbard model including parabolic confining potentials. We present the exact solution in the limit of vanishing hopping (ultradeep lattices) and study the resulting domain structure of composite particles. For finite hopping we determine the domain boundaries between Mott-insulator plateaux and hopping-dominated regions for lattices of arbitrary dimensionality within perturbation theory. The results are compared with a new numerical method that is based on a Gu…
The concept of topological phases is a powerful framework to characterize ground states of quantum many-body systems that goes beyond the paradigm of symmetry breaking. While a few topological phases appear in condensed matter systems, a current challenge is the implementation and study of such quantum many-body ground states in artificial matter. Here, we report the experimental realization of a symmetry protected topological phase of interacting bosons in a one-dimensional lattice, and demonstrate a robust ground state degeneracy attributed to protected edge states. The setup is based on ato…
We present exact expressions for the quantum sloshing of Bose-Einstein condensates in a tilted two-well potential. Tunneling is suppressed by a small potential difference between wells, or tilt. However, tunneling resonances occur for critical values of the tilt when the barrier is high. At resonance, tunneling times on the order of 10-100 ms are possible. Furthermore, such tilted resonances lead to a dynamical scheme for creating few-body NOON-like macroscopic superposition states which are protected by the many body wavefunction against potential fluctuations.
Topological states of interacting many-body systems are at the focus of current research due to the exotic properties of their elementary excitations. In this paper we suggest a realistic experimental setup for the realization of a simple version of such a phase. We show how delta-interacting bosons hopping on the links of a one-dimensional (1D) ladder can be used to simulate the thin-torus-limit of the two-dimensional (2D) Hofstadter-Hubbard model at one-quarter magnetic flux per plaquette. Bosons can be confined to ladders by optical superlattices, and synthetic magnetic fields can be realiz…
The Gardiner's phonon presented for a particle-number conserving approximation method to describe the dynamics of Bose-Einstein Condesation (BEC) (C.W. Gardiner, Phys. Rev. A 56, 1414 (1997)) is shown to be a physical realization of the $q$-deformed boson, which was abstractly developed in quantum group theory. On this observation, the coherent output of BEC atoms driven by a radio frequency (r.f) field is analyzed in the viewpoint of a $q$-deformed Fock space. It is illustrated that the $q$-deformation of bosonic commutation relation corresponds to the non-ideal BEC with the finite particle n…
This paper is a continuation and elaboration of our brief notice quant-ph/0206057 (Nucl. Phys. B, 1968, 7, 79) where some approach to the variable-mass problem was proposed. Here we have found a definite realization of irreducible representations of the inhomogeneous group P(1,n), the group of translations and rotations in (1+n)-dimensional Minkowski space, in two classes (when P_0^2-P_k^2>0 and P_0^2-P_k^2<0). All P(1,n)-invariant equations of the Schrodinger-Foldy type are written down. Some equations of physical interpretation of the quantal scheme based on the inhomogeneous de Sitter group…
In this paper various representations of the exceptional Lie algebra G_2 are investigated in a purely algebraic manner, and multi-boson/multi-fermion realizations are obtained. Matrix elements of the master representation, which is defined on the space of the universal enveloping algebra of G_2, are explicitly determined. From this master representation, different indecomposable representations defined on invariant subspaces or quotient spaces with respect to these invariant subspaces are discussed. Especially, the elementary representations of G_2 are investigated in detail, and the correspon…
We propose the method for optical visualization of Bose-Hubbard model with two interacting bosons in the form of two-dimensional (2D) optical lattices consisting of optical waveguides, where the waveguides at the diagonal are characterized by different refractive index than others elsewhere, modeling the boson-boson interaction. We study the light intensity distribution function averaged over direction of propagation for both ordered and disordered cases, exploring sensitivity of the averaged picture with respect to the beam injection position. For our finite systems the resulting patterns rem…

Composite bosons, here called {\it quasibosons} (e.g. mesons, excitons, etc.), occur in various physical situations. Quasibosons differ from bosons or fermions as their creation and annihilation operators obey non-standard commutation relations, even for the "fermion+fermion" composites. Our aim is to realize the operator algebra of quasibosons composed of two fermions or two q-fermions (q-deformed fermions) by the respective operators of deformed oscillators, the widely studied objects. For this, the restrictions on quasiboson creation/annihilation operators and on the deformed oscillator (de…
