A doubled q-Fock space is constructed by introducing an idle mode system dual to the physical one under consideration. The quantum entanglements of photons in the squeezed states and thermal states based on the doubled q-Fock space are discussed.
We show that initially localized and uncorrelated two-particles quantum wavepackets evolving in a one-dimensional discrete lattice become strongly entangled while drifting under the action of an harmonic AC field resonant with doubled Bloch oscillations promoted by a static DC field. Although partial entanglement is achieved when the AC field is resonant with the single-particle Bloch oscillations, it is strongly limited by the survival of anti-correlated unbounded states. We further show that the phase dependence of the wavepacket centroid velocity is similar to the semiclassical behavior dep…
The relation between the correlation energy and the entanglement is analytically constructed for the Moshinsky's model of two coupled harmonic oscillators. It turns out that the two quantities are far to be proportional, even at very small couplings. A comparison is made also with the 2-point Ising model.
Density matrices of pure multiphoton Fock polarization states and of arising from them reduced density matrices of mixed states are expressed in similar ways in terms of matrices of correlators defined as averaged products of equal numbers of creation and annihilation operators. Degree of entanglement of considered states is evaluated for various combinations of parameters of states and character of their reduction.
A scheme for preparation of coherent superposition of Fock states of electromagnetic field is constructed. The superposition state is created inside the cavity via a strong interaction of a four-level atom with quantum field of the cavity and classic laser fields. We demonstrate the possibility to create desired arbitrary superposition of the cavity Fock states just by changing the relative delay of the fields. Then, as another application of our model, we study a means of creating entanglement of neutral four-level atoms using different sequences of interactions with the cavity and laser fiel…
We demonstrate a Fock-state filter which is capable of preferentially blocking single photons over photon pairs. The large conditional nonlinearities are based on higher-order quantum interference, using linear optics, an ancilla photon, and measurement. We demonstrate that the filter acts coherently by using it to convert unentangled photon pairs to a path-entangled state. We quantify the degree of entanglement by transforming the path information to polarisation information, applying quantum state tomography we measure a tangle of T=(20+/-9)%.
Recent results, extending the Schmidt decomposition theorem to wavefunctions of identical particles, are reviewed. They are used to give a definition of reduced density operators in the case of two identical particles. Next, a method is discussed to calculate time averaged entanglement. It is applied to a pair of identical electrons in an otherwise empty band of the Hubbard model, and to a pair of bosons in the the Bose-Hubbard model with infinite range hopping. The effect of degeneracy of the spectrum of the Hamiltonian on the average entanglement is emphasised.
The so-called entanglement with vacuum is not a property of the Fock space, but of some rather pathological representations of CCR/CAR algebras. In some other Fock space representations the notion simply does not exist. We have checked all the main Gedanken experiments where the notion of entanglement with vacuum was used, and found that all the calculations could be performed at a representation-independent level. In particular any such experiment can be formulated in a Fock-space representation where the notion of entanglement with vacuum is meaningless. So, for the moment there is no single…
We discuss some features of the dissipative quantum model of brain in the frame of the formalism of quantum dissipation. Such a formalism is based on the doubling of the system degrees of freedom. We show that the doubled modes account for the quantum noise in the fluctuating random force in the system-environment coupling. Remarkably, such a noise manifests itself through the coherent structure of the system ground state. The entanglement of the system modes with the doubled modes is shown to be permanent in the infinite volume limit. In such a limit the trajectories in the memory space are c…
Copying the quantum states is contradictory to classical information processing since the fundamental difference between classical and quantum information is that while classical information can be copied perfectly, quantum information cannot. However, this statement does not rule out the risk of building a device that can reproduce a set of quantum states. This paper investigates the naturally arising question of how well or under what conditions one can copy and measure an arbitrary quantum superposition of states. The CNOT and XOR operation-based quantum circuit is presented that exhibits e…
We propose a very simple scheme to test the quantum enatanglement swapping in a priori. In the scheme, we only assume the photon detector can distinguish the vacuum and non-vacuum Fock state rather than the exact Fock number states.
After analysing the main quantum secret sharing protocol based on the entanglement states, we propose an idea to directly encode the qubit of quantum key distributions, and then present a quantum secret sharing scheme where only product states are employed. As entanglement, especially the inaccessable multi-entangled state, is not necessary in the present quantum secret sharing protocol, it may be more applicable when the number of the parties of secret sharing is large. Its theoretic efficiency is also doubled to approach 100%.
Anyon condensation forms a mechanism which allows to relate different topological phases. We study anyon condensation in the framework of Projected Entangled Pair States (PEPS) where topological order is characterized through local symmetries of the entanglement. We show that anyon condensation is in one-to-one correspondence to the behavior of the virtual entanglement state at the boundary (i.e., the entanglement spectrum) under those symmetries, which encompasses both symmetry breaking and symmetry protected (SPT) order, and we use this to characterize all anyon condensations for abelian dou…
The problem of on-demand generation of entanglement between single-atom qubits via a common photonic channel is examined within the framework of optical interferometry. As expected, for a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with coherent laser beam as input, a high-finesse optical cavity is required to overcome sensitivity to spontaneous emission. We show, however, that with a twin-Fock input, useful entanglement can in principle be created without cavity-enhancement. Both approaches require single-photon resolving detectors, and best results would be obtained by combining both cavity-feedback and twi…
Following the lead of Cochrane, Milburn, and Munro [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 62}, 062307 (2000)], we investigate theoretically quantum teleportation by means of the number-sum and phase-difference variables. We study Fock-state entanglement generated by a beam splitter and show that two-mode Fock-state inputs can be entangled by a beam splitter into close approximations of maximally entangled eigenstates of the phase difference and the photon-number sum (Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen -- EPR -- states). Such states could be experimentally feasible with on-demand single-photon sources. We show that the telep…
We propose a generalization of the usual SLOCC and LU classification of entangled pure state fermionic systems based on the Spin group. Our generalization uses the fact that there is a representation of this group acting on the fermionic Fock space which when restricted to fixed particle number subspaces recovers naturally the usual SLOCC transformations. The new ingredient is the occurrence of Bogoliubov transformations of the whole Fock space changing the particle number. The classification scheme built on the Spin group prohibits naturally entanglement between states containing even and odd…
We study the interpolation from occupation number Fock states to Schrödinger cat states on systems modeled by two-mode Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian, like, for instance, bosons in a double well or superconducting Cooper pair boxes. In the repulsive interaction regime, by a simplified single particle description, we calculate, analytically, energy, number fluctuations, stability under coupling to a heat bath, entanglement entropy and Fisher information, all in terms of hypergeometric polynomials of the single particle overlap parameter. Our approach allows us to find how those quantities scale with …
Entanglement in random states has turned into a useful approach to quantum thermalization and black hole physics. In this article, we refine and extend the `random unitaries framework' to quantum field theories (QFT), and to include conserved charges. We show that in QFT, the connection between typical states, reduced subsystems and thermal dynamics is more transparent within the Fock basis. We provide generic formulae for the typical reduced density matrices and entanglement entropies of any given subset of particles. To illustrate our methods, we apply the generic framework to the simplest b…
We formulate a new ``Wigner characteristics'' based method to calculate entanglement entropies of subsystems of Fermions using Keldysh field theory. This bypasses the requirements of working with complicated manifolds for calculating Rényi entropies for many body systems. We provide an exact analytic formula for Rényi and von-Neumann entanglement entropies of non-interacting open quantum systems, which are initialised in arbitrary Fock states. We use this formalism to look at entanglement entropies of momentum Fock states of one-dimensional Fermions. We show that the entanglement entropy of a …
Here we show how the Minimally Entangled States (MES) of a 2d system with topological order can be identified using the geometric measure of entanglement. We show this by minimizing this measure for the doubled semion, doubled Fibonacci and toric code models on a torus with non-trivial topological partitions. Our calculations are done either quasi-exactly for small system sizes, or using the tensor network approach in [R. Orus, T.-C. Wei, O. Buerschaper, A. Garcia-Saez, arXiv:1406.0585] for large sizes. As a byproduct of our methods, we see that the minimisation of the geometric entanglement c…
We consider a bosonic Josephson junction made of $N$ ultracold and dilute atoms confined by a quasi one-dimensional double-well potential within the two-site Bose-Hubbard model framework. The behaviour of the system is investigated at zero temperature by varying the inter-atomic interaction from the strongly attractive regime to the repulsive one. We show that the ground-state exhibits a crossover from a macroscopic Schrödinger-cat state to a separable Fock state through an atomic coherent regime. By diagonalizing the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian we characterize the emergence of the mascroscopic c…
We consider the evolution of a two-mode system of bosons under the action of a Hamiltonian that generates linear SU(2) transformations. The Hamiltonian is generic in that it represents a host of entanglement mechanisms, which can thus be treated in a unified way. We start by solving the quantum dynamics analytically when the system is initially in a Fock state. We show how the two modes get entangled by evolution to produce a coherent superposition of vortex states in general, and a single vortex state under certain conditions. The degree of entanglement between the modes is measured by findin…
Generic quantum states in the Hilbert space of a many body system are nearly maximally entangled whereas low energy physical states are not; the so-called area laws for quantum entanglement are widespread. In this paper we introduce the novel concept of entanglement susceptibility by expanding the 2-Renyi entropy in the boundary couplings. We show how this concept leads to the emergence of area laws for bi-partite quantum entanglement in systems ruled by local gapped Hamiltonians. Entanglement susceptibility also captures quantitatively which violations one should expect when the system become…
The problem of long-distance teleportation of single-atom qubits via a common photonic channel is examined within the framework of a Mach-Zender optical interferometer. As expected, when a coherent state is used as input, a high-finesse optical cavity is required to overcome sensitivity to spontaneous emission. However, we find that a number-squeezed light field in a twin-Fock state can in principle create useful entanglement without cavity-enhancement. Both approaches require single photon counting detectors, and best results are obtained by combining cavity-feedback with twin-fock inputs. Su…
In quantum chemistry calculations, the correlation energy is defined as the difference between the Hartree-Fock limit energy and the exact solution of the nonrelativistic Schrodinger equation. With this definition, the electron correlation effects are not directly observable. In this report, we show that the entanglement can be used as an alternative measure of the electron correlation in quantum chemistry calculations. Entanglement is directly observable and it is one of the most striking properties of quantum mechanics. As an example we calculate the entanglement for He atom and H2 molecule …
We study the relation between quantum entanglement and electron correlation in quantum chemistry calculations. We prove that the Hartree-Fock (HF) wave function does not violate Bell's inequality, thus is not entangled while the configuration interaction (CI) wave function is entangled since it violates Bell's inequality. Entanglement is related to electron correlation and might be used as an alternative measure of the electron correlation in quantum chemistry calculations. As an example we show the calculations of entanglement for the H$_2$ molecule and how it is related to electron correlati…
We discuss a model comprising two coupled nonlinear oscillators (Kerr-like nonlinear coupler) with one of them pumped by an external coherent excitation. Applying the method of nonlinear quantum scissors we show that the quantum evolution of the coupler can be closed within a finite set of n-photon Fock states. Moreover, we show that the system is able to generate Bell-like states and, as a consequence, the coupler discussed behaves as a two-qubit system. We also analyze the effects of dissipation on entanglement of formation parametrized by concurrence.
The spin-boson model is analytically studied using displaced Fock states (DFS) without discretization of the continuum bath. In the orthogonal displaced Fock basis, the ground-state wavefunction can be systematically improved in a controllable way. Interestingly, the zeroth-order DFS reproduces exactly the well known Silbey-Harris results. In the framework of the second-order DFS, the magnetization and the entanglement entropy are exactly calculated. It is found that the magnetic critical exponent $β$ is converged to $0.5$ in the whole sub-Ohmic bath regime $0<s<1$, compared with that by the e…
We introduce an extended class of cross-Toeplitz operators which act between Fock--Segal--Bargmann spaces with different weights. It is natural to consider these operators in the framework of representation theory of the Heisenberg group. Our main technique is representation of cross-Toeplitz by two-sided relative convolutions from the Heisenberg group. In turn, two-sided convolutions are reduced to usual (one-sided) convolutions on the Heisenberg group of the doubled dimensionality. This allows us to utilise the powerful group-representation technique of coherent states, co- and contra-varian…
We investigate the correlations that can arise between Alice and Bob in prepare-and-measure communication scenarios where the source (Alice) and the measurement device (Bob) can share prior entanglement. The paradigmatic example of such a scenario is the quantum dense coding protocol, where the communication capacity of a qudit can be doubled if a two-qudit entangled state is shared between Alice and Bob. We provide examples of correlations that actually require more general protocols based on higher-dimensional entangled states. This motivates us to investigate the set of correlations that ca…
The entanglement of the two movable mirrors in a single mode cavity field is studied in an ideal situation without thermal noise. When gn/w <<1 where g is the coupling coefficient between the mirror and the field, w is the mirror' vibration frequency and n is photon number of the cavity field, we work out Wootters concurrence of the system initially with the field in Fock number state and the two mirrors in vacuum states, and find that the states of the mirrors are entangled into space spanned by |0>,|1> via radiation pressure, though the concurrence is very small.
When a quantum particle traverses a rectangular potential created by a quantum field both photon exchange and entanglement between particle and field take place. We present analytic results for the transition amplitudes of any possible photon exchange processes for an incoming plane wave and initial Fock, thermal and coherent field states. We show that for coherent field states the entanglement correlates the particle's position to the photon number in the field instead of the particle's energy as usual. Besides entanglement formation, remarkable differences to the classical field treatment al…
We investigate the Hermitian and the non-Hermitian dynamics of the mode entanglement in two identical optical cavities coupled by a chiral mirror. By employing the non-Hermitian quantum evolution, we calculate the logarithmic negativity measure of entanglement for initially Fock, coherent and squeezed states, separately. We verify the non-conservation of mean spin for the initially coherent and squeezed states when the coupling is non-reciprocal and report the associated spin noise for each case. We examine the effects of non-conserved symmetries on the mode correlations and determine the degr…
We study the entanglement properties of a pair of two-level atoms going through a cavity one after another. The initial joint state of two successive atoms that enter the cavity is unentangled. Interactions mediated by the cavity photon field result in the final two-atom state being of a mixed entangled type. We consider the field statistics of the Fock state field, and the thermal field, respectively, inside the cavity. The entanglement of formation of the joint two-atom state is calculated for both these cases as a function of the Rabi-angle $gt$. We present a comparitive study of two-atom e…
In this paper the correlations dynamics of two atoms in the case of a micromaser-type system is investigated. Our results predict certain quasi-periodic collapse and revival phenomena for quantum discord and entanglement when the field is in Fock state and the two atoms are initially in maximally mixed state, which is a unique separable state. Our calculations also show that the oscillations of the time evolution of both quantum discord and entanglement are almost in phase and they both have similar evolution behavior in some time range. The fact reveals the consistency of quantum discord and …
We propose a feasible scheme to realize the optical entanglement of single-photon-added coherent state (SPACS) and show that, besides the Sanders entangled coherent state, the entangled SPACS also leads to new forms of hybrid entanglement of quantum Fock state and classical coherent state. We probe the essential difference of two types of hybrid entangled state (HES). This HES provides a novel link between the discrete- and the continuous-variable entanglement in a natural way.
Non-Gaussian and nonclassical states and processes are already found to be important resources for performing various tasks related to quantum gravity and quantum information processing. The effect of non-Gaussianity inducing operators on the nonclassicality of quantum states has also been studied rigorously. Considering these facts, a quantitative analysis of the nonclassical and non-Gaussian features is performed here for photon added displaced Fock state, as a test case, using a set of measures like entanglement potential, Wigner Yanese skew information, Wigner logarithmic negativity and re…
We introduce an elementary optical gate for expanding polarization entangled W states, in which every pair of photons are entangled alike. The gate is composed of a pair of 50:50 beamsplitters and ancillary photons in the two-photon Fock state. By seeding one of the photons in an $n$-photon W state into this gate, we obtain an $(n+2)$-photon W state after post-selection. This gate gives a better efficiency and a simpler implementation than previous proposals for $\rm W$-state preparation.
We investigate the properties of quantum entanglement of two-mode squeezed states interacting with linear baths with general gain and loss parameters. By explicitly solving for ρfrom the master equation, we determine analytical expressions of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of ρ^{T_A} (the partial transposition of density matrix ρ). In Fock space, ρ^{T_A} is shown to maintain a block diagonal structure as the system evolves. In addition, we discover that the decoherence induced by the baths would break the degeneracy of ρ^{T_A}, and leads to a novel set of eigenvectors for the construction of ent…
The time dependent quantum Monte Carlo method for fermions is introduced and applied for calculation of entanglement of electrons in one-dimensional quantum dots with several spin-polarized and spin-compensated electron configurations. The rich statistics of wave functions provided by the method allows one to build reduced density matrices for each electron and to quantify the spatial entanglement using measures such as quantum entropy by treating the electrons as identical or distinguishable particles. Our results indicate that the spatial entanglement in parallel-spin configurations is rathe…
Partial transpose is an important operation for quantifying the entanglement, here we study the (partial) transpose of any single (two-mode) operators. Using the Fock-basis expansion, it is found that the transposed operator of an arbitrary operator can be obtained by replacement of a^{†}(a) by a(a^{†}) instead of c-number within normal ordering form. The transpose of displacement operator and Wigner operator are studied, from which the relation of Wigner function, characteristics function and average values such as covariance matrix are constructed between density operator and transposed dens…
We present a new paradigm in the field of cavity QED by bringing out remarkable features associated with the avoided crossing of the dressed state levels of the Jaynes Cummings model. We demonstrate how the parametric couplings, realized by a second order nonlinearity in the cavity, can turn the crossing of dressed states into avoided crossings. We show how one can generate coherence between the avoided crossing of dressed states. Such coherences result, for example, in quantum beats in the excitation probability of the qubit. The quality of quantum beats can be considerably improved by adiaba…
The dynamics of open quantum systems is generally described by a master equation, which describes the loss of information into the environment. By using a simple model of uncoupled emitters, we illustrate how the recovery of this information depends on the monitoring scheme applied to register the decay clicks. The dissipative dynamics, in this case, is described by pure-state stochastic trajectories and we examine different unravelings of the same master equation. More precisely, we demonstrate how registering the sequence of clicks from spontaneously emitted photons through a linear optical …
In the paper, we employ a wavefunction approach to investigate the evolution of a two-photon wave packet propagating in a one-dimensional waveguide coupled to the Jaynes-Cummings (JC) system. We derive and solve, both analytically and numerically, a set of equations of motion governing the quantum state of the system. That allows us to provide real-time analysis of the evolution of the wave packet two-photon joint spectrum (2PJS) and the excitation dynamics of the JC system in the course of its interaction with the two-photon pulse. We demonstrate that the 2PJS and the spectrum of the wave pac…
We determine the two mode fock state of the radiation emitted by $V$ type three level atomic systems using the method of tomography described in our previous work. Utilizing the knowledge of the atomic/two photon state we provide a complete description of the entanglement distribution in the full parameter space in the case of the $V$ system. The $V$ system shows weak entanglement and is predominantly in a mixed state in two dimensional subspace. Unlike the case of $V$ and the ladder systems, atomic state tomography of the $Λ$ system requires the measurement of anti-normal ordered operators an…
In this communication we introduce a new model which represents the interaction between an atom and two fields injected simultaneously within a cavity including the nonlinear couplers. By using the canonical transformation the model can be regarded as a generalization of several well-known models. We calculate and discuss entanglement between the tripartite system of one atom and the two cavity modes. For a short interaction time, similarities between the behavior based on our solution compared with the other simulation based on a numerical linear algebra solution of the original Hamiltonian w…
We report the experimental realization of a recently discovered quantum information protocol by Asher Peres implying an apparent non-local quantum mechanical retrodiction effect. The demonstration is carried out by applying a novel quantum optical method by which each singlet entangled state is physically implemented by a two-dimensional subspace of Fock states of a mode of the electromagnetic field, specifically the space spanned by the vacuum and the one photon state, along lines suggested recently by E. Knill et al., Nature 409, 46 (2001) and by M. Duan et al., Nature 414, 413 (2001). The s…
