Kinetics of the collisionless expansion of spherical nanoplasmas

The collisionless expansion of spherical plasmas composed of cold ions and hot electrons is analyzed using a novel kinetic model, with special emphasis on the influence of the electron dynamics. Simple, general laws are found, relating the relevant expansion features to the initial conditions of the plasma, determined from a single dimensionless parameter. A transition is identified in the behavior of the ion energy spectrum, which is monotonic only for high electron temperatures, otherwise exhibiting a local peak far from the cutoff energy.

Collisionless energy absorption in nanoplasma layer in regular and stochastic regimes

Collisionless energy absorption in 1D nanoplasma layer is considered. Straightforward classical calculation of the absorption rate in action-angle variables is presented. In regular regime the result obtained is the same as in [Zaretsky et.al., 2004], but deeper insight is possible now due to the technique used. Chirikov criterion of the chaotic absorption regime is written out. Collisionless energy absorption rate in nanoplasma layer is calculated in stochastic regime.

Ergodic model for the expansion of spherical nanoplasmas

Recently, the collisionless expansion of spherical nanoplasmas has been analyzed with a new ergodic model, clarifying the transition from hydrodynamic-like to Coulomb-explosion regimes, and providing accurate laws for the relevant features of the phenomenon. Dynamics and control of the expansion of finite-size plasmas produced in ultraintense laser-matter interactions

The strong influence of the electron dynamics provides the possibility of controlling the expansion of laser-produced plasmas by appropriately shaping the laser pulse. Study on Coulomb explosions of ion mixtures

The paper presents a theoretical work on the dynamics of Coulomb explosion for spherical nanoplasmas composed by two different ion species. Particular attention has been dedicated to study the energy spectra of the ions with the larger charge-to-mass ratio. Equilibrium probability distribution of a conductive sphere's floating charge in a collisionless, drifting Maxwellian plasma

A dust grain in a plasma has a fluctuating electric charge, and past work concludes that spherical grains in a stationary, collisionless plasma have an essentially Gaussian charge probability distribution. This paper extends that work to flowing plasmas and arbitrarily large spheres, deriving analytic charge probability distributions up to normalizing constants. We find that these distributions also have good Gaussian approximations, with analytic expressions for their mean and variance.
