We investigate the reflection and refraction behaviors of electromagnetic waves at the interface between an isotropic material and the anisotropic medium with a unique dispersion relation. We show that the refraction angle of whether phase or energy flow for $E$-polarized waves is opposite to that for $H$-polarized waves, though the dispersion relations for $E$- and $H$-polarized waves are the same in such anisotropic media. Non-Dispersive Space-Time Wave Packets Propagating in Dispersive Media

Space-time wave packets can propagate invariantly in free space with arbitrary group velocity thanks to the spatio-temporal correlation. Here it is proved that the space-time wave packets are stable in dispersive media as well and free from the spread in time caused by material dispersion. Furthermore, the law of anomalous refraction for space-time wave packets is generalized to the weakly dispersive situation. These results reveal new potential of space-time wave packets for the applications in real dispersive media.

Walk dimension for light in complex disordered media

Transport in complex systems is characterized by a fractal dimension -- the walk dimension -- that indicates the diffusive or anomalous nature of the underlying random walk process. Here we report on the experimental retrieval of this key quantity, using light waves propagating in disordered media. Diffraction-free and dispersion-free pulsed beam propagation in dispersive media

Pulsed Bessel beams of light propagating in free-space experience diffraction effects that resemble those of anomalous dispersion on pulse propagation. It is then shown that a pulsed Bessel beam in a normally dispersive material can remain diffraction- and dispersion-free due to mutual cancellation of diffraction and group velocity dispersion. The size of the Bessel transversal profile for localized transmission is determined by the dispersive properties of the material at the pulse carrier frequency.

Dissipation Effect on Optical Force and Torque near Interfaces

The Fresnel-Snell law, which is one of the fundamental laws in optics and gives insights on the behaviour of light at interfaces, is violated if there exists dissipation in the transmitting media. In order to overcome this problem, we extend the angle of refraction from a real number to a complex number. We use this complex-angle approach to analyse the behaviour of light at interfaces between lossy media and lossless media.
