Laser cooling of trapped ytterbium ions with an ultraviolet diode laser

We demonstrate an ultraviolet diode laser system for cooling of trapped ytterbium ions. The laser power and linewidth are comparable to previous systems based on resonant frequency doubling, but the system is simpler, more robust, and less expensive. We use the laser system to cool small numbers of ytterbium ions confined in a linear Paul trap. From the observed spectra, we deduce final temperatures < 270 mK.

Injection locking of a high power ultraviolet laser diode for laser cooling of ytterbium atoms

We developed a high-power laser system at a wavelength of 399 nm for laser cooling of ytterbium atoms with ultraviolet laser diodes. Frequency Stabilization of a 369 nm Diode Laser by Nonlinear Spectroscopy of Ytterbium Ions in a Discharge

We demonstrate stabilisation of an ultraviolet diode laser via Doppler free spectroscopy of Ytterbium ions in a discharge. An ultraviolet laser system for laser cooling and trapping of metastable magnesium

We report on a reliable laser system for cooling magnesium atoms in the metastable 3P manifold. The three relevant transitions coupling the 3P to the 3D manifold are near 383 nm and seperated by several hundred GHz. The laser system consists of three diode lasers at 766 nm. All lasers are frequency stabilised to a single pre-stabilised transfer cavity. The applied scheme for frequency control greatly reduces the complexity of operating three lasers combined with resonant frequency doubling stages and provides a high reliability necessary for complex atomic physics experiments.

Current-feedback-stabilized laser system for quantum simulation experiments using Yb clock transition at 578 nm

We developed a laser system for the spectroscopy of the clock transition in ytterbium (Yb) atoms at 578 nm based on an interference-filter stabilized external-cavity diode laser (IFDL) emitting at 1156 nm. Frequency stabilization of an ultraviolet laser to ions in a discharge

We stabilize an ultraviolet diode laser system at 369.5 nm to the optical absorption signal from Yb+ ions in a hollow-cathode discharge lamp. The error signal for stabilization is obtained by Zeeman spectroscopy of the 3 GHz-wide absorption feature. The frequency stability is independently measured by comparison against the fluorescence signal from a laser-cooled crystal of 174Yb+ ions in a linear Paul trap. We present a high-power tunable deep-ultraviolet (DUV) laser that uses two consecutive cavity enhanced doubling stages with LBO and CLBO crystals to produce the fourth harmonic of an amplified homebuilt external cavity diode laser.
