Plane electromagnetic wave propagating in perfect electromagnetic conductor (PEMC) is considered. Its wave number has no connection with the frequency. An interface is introduced between an ordinary isotropic medium and PEMC. The wave in PEMC is matched to plane electromagnetic wave incident normally on the interface from the ordinary medium and reflected from it. Then the plane-parallel slab made of PEMC is considered and a plane wave is found in it.
Certain classes of electromagnetic boundaries satisfying linear and local boundary conditions can be defined in terms of the dispersion equation of waves matched to the boundary. A single plane wave is matched to the boundary when it satisfies the boundary conditions identically. The wave vector of a matched wave is a solution of a dispersion equation characteristic to the boundary. The equation is of the second order, in general. Conditions for the boundary are studied under which the dispersion equation is reduced to one of the first order or to an identity, whence it is satisfied for any wa…
It is known that the two eigen plane waves incident to the generalized soft-and-hard/DB (GSHDB) boundary are reflected as from the PEC or PMC boundary, i.e., with reflection coefficients $-1$ or $+1$, for any angle of incidence. The present paper discusses a more general class of boundaries by requiring that the reflection coefficients $R_+$ and $R_-$, corresponding to the two eigen plane waves, have opposite values, $R_\pm=\pm R$ with $R$ independent of the angle of incidence. It turns out that, there are two possibilities, $R=1$ for the class of GSHDB boundaries, and $R=j$ for another class,…
The goal of this paper is to present a previously published work [1] in an errorless form. The work has studied the scattering of electromagnetic plane wave by an impedance strip placed in homogeneous isotropic chiral medium using Kobayashi Potential (KP) method; that has been an important, valuable and attractive investigation in the electromagnetic scattering, especially in KP method. Unfortunately, the study has some basic errors that prevent interesting readers from understanding the investigation. Finally, the formulation of this paper is validated by [2].
This paper focus on the theoretical analysis and simulation of electromagnetic wave transforms, which is widely encountered in teaching physics. When the electromagnetic wave is not consistent with the shape of the object, it is often necessary to introduce electromagnetic wave transforms to analyze the interaction between the two. In this paper, we discuss three common waves, namely plane wave, cylindrical wave and spherical wave. We first analyze the mathematical transformation equations between them, and then use computer programs to draw a simulation image to intuitively show the derivatio…
The most general linear and local set of boundary conditions, involving relations between the normal components of the D and B vectors and tangential components of the E and H vectors at each point of the boundary, are considered in this paper. Reflection of a plane wave from a boundary defined by general conditions in an isotropic half space is analyzed and an analytic expression for the reflection dyadic is derived. It is shown that any plane wave can be decomposed in two components which do not interact in reflection. Properties of plane waves matched to the general boundary are given. Cert…
We study the motion of a charged particle with magnetic moment in external electromagnetic fields utilizing covariant unification of Gilbertian and Amperian descriptions of particle magnetic dipole moment. Considering the case of a current loop, our approach is verified by comparing classical dynamics with the classical limit of relativistic quantum dynamics. We obtain motion of a charged particle in the presence of an external linearly polarized EM (laser) plane wave field incorporating the effect of spin dynamics. For specific laser-particle initial configurations, we determine that the Ster…
Starting with Maxwell's equations, we derive the fundamental results of the Huygens-Fresnel-Kirchhoff and Rayleigh-Sommerfeld theories of scalar diffraction and scattering. These results are then extended to cover the case of vector electromagnetic fields. The famous Sommerfeld solution to the problem of diffraction from a perfectly conducting half-plane is elaborated. Far-field scattering of plane waves from obstacles is treated in some detail, and the well-known optical cross-section theorem, which relates the scattering cross-section of an obstacle to its forward scattering amplitude, is de…
We develop a general formalism to treat reflection of spherical electromagnetic waves from a spherical surface. Our main objective is interpretation of radio wave signals produced by cosmic ray interactions with Earth's atmosphere which are observed by the Antarctica based ANITA detector after reflection off the ice surface. The incident wave is decomposed into plane waves and each plane wave is reflected off the surface using the standard Fresnel formalism. For each plane wave the reflected wave is assumed to be locally a plane wave. This is a very reasonable assumption and there are no uncon…
