IR spectra gained from laboratory investigations on analogue materials are an important tool for the interpretation of astronomical IR data and the understanding of the observed phenomena in DISM. Dust particles grown in argon/acetylene low pressure plasma are proposed for a new analog. We test the validity of proposed analog according to the criteria from the literature. We also present preliminary results of nitrogen band at 4.62 \$mu$m, which has been identified in dense cold dust.
This manuscript, presents a theoretical study of the linear and nonlinear characteristics of acoustic and drift waves in a bounded inhomogenious dusty plasma which has potential applications in space and lab environments. In this analysis, flow of all plasma particles is assumed to be along the axial direction whereas gradients in velocity are considered to be along the radial direction. First we study coupling of dust modified ion acoustic (DMA) and drift (DMD) waves (linear analysis) at fast time when dynamics of dust remain inactive, later formation of nonlinear vortex like structures are e…
The role of quantum tunneling effect in the electron accretion current onto a negatively charged grain immersed in isotropic plasma is analyzed, within the quasiclassic approximation, for different plasma electron distribution functions, plasma parameters, and grain sizes. It is shown that this contribution can be small (negligible) for relatively large (micron-sized) dust grains in plasmas with electron temperatures of the order of a few eV, but becomes important for nano-sized dust grains (tens to hundreds nm in diameter) in cold and ultracold plasmas (electron temperatures ~ tens to hundred…
A three dimensional Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation is carried out to explore the equilibrium configurations of charged dust particles. These equilibrium configuration are of astrophysical significance for the conditions of molecular clouds and the interstellar medium. The interaction among the dust grains is modeled by Yukawa repulsion and gravitational attraction. The spherically symmetric equilibria are constructed which are characterized characterized by three parameters: (i) the number of particles in the cloud, (ii) $Γ_g$ (defined in the text) where $Γ_g^{-1}$ is the short range cutof…
Laboratory experiments are essential in exploring the mechanisms involved in stardust formation. One key question is how a metal is incorporated into dust for an environment rich in elements involved in stardust formation (C, H, O, Si). To address experimentally this question we have used a radiofrequency cold plasma reactor in which cyclic organosilicon dust formation is observed. Metallic (silver) atoms were injected in the plasma during the dust nucleation phase to study their incorporation in the dust. The experiments show formation of silver nanoparticles (~15 nm) under conditions in whic…
We argue that charged dust grains could significantly impact the confinement and transport of galactic cosmic rays. For sub-GeV to ~1000GeV cosmic rays, small-scale parallel Alfvén waves, which isotropize cosmic rays through gyro-resonant interactions, are also gyro-resonant with charged grains. If the dust is nearly stationary, as in the bulk of the interstellar medium, Alfvén waves are damped by dust. This will reduce the amplitude of Alfvén waves produced by the cosmic rays through the streaming instability, thus enhancing cosmic-ray transport. In well-ionized regions, the dust damping rate…
We investigate the role of thermal instability, arising from radiative cooling of an optically thin, dusty plasma, by linear stability analysis. The corresponding isobaric stability condition for condensation mode is found to be modified significantly by the degree of ionization and concentration of finite sized, relatively heavy, and negatively charged dust particles. It has been shown that though the fundamental wave mode is similar in nature to the one in absence of dust particles, a new dust-wave mode can propagate in such a plasma. It is conjectured that the presence of negatively charged…
Complex plasmas consist of microparticles embedded in a low-temperature plasma and allow investigating various effects by tracing the motion of these microparticles. Dust density waves appear in complex plasmas as self-excited acoustic waves in the microparticle fluid at low neutral gas pressures. Here we show that various properties of these waves depend on the position of the microparticle cloud with respect to the plasma sheath and explain this finding in terms of the underlying ion-drift instability. These results may be helpful in better understanding the propagation of dust density waves…
The existence of the dust acoustic wave (DAW) in a strongly magnetized electron-positron (pair)-dust plasma is demonstrated. In the DAW, the restoring force comes from the pressure of inertialess electrons and positrons, and the dust mass provides the inertia. The waves could be of interest in astrophysical settings such as the supernovae and pulsars, as well as in cluster explosions by intense laser beams in laboratory plasmas.
The formation of dust ion-acoustic shocks (DIASs) in a four-component quantum plasma whose constituents are electrons, both positive and negative ions and immobile charged dust grains, is studied. The effects of both the dissipation due to kinematic viscosity and the dispersion caused by the charge separation as well as the quantum tunneling due to the Bohm potential are taken into account. The propagation of small but finite amplitude dust ion-acoustic waves (DIAWs) is governed by the Korteweg-de Vries-Burger (KdVB) equation which exhibits both oscillatory and monotonic shocks depending not o…
A theoretical investigation has been made to understand the mechanism of the formation of both bright and dark envelope soltions associated with dust-ion-acoustic waves (DIAWs) propagating in an unmagnetized three component dusty plasma medium having inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains, and inertialess non-thermal Cairns' distributed electrons. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is derived by employing reductive perturbation method. The effects of plasma parameters, viz., $γ_2$ (the ratio of the positive ion temperature to electron temperature times the charge state of io…
A proper theoretical research has been carried out to explore the modulational instability (MI) conditions of dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves (DIAWs) in a three-component dusty plasma system containing inertialess $κ$-distributed electrons, and inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains. The novel nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) has been derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. The analysis under consideration demonstrates two types of modes, namely, fast and slow DIA modes. The dispersion and nonlinear properties of the plasma medium, as well as the MI conditions …
A viscous dusty plasma containing Kappa distributed electrons, positive warm viscous ions and constant negatively charged dust grains with viscosity have been considered to study the modes of dust ion acoustic waves (DIAWs) theoretically and numerically. The derivations and basic features of shock and solitary waves with different plasma parameters like Mach number, finite temperature coefficient, unperturbed dust streaming velocity, kinematic viscosity of dust etc. of this DIAWs mode have been performed. Considering the dynamical equation from Korteweg de Vries(KdV) equation, a phase portrait…
The ultra low frequency modes associated to the activated dust specie in a bounded cylinder orientation plasma has been investigated here. Here flow of all plasma particles is assumed along the axial coordinates where gradients in velocity are set to be along radial direction. This analysis has been carried out for both Maxwellian and non-Maxwellian (Kappa and Carins) dusty plasma where coupling of electrostatic dust acoustic and drift modes drives global vortex formations. The coefficients of the vortex solution has been affected strongly by the presence of superthermal particles. Significanc…
Dusty plasmas play an important role in astrophysical environments such as protostellar clouds and ring systems. A computer simulation of such plasmas will be presented.
There is a quickly increasing wealth of experimental data on so-called dusty plasmas i. e. ionized gases or usual plasmas that contain micron sized charged particles. Interest in these structures is driven both by their importance in many astrophysical as well as commercial situations. Among them are linear and nonlinear wave phenomena. We consider the influence of dust charge fluctuations on stability of the ion-acoustic waves when the stream of particles is present. It is assumed that all grains of dust have equal masses but charges are not constant in time-they may fluctuate in time. The du…
