The calculations of the elastic scattering properties of ultracold-francium isotopes are reported in the detail. A parametric model potential for the triplet molecular states of the Fr$_{2}$ is represented, and the scattering lengths at and the effective range $r_{e}$ are calculated using WKB and Numerov methods for Fr-Fr in the triplet state. The convergence of these scattering properties as the depending on a $K_{0}$ parameter and core radius is also investigated using two method as Quantum Defect Theory and analytical formula of symskovisky.

We report on a theoretical analysis of the phase-shift in compact atomic clocks working either with cold or thermal atoms. It is well known that in a microwave cavity with electromagnetic losses, a traveling wave adds to the standing wave of a given resonant mode. We calculate the spatial varying phase related to this travelling wave for two geometries of interest in clock applications, the cylindrical cavity and the spherical cavity. We demonstrate steady-state, mirrorless superradiance in a cold vapor pumped by weak optical fields. Beyond a critical pump intensity of 1 mW/cm$^2$, the vapor spontaneously transforms into a spatially self-organized state: a density grating forms. Scattering of the pump beams off this grating generates a pair of new, intense optical fields that act back on the vapor to enhance the atomic organization. We map out experimentally the superradiant phase transition boundary and show that it is well-described by our theoretical model. The resulting superradiant emission is nearly coherent, persists…
We experimentally investigate the Bragg reflection of light at one-dimensionally ordered atomic structures by using cold atoms trapped in a laser standing wave. By a fine tuning of the periodicity, we reach the regime of multiple reflection due to the refractive index contrast between layers, yielding an unprecedented high reflectance efficiency of 80%. This result is explained by the occurrence of a photonic band gap in such systems, in accordance with previous predictions.
We experimentally study the photonic properties of a cold-atom sample trapped in a one-dimensional optical lattice under the conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that such a medium has two photonic band gaps. One of them is in the transparency window and gives rise to a Bragg mirror, which is spectrally very narrow and dynamically tunable. We discuss the advantages and the limitations of this system. As an illustration of a possible application we demonstrate a two-port all-optical switch.
Exchange in a Boltzmann gas of bosons with several internal states leads to collective transport of internal polarization. The internal dynamics can be understood as Larmor precession in the presence of a torque induced by atoms on each other via exchange coupling. A generalized Bloch equation that includes interatomic exchange effects as well as orbital motion in the gas is derived and used to interpret recent experiment by Lewandowski et al. as an excitation of a collective wave of internal state polarization. We describe and characterize a device for alkali vapor pressure modulation on the 100ms timescale in a single-cell cold atom experiment. Its mechanism is based on optimized heat conduction between a current-modulated alkali dispenser and a heat sink at room temperature. We have studied both the short-term behavior during individual pulses and the long-term pressure evolution in the cell. The device combines fast trap loading and relatively long trap lifetime, enabling high repetition rates in a very simple setup. These features make it particularly suitable for portable atomic sensors.
This paper is a short introduction to cold atom physics and Bose-Einstein condensation. Light forces on atoms are presented, together with laser cooling, and a few atom traps: the magneto-optical trap, dipole traps and magnetic traps. A brief description of Bose-Einstein condensation is given together with some important links with condensed matter physics. The reader is referred to comprehensive reviews and to other lecture notes for further details on atom cooling, trapping and Bose-Einstein condensation.
Photoionization of a cold atomic sample offers intriguing possibilities to observe collective effects at extremely low temperatures. Irradiation of a rubidium condensate and of cold rubidium atoms within a magneto-optical trap with laser pulses ionizing through 1-photon and 2-photon absorption processes has been performed. Losses and modifications in the density profile of the remaining trapped cold cloud or the remaining condensate sample have been examined as function of the ionizing laser parameters. We report the calculation of the interspecies scattering length for the sodium-rubidium (Na-Rb) system. We present improved hybrid potentials for the singlet $X^1Σ^+$ and triplet $a^3Σ^+$ ground states of the NaRb molecule, and calculate the singlet and triplet scattering lengths $a_{s}$ and $a_{t}$ for the isotopomers $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb and $^{23}$Na$^{85}$Rb. Using these values, we assess the prospects for producing a stable two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in the Na-Rb system.
We report an experimental study of near resonance light scattering on the $F = 1 \rightarrow F' = 0$ component of the $D_2$ line in atomic $^{87}Rb$. Experiments are performed on spatially bi-Gaussian ultracold gas samples having peak densities ranging from about $5 \cdot 10^{12} - 5 \cdot 10^{13}$ atoms/cm$^{3}$ and for a range of resonance saturation parameters and detunings from atomic resonance. We investigate inelastic collision dynamics of a single cold ion in a Bose-Einstein condensate. We observe rapid ion-atom-atom three-body recombination leading to formation of weakly bound molecular ions followed by secondary two-body molecule-atom collisions quenching the rovibrational states towards deeper binding energies. Lett. 114, 203001 (2015)] to study the rotational spectrum of a cyanide molecular anion immersed into Bose-Einstein condensates of rubidium and strontium. We review phase space techniques based on the Wigner representation that provide an approximate description of dilute ultra-cold Bose gases. In this approach the quantum field evolution can be represented using equations of motion of a similar form to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation but with stochastic modifications that include quantum effects in a controlled degree of approximation. We investigate transport dynamics of a single low-energy ionic impurity in a Bose-Einstein condensate. The impurity is implanted into the condensate starting from a single Rydberg excitation, which is ionized by a sequence of fast electric field pulses aiming to minimize the ion's initial kinetic energy. Using a small electric bias field, we study the subsequent collisional dynamics of the impurity subject to an external force. We study experimentally the critical correlation in an ultra-cold Bose gas with a temporal Talbot-Lau (TL) interferometer. Near the critical temperature, we observe a bi-modal density distribution in an ultra-cold Bose gas after the application of the TL interferometer. The measured fraction of the narrower peak in the density distribution displays a clear peak within the critical regime. The peak position agrees with the critical temperature calculated with the finite-size and interaction corrections. Microgravity eases several constraints limiting experiments with ultracold and condensed atoms on ground. It enables extended times of flight without suspension and eliminates the gravitational sag for trapped atoms. These advantages motivated numerous initiatives to adapt and operate experimental setups on microgravity platforms. We report on an improved scheme to generate Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) and degenerate Fermi gases of strontium. This scheme allows us to create quantum gases with higher atom number, a shorter time of the experimental cycle, or deeper quantum degeneracy than before. We create a BEC of 84-Sr exceeding 10^7 atoms, which is a 30-fold improvement over previously reported experiments. We increase the atom number of 86-Sr BECs to 2.5x10^4 (a fivefold improvement), and refine the generation of attractively interacting 88-Sr BECs.
