Dynamic Aperture Calculation for the Dafne-II Project

The DAFNE-II project is considered now as a possible candidate for upgrading the DAFNE electron-positron collider and improving its luminosity. 6D simulation of the DAFNE-II dynamic aperture under various assumptions (weak and strong RF focusing) is presented. Dynamic aperture is reduced as compared to the week focusing case or constant energy deviation due synchrobetatron resonances.

Dynamic Aperture Optimization for the DAFNE Upgrade

Recently proposed novel idea of "crabbed waist" beam-beam collisions will be tested at DAFNE during the collider run for the Siddharta experiment. In order to achieve the goal luminosity, large dynamic aperture is a matter of primary importance. A new method of a dynamic aperture optimization based on step-by-step chromaticity compensation with choosing the "best" sextupole pair at each step was applied to the DAFNE upgrade lattice. Several tune points were considered taking into account both high luminosity and large dynamic aperture. Algorithm and results of optimization will be presented.

Crystal slow extraction of positrons from DAFNE: the SHERPA project

The SHERPA project aim is to develop an efficient technique to extract a positron beam from one of the accelerator rings composing the DAFNE complex at the Frascati National Laboratory of INFN, setting up a new beam line able to deliver positron spills of O(ms) length, excellent beam energy spread and emittance. Crab Waist collision scheme: a novel approach for particle colliders

A new concept of nonlinear focusing of colliding bunches, called Crab Waist (CW)collision scheme, has been proposed at LNF INFN. It has been successfully tested at the Italian lepton collider DAFNE in operational conditions providing luminosity for two different experimental detectors, SIDDHARTA and KLOE-2. Dynamic aperture and space charge effect studies for the Recycler ring for Project-X

A simplified Recycler lattice was created to fine tune injection straight, ring tune, and phase trombone. In this paper, we will present detailed modifications for further optimization of Recycler lattice which requires the investigation of tune footprint and dynamic aperture based on higher order momentum components of the magnetic fields, together with the space charge effects.

Dynamic Aperture Studies for SPEAR 3

The SSRL is investigating an accelerator upgrade project to replace the present 130 nm rad FODO lattice with an 18 nm rad double bend achromat lattice: SPEAR 3. In this paper, we review the methods used to maximize the SPEAR 3 dynamic aperture including optimization of linear optics, betatron tune, chromaticity and coupling correction, and effects of machine errors and insertion devices.

Effect of the Sextupole Finite Length on Dynamic Aperture in the Collider Final Focus

In a collider final focus (FF) system chromaticity generated by FF quadrupoles is compensated by sextupole pairs with -I map in between to cancel geometrical aberrations. However, it works perfectly only for zero-length sextupole kicks; for realistic thick magnets only quadratic aberrations are cancelled exactly while higher order terms appear and may deteriorate the transverse dynamic aperture. Operational aspects of the Main Injector large aperture quadrupole (WQB)

A two-year Large Aperture Quadrupole (WQB) Project was completed in the summer of 2006 at Fermilab. Nine WQBs were designed, fabricated and bench-tested by the Technical Division. Seven of them were installed in the Main Injector and the other two for spares. They perform well. The aperture increase meets the design goal and the perturbation to the lattice is minimal. The machine acceptance in the injection and extraction regions is increased from 40pi to 60pi mm-mrad. This paper gives a brief report of the operation and performance of these magnets.

A Genetic Algorithm for Chromaticity Correction in Diffraction Limited Storage Rings

A multi-objective genetic algorithm is developed for optimizing nonlinearities in diffraction limited storage rings. This algorithm determines sextupole and octupole strengths for chromaticity correction that deliver optimized dynamic aperture and beam lifetime. The algorithm makes use of dominance constraints to breed desirable properties into the early generations.
