We report on high-resolution two-color photoassociation spectroscopy in the triplet system of magneto-optically trapped 6Li. The absolute transition frequencies have been measured. Strong optical coupling of the bound molecular states has been observed as Autler-Townes splitting in the photoassociation signal. The spontaneous bound-bound transition rate is determined and the molecule formation rate is estimated. The observed lineshapes are in good agreement with the theoretical model.
It is shown by theoretical simulation that tuning of the pump power can induce mixing and crossing of Autler-Townes(A-T)components of closely spaced transitions in atoms. Pump radiation also leads to small shifts of the central hole of A-T doublet. Off-resonance pumping gives an asymmetry in the A-T components and by controlling pump frequency detuning it is also possible to mix the A-T components.
In this paper we demonstrate the detection of millimeter waves via Autler-Townes splitting in 85Rb Rydberg atoms. This method may provide an independent, atom-based, SI-traceable method for measuring mm-wave electric fields, which addresses a gap in current calibration techniques in the mm-wave regime. The explanation is given of the broadening of doublet components with the growth of probing field intensity, which was observed in experiment. The effects of Doppler averaging are discussed.
We demonstrate the single-photon excitation spectra of cesium Rydberg atoms by means of a Doppler-free purely all-optical detection with a room-temperature vapor cell and a 319 nm ultra-violet (UV) laser. We excite atoms directly from 6S1/2 ground state to 71P3/2 Rydberg state with a narrow-linewidth 319 nm UV laser. The detection of Rydberg states is performed by monitoring the absorption of an 852 nm probe beam in a V-type three-level system. We present a technique for measuring radio-frequency (RF) electric field strengths with sub-wavelength resolution. We use Rydberg states of rubidium atoms to probe the RF field. The RF field causes an energy splitting of the Rydberg states via the Autler-Townes effect, and we detect the splitting via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). We use this technique to measure the electric field distribution inside a glass cylinder with applied RF fields at 17.04 GHz and 104.77 GHz. We investigated the Autler-Townes splitting produced by microwave transitions between atomic Rydberg states explored by optical spectroscopy from the ground electronic state. The laser-atom Hamiltonian describing the double irradiation of such a multilevel system is analysed on the basis of the Morris-Shore transformation. We experimentally investigate trap-loss spectra of the cesium 6S1/2(F=4)-71P3/2 Rydberg state by combining the cesium atomic magneto-optical trap with the narrow-linewidth, continuously-tunable 318.6 nm ultraviolet laser. That is, the atoms in the magneto-optical trap are excited to the Rydberg state due to the ultraviolet laser single-step Rydberg excitation, which leads to the reduction of atomic fluorescence. We propose quantum control protocols for the high-fidelity preparation of target states in systems with Autler-Townes splitting. We have observed the Autler-Townes doublet in a superconducting Al/AlOx/Al transmon qubit that acts as an artificial atom embedded in a three-dimensional Cu microwave cavity at a temperature of 22 mK. Using pulsed microwave spectroscopy, the three lowest transmon levels are isolated, eliminating unwanted effects of higher qubit modes and cavity modes. The long coherence time (~40 us) of the transmon enables us to observe a clear Autler-Townes splitting at drive amplitudes much smaller than the transmon level anharmonicity (177 MHz). We present the direct measurements of electric-dipole moments for $5P_{3/2}\to nD_{5/2}$ transitions with $20<n<48$ for Rubidium atoms. The measurements were performed in an ultracold sample via observation of the Autler-Townes splitting in a three-level ladder scheme, commonly used for 2-photon excitation of Rydberg states. An unexpected interference effect between four-wave mixing excitation routes in rubidium vapor is observed using a combination of a cw diode laser and a 1 GHz femtosecond pulse train. The generated coherent blue light is analyzed by scanning the diode frequency and the repetition rate of the frequency comb. In both cases, the cw laser induces an Autler-Townes splitting and a large separation is observed in the doublet structure due to the configuration of copropagating fields. The tight confinement of the evanescent light field around the waist of an optical nanofiber makes it a suitable tool for studying nonlinear optics in atomic media. Here, we use an optical nanofiber embedded in a cloud of laser-cooled 87Rb for near-infrared frequency upconversion via a resonant two-photon process. Sub-nW powers of the two-photon beams, at 780 nm and 776 nm, co-propagate through the optical nanofiber and generation of 420 nm photons is observed. We propose a general theoretical scheme to investigate the crossover from electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) to Autler-Townes splitting (ATS) in open ladder-type atomic and molecular systems with Doppler broadening. We show that when the wavenumber ratio $k_c/k_p\approx -1$, EIT, ATS, and EIT-ATS crossover exist for both ladder-I and ladder-II systems, where $k_c$ ($k_p$) is the wavenumber of control (probe) field. We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the effects of Rydberg interactions on Autler-Townes spectra of ultracold gases of atomic strontium. Realizing two-photon Rydberg excitation via a long-lived triplet state allows us to probe the thus far unexplored regime where Rydberg state decay presents the dominant decoherence mechanism. We investigate resonant strong field ionization of atomic hydrogen with respect to the 1s-2p-transition. By "strong" we understand that Rabi-periods are executed on a femtosecond time scale. Ionization and AC Stark shifts modify the bound state dynamics severely, leading to nonperturbative signatures in the photoelectron spectra. We introduce an analytical model, capable of predicting qualitative features in the photoelectron spectra such as the positions of the Autler-Townes peaks for modest field strengths. By two-color photoassociation of $^{40}$Ca four weakly bound vibrational levels in the Ca$_2$ \Xpot ground state potential were measured, using highly spin-forbidden transitions to intermediate states of the coupled system $^3Π_{u}$ and $^3Σ^+ _{u}$ near the ${^3P_1}$+${^1S_0}$ asymptote. From the observed binding energies, including the least bound state, the long range dispersion coefficients $\mathrm{C}_6, \mathrm{C}_8,\mathrm{C}_{10}$ and a precise value for the s-wave scattering length of 308.5(50)~$a_0$ were derived. We present results from two-photon photoassociative spectroscopy of the least-bound vibrational level of the X$^1Σ_g^+$ state of the $^{88}$Sr$_2$ dimer. Measurement of the binding energy allows us to determine the s-wave scattering length, $a_{88}=-1.4(6) a_0$. For the intermediate state, we use a bound level on the metastable $^1S_0$-$^3P_1$ potential, which provides large Franck-Condon transition factors and narrow one-photon photoassociative lines that are advantageous for observing quantum-optical effects such as Autler-Townes resonance splittings.
We discuss the dynamics of the two-photon resonant ionization of helium involving two autoionizing states in the presence of two-color laser fields. The first source is tuned around the transition from the ground state to the 2s2p 1Po autoionizing state, and the second couples the state 2s2p 1Po to the 2p2 1S autoionizing state. The laser coupling between the doubly excited states is shown to lead to modifications of the Beutler-Fano profile and the appearance of an Autler-Townes doublet. We study ultrafast ionization dynamics using orthogonally polarized two-color (OTC) laser pulses involving the resonant "first plus second" ($ω+2ω$) scheme. The scheme is illustrated by numerical simulations of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and recording the photoelectron momentum distribution. On the basis of the simulations of this resonant ionization, we identify signatures of the dynamic Autler-Townes effect and dynamic interference, in which their characterization is not possible in spectral domain. We derive the statistics of scattered photons from a $Λ$- or ladder-type three-level emitter (3LE) embedded in a 1D open waveguide. The weak probe photons in the waveguide are coupled to one of the two allowed transitions of the 3LE, and the other transition is driven by a control beam.
