We present a detailed study of chemical freeze-out in nucleus-nucleus collisions at beam energies of 11.6, 30, 40, 80 and 158A GeV. By analyzing hadronic multiplicities within the statistical hadronization approach, we have studied the chemical equilibration of the system as a function of center of mass energy and of the parameters of the source. Additionally, we have tested and compared different versions of the statistical model, with special emphasis on possible explanations of the observed strangeness hadronic phase space under-saturation.
A method to study event--by--event fluctuations of the `chemical' (particle type) composition of the final state of high energy collisions is proposed.}
We reanalyse the production of $p\bar{p}$ pairs in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions employing novel elementary cross sections for baryon-baryon and pion-baryon production channels based on a boson-exchange model. In contrast to previous transport studies performed in the literature the secondary pion induced channel is found to be most important in both p+A and A+A collisions at subthreshold energies. A detailed comparison with the experimental data available indicates that sizeable attractive $\bar{p}$ potentials in the order of - 100 to - 150 MeV at normal nuclear matter density…
The dynamics and the mechanisms of preequilibrium-light-particle formation in nucleus-nucleus collisions at low and intermediate energies are studied on the basis of a classical four-body model. The angular and energy distributions of light particles from such processes are calculated. It is found that, at energies below 50 MeV per nucleon, the hardest section of the energy spectrum is formed owing to the acceleration of light particles from the target by the mean field of the projectile nucleus. Good agreement with available experimental data is obtained.
We study elastic proton-nucleus scattering at intermediate energies. The nucleon-nucleus optical potential is derived from the Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential and the Dirac-Brueckner approach for nuclear matter. Our calculations, which do not contain any adjustable parameters, yield good agreement with experiment.
Introduction Theory of electromagnetic excitation and dissociation (Inelastic scattering at high energies: one-photon exchange, semiclassical approach and Glauber theory; Higher order electromagnetic effects, small xi-approximation) Discussion of experimental results for nuclear structure Coulomb dissociation as a tool to measure radiative capture processes relevant to nuclear astrophysics Antihydrogen production and electromagnetic processes at relativistic heavy ion colliders Conclusions
We calculate $K^-$-nucleus elastic differential, reaction and total cross sections for different nuclei ($^{12}$C,$^{40}$Ca and $^{208}$Pb) at several laboratory antikaon momenta, ranging from 127 MeV to 800 MeV. We use different antikaon-nucleus optical potentials, some of them fitted to kaonic atom data, and study the sensitivity of the cross sections to the considered antikaon-nucleus dynamics.
Adiabatic fusion potentials, extended well into compound nucleus region, are calculated for a number of reactions within the static Hartree-Fock method with the Skyrme SkM* interaction. The calculated fusion barriers agree quite well with the data, in spite of considerable errors in reaction Q values. This suggests some error cancellation, possibly with the relative kinetic energy term. Calculated berrier heights are consistent with the idea of fusion hindrance in tip collisions. Adiabatic potentials differ considerably from the results of the frozen density approximation. We briefly discuss r…
The HIJING and VENUS models of relativistic hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions are used to study interactions of proton and nuclei with nitrogen, specific for the extensive air shower developments initiated by cosmic rays in the atmosphere. The transverse energy, transverse momenta and secondary particles produced spectra as well as their energy and mass dependence were investigated in detail. Results are presented with particular emphasis on the contributions of minijets in HIJING model and validity of superposition models in this energy range .
We compute the modification of the quark condensate $<\bar{q} q>$ in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions and estimate the 4-volume, where the quark condensate is small ($<\bar{q}q>/<\bar{q} q>_0\leq$ 0.1--0.3) using hadron phase-space distributions obtained with the quark-gluon string model. As a function of the beam energy the 4-volume rises sharply at a beam energy $E_{lab}/A \simeq$ (2--5) GeV, remains roughly constant up to beam energies $\simeq 20$ GeV and rises at higher energies. At low energies the reduction of the condensate is mainly due to baryons, while at higher energies the r…
The revised Landau hydrodynamic model is used to discuss the pseudorapidity distributions of the produced charged particles in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at energies of sqrt(s_NN)= 19.6 and 22.4 GeV correspondingly on the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. It is found that the revised Landau hydrodynamic model alone can give a good description to the experimental measurements. This is different from that in the same collisions but at the maximum energy of sqrt(s_NN)= 200 GeV. Where, in addition to the revised Landau hydrodynamic model, the effects of leading particles have to be taken into a…
We investigate parity violation in neutron-nucleus collisions at very low energy region $(E \leq 100 \ev)$, including resonance states. We use the coupled channel formalism for resonances with radiative emission. The parity mixing between resonances with opposite parities is taken into account. Finally, our theory is applied to $n-^{139}$La collision and relevant remarks are given.
Recently developed chiral effective field theory models provide excellent descriptions of the bulk characteristics of finite nuclei, but have not been tested with other observables. In this work, densities from both relativistic point-coupling models and mean-field meson models are used in the analysis of meson-nucleus scattering at medium energies. Elastic scattering observables for 790 MeV/$c$ $π^{\pm}$ on $^{208}$Pb are calculated in a relativistic impulse approximation, using the Kemmer-Duffin-Petiau formalism to calculate the $π^{\pm}$ nucleus optical potential.
The parton yield, (pseudo)rapidity distribution, and transverse momentum distribution in partonic matter assumed forming in the early stage of $pp$ and nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC energy ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200 GeV) and LHC energy ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=5.5 TeV for nucleus-nucleus, 5.5 and/or 14 TeV for $pp$) are comparatively investigated with parton and hadron cascade model PACIAE. It turned out that the different parton and anti-parton spectra approach to be similar with reaction energy increasing from RHIC to LHC. We have argued that if the partonic matter forming in Au+Au collisions at RHIC…
Dilepton production in proton- and nucleus-induced reactions is studied in relativistic transport model using initial conditions determined by the string dynamics from RQMD. It is found that both the CERES and HELIOS-3 data for dilepton spectra in proton-nucleus reactions can be well described by the `conventional' mechanism of Dalitz decay and direct vector meson decay. However, to provide a quantitative explanation of the observed dilepton spectra in central S+Au and S+W collisions requires contributions other than these direct decays. Introducing a decrease of vector meson masses in hot and…
We compare the photon emission rates from hot hadronic matter with in-medium mass shift and Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). It is observed that the WA98 data can be well reproduced by hadronic initial state with initial temperature $\sim 200$ MeV if the universal scaling of temperature dependent hadronic masses are assumed and the evolution of temperature with time is taken from transport model or (3+1) dimensional hydrodynamics. The data can also be reproduced by QGP initial state with similar initial temperature and non-zero initial radial velocity.
This paper presents reaction cross section predictions. These predictions are the result of a continuous pipeline which originates from a microscopic nuclear interaction. Density parameters and effective nucleon-nucleon cross sections (both involved in the reaction calculations) are by-products of the same equation of state. First, we perform tests of sensitivity to medium effects using reactions involving 208-Pb, a stable but weakly isospin-asymmetric nucleus. We also show predictions for collisions of some neutron-rich isotopes of Calcium and Argon. We observe significant sensitivity of the …
Within the potential cluster model with the forbidden states and an orbital states classification according to the Young diagrams the possibility of description of experimental data for the total cross-sections of radiative n15N-capture at energies from 25 to 370 keV was considered. It was shown that only on basis of the E1-transitions from the different states of n15N-scattering to the ground state of 16N nucleus in n15N-channel it is well succeed to explain the value of the total cross-sections in the considered energy range and to prognosticate its behavior at energy E 1 eV. These cross-sec…
The microscopic phasespace approach URQMD is used to investigate the stopping power and particle production in heavy systems at SPS and RHIC energies. This framework bridges with one model consistently the entire available range of energies from below SIS to CERN, even for the heaviest system Pb+Pb. URQMD is a hadronic transport model based on the propagation of hadrons on classical trajectories in the framework of Lorentz-invariant dynamics. It includes secondary interactions e.g. annihilation of produced mesons leading to the formation of resonances and the excitation of strings. The collisi…
We investigate the use of proton-nucleus elastic scattering experiments using secondary beams of 6He and 8He to determine the physical structure of these nuclei. The sensitivity of these experiments to nuclear structure is examined by using four different nuclear structure models with different spatial features using a full-folding optical potential model. The results show that elastic scattering at intermediate energies (<100 MeV per nucleon) is not a good constraint to be used to determine features of structure. Therefore researchers should look elsewhere to put constraints on the ground sta…
We perform a systematic study on the surface property of nucleus-nucleus potential in heavy-ion reactions using large-angle quasielastic scattering at energies well below the Coulomb barrier. At these energies, the quasielastic scattering can be well described by a single-channel potential model. Exploiting this fact, we point out that systems which involve spherical nuclei require the diffuseness parameter of around 0.60 fm in order to fit the experimental data, while systems with a deformed target between 0.8 fm and 1.1 fm.
Cross sections are calculated for neutrino scattering off heavy nuclei at energies below 50 MeV. The theory of Fermi liquid is applied to estimate the rate of neutrino-nucleon elastic and inelastic scattering in a nuclear medium in terms of dynamic form factors. The cross sections, obtained here in a rather simple way, are in agreement with the results of the other much more sophisticated nuclear models. A background rate from the solar neutrino interactions within a large Ge detector is estimated in the above-mentioned approach. The knowledge of the rate is in particular rather important for …
We discuss the production of charmonium and open charm in nuclear collisions at SPS/FAIR energies within the framework of the statistical hadronization model. The increasing importance at lower energies of Lambda_c production is discussed and provides a challenge for future experiments. We also show that possible modifications of charmed hadrons in the hot hadronic medium do not lead to measurable changes in the cross sections for D-meson production. A possible influence of medium effects can be seen, however, in yields of charmonium. These effects are visible at all energies and results will …
Predictions of the existence of well-defined deeply bound pionic atom states for heavy nuclei and the eventual observation of such states by the (d,3He) reaction have revived interest in the pion-nucleus interaction at threshold and in its relation to the corresponding pion-nucleon interaction. Explanation of the 'anomalous' s-wave repulsion in terms of partial restoration of chiral symmetry and/or in terms of energy-dependence effects have been tested in global fits to pionic atom data and in a recent dedicated elastic scattering experiment. The role of neutron density distributions in this c…
The nucleus-nucleus interaction potential has been studied within the relativistic mean field theory. The systematics of the relativistic effects have been investigated by analyzing the relation between the potential and the bombarding energy as a function of the impact parameter. It is shown that the potential barriers are noticeably sensitive to the bombarding energy for a given impact parameter. At large bombarding energies the slope at the potential edge decreases with the impact parameter. Comparisons with a non-relativistic treatment shows that relativistic effects cannot be ignored at b…
The total neutron-Nucleus cross section has been calculated within an approach which takes into account nucleon-nucleon correlations, Glauber multiple scattering and inelastic shadowing corrections. Nuclear targets ranging from 4He to 208Pb and neutron incident momentum ranging from 3 to 300 GeV/c, have been considered. Correlations have been introduced by two different approaches leading to the same results. The commonly used approximation, consisting in treating nuclear effects only by a product of one-body densities, is carefully analyzed and it is shown that the effects of realistic correl…
We present the first study to examine the validity of the relativistic impulse approximation (RIA) for describing elastic proton-nucleus scattering at incident laboratory kinetic energies lower than 200 MeV. For simplicity we choose a $^{208}$Pb target, which is a spin-saturated spherical nucleus for which reliable nuclear structure models exist. Microscopic scalar and vector optical potentials are generated by folding invariant scalar and vector scattering nucleon-nucleon (NN) amplitudes, based on our recently developed relativistic meson-exchange model, with Lorentz scalar and vector densiti…
The HIJING and VENUS models of relativistic hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions are used to study interactions of hadron-hadron, hadron-nitrogen and nucleus-nitrogen collisions, specific for the extensive air shower developments initiated by cosmic rays in the atmosphere. The transverse energy, transverse momenta and spectra of secondary particles as well as their energy and mass dependence have been investigated in detail. Results are presented with particular emphasis on the contributions of minijets in HIJING model and validity of superposition models in this energy range.
We show that we can reproduce all the features of bottomonium suppression in both proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC energies in a comover-interaction picture. For each collisions system, we use the measured {\it relative} suppression of the excited $Υ$(2S) and $Υ$(3S) states to $Υ$(1S) by ATLAS and CMS to parametrise the scattering cross sections of all $S$- and $P$-wave bottomonia with the comoving particles created during the collisions. In addition to a single nonpertubative parameter, these cross sections depend on the momentum distribution of these comovers which we fou…
Using a hadron and string cascade model, JPCIAE, we investigated the dependence of event-by-event charge fluctuation on the energy, centrality, window size, resonance decay, and the final state interaction for $Pb+Pb$ collisions at SPS and LHC energies and $Au+Au$ collisions at RHIC energies. The JPCIAE results of charge fluctuation as a function of the rapidity window size in $Pb+Pb$ collisions at SPS energies were compared with the preliminary NA49 data. Comparisons with STAR and PHENIX data of $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{nn}}$=130 GeV were also given. It seems that the final state inter…
New results of the NA61/SHINE Collaboration at the CERN SPS on mean hadron multiplicities in proton-proton (p+p) interactions are analyzed within the transport models and the hadron resonance gas (HRG) statistical model. The chemical freeze-out parameters in p+p interactions and central Pb+Pb (or Au+Au) collisions are found and compared with each other in the range of the center of mass energy of the nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=3.2-17.3$ GeV. The canonical ensemble formulation of the HRG model is used to describe mean hadron multiplicities in p+p interactions and the grand canonical ensemble i…
The effects of nuclear re-interactions in the quasi-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering are investigated with a phenomenological model. We found that the nuclear responses are lowered and their maxima are shifted towards higher excitation energies. This is reflected on the total neutrino-nucleus cross section in a general reduction of about 15% for neutrino energies above 300 MeV.
We show that we can reach a global and coherent description of bottomonium suppression in both proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC energies. The measured relative suppression of the excited bottomonium states as compared to their ground state allows us to constrain the scattering cross sections between the bottomonia and the comovers created during the collisions. Our result hints at a similar energy distribution of these comovers in the environment created by proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. Along the way of our study, we also update our knowledge for the bo…
The experimental data on the production of $K^-$-mesons in pp-collisions are analyzed and a method of the unified description of these data in a broad energy range for primary protons is proposed. The $K^-$-mesons production in pA-collisions is considered. The simple formulas for inclusive cross sections of the $K^-$ production in these collisions are given. The results of the calculations by these formulas are compared with the available experimental data.
We construct a formula for proton-nucleus total reaction cross section as a function of the mass and neutron excess of the target nucleus and the proton incident energy. We deduce the dependence of the cross section on the mass number and the proton incident energy from a simple argument involving the proton optical depth within the framework of a black sphere approximation of nuclei, while we describe the neutron excess dependence by introducing the density derivative of the symmetry energy, L, on the basis of a radius formula constructed from macroscopic nuclear models. We find that the cros…
We present a nonperturbative dynamical study of $e^+e^-$ production in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions from AGS to SPS energies on the basis of the covariant transport approach HSD. For p + Be reactions the dilepton yield for invariant masses $M \leq 1.4$ GeV is found to be dominated by the decays of the $η, ρ, ω$ and $Φ$ mesons at all energies from 10 -- 450 GeV. For nucleus-nucleus collisions, however, the dilepton yield shows an additional large contribution from $π^+π^-$, $K^+K^-$ and $πρ$ channels. Systematic studies are presented for the 'free' meson mass scenario in compar…
Analysis is performed of calculations of the elastic scattering differential cross sections of pions on the $^{28}$Si, $^{40}$Ca, $^{58}$Ni and $^{208}$Pb nuclei at energies from 130 to 290 MeV basing on the microscopic optical potential (OP) constructed as an optical limit of a Glauber theory. Such an OP is defined by the corresponding target nucleus density distribution function and by the elementary $πN$ amplitude of scattering. The three (say, "in-medium") parameters of the $πN$ scattering amplitude: total cross section, the ratio of real to imaginary part of the forward $πN$ amplitude, an…
A global nucleon-nucleus optical potential for elastic scattering has been produced which replicates experimental data to high accuracy and compares well with other recently formulated potentials. The calculation that has been developed describes proton and neutron scattering from target nuclei ranging from carbon to nickel and is applicable for projectile energies from 30 to 160 MeV. With these ranges it is suitable for calculations associated with experiments performed by exotic beam accelerators. The potential is also isospin dependent and has both real and imaginary isovector asymmetry ter…
Perturbative QCD results on pion production are presented in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions from CERN SPS up to RHIC energy. A K_{jet}(s, p_T, Q) factor obtained from jet production is applied to perform next-to-leading order calculations. Using the intrinsic transverse momentum (k_T) we determined transverse momentum spectra for pions in wide energy region. We have investigated nuclear multiscattering and the Cronin effect at RHIC energies.
We analyze the experimental hadron yield ratios for central nucleus-nucleus collisions in terms of thermal model calculations over a broad energy range, $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.7-200 GeV. The fits of the experimental data with the model calculations provide the thermal parameters, temperature and baryo-chemical potential at chemical freeze-out. We compare our results with the values obtained in other studies and also investigate more technical aspects such as a potential bias in the fits when fitting particle ratios or yields. Using parametrizations of the temperature and baryonic chemical potential…
We present the current status of the research activities of the Ghent group on neutrino-nucleus interactions. These consist in the modeling of some of the relevant neutrino-nucleus reaction channels at intermediate energies: low-energy nuclear excitations, quasielastic scattering, two-nucleon knockout processes and single-pion production. The low-energy nuclear excitations and the quasielastic peak are described using a Hartree-Fock-CRPA (continuum random phase approximation) model that takes into account nuclear long-range correlations as well as the distortion of the outgoing nucleon wave fu…
We investigate consequences of local energy-momentum conservation for initial eccentricity coefficients in heavy ion collisions at not too high energies relevant for CERN SPS and RHIC BES. Different models of energy density available for pion production are considered. We study dependence of eccentricity coefficients on space-time rapidity for different impact parameters. The naive formula how to define eccentricities breaks with our initial conditions and must be corrected. We predict considerable eccentricities for $ε_{1,2,3,4}$ and specific dependence on space-time rapidity as well as on im…
We analyse pion-nucleus reactions in a microscopic transport model of the BUU type, which propagates nucleons, pions, deltas and N(1440)-resonances explicitly in space and time. In particular we examine pion absorption and inelastic scattering cross sections for pion kinetic energies T(pi) =85-315MeV and various target masses. In general, the mass-dependence of the experimental data is well described for energies up to the delta-resonance (\approx 160 MeV) while the absorption cross sections are somewhat overestimated for the higher energies. In addition we study the possible dynamical effects…
Previous analytical formulas in the Glauber model for high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions developed by Wong are utilized and extended to study antiproton-nucleus annihilations for both high and low energies, after taking into account the effects of Coulomb and nuclear interactions, and the change of the antiproton momentum inside a nucleus. The extended analytical formulas capture the main features of the experimental antiproton-nucleus annihilation cross sections for all energies and mass numbers. At high antiproton energies, they exhibit the granular property for the lightest nuclei and t…
We propose to use the ratio of the pion-proton correlation functions evaluated under different conditions to study the relative space-time asymmetries in pion and proton emission (pion and nucleon source relative shifts) in high energy heavy ion collision. We address the question of the non-central collisions, where the sources can be shifted spatially both in the longitudinal and in the transverse directions in the reaction plane. We use the RQMD event generator to illustrate the effect and the technique.
We study the scaled variances of multiplicity fluctuations in nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS and RHIC energies within the HSD transport model. The HSD results are compared with proton-proton data and with predictions of the hadron-resonance gas statistical model. We find that the HSD scaled variances $ω_i$ for negatively, positively, and all charged hadrons in central nucleus-nucleus collisions remain close to the $ω_i$ values in proton-proton collisions and increase with collision energy as the corresponding multiplicities per participating nucleon. The statistical model predicts very diff…
In these lectures we discuss the investigation of the strange meson production in proton-proton ($pp$) and in proton-nucleus ($pA$) reactions within an effective Lagrangian model. The kaon production proceeds mainly via the excitations of $N^*$(1650), $N^*$(1710), and $N^*$(1720) resonant intermediate nucleonic states, in the collision of two initial state nucleons. Therefore, the strangeness production is expected to provide information about the resonances lying at higher excitation energies. For beam energies very close to the kaon production threshold the hyperon-proton final state interac…
We study central collision of Pb+Pb at 20, 40, 80 and 160 AGeV within the UrQMD transport approach and compare rapidity distributions of pi-, K+, K- and Lambda with the recent measurements from the NA49 Collaboration at 40, 80 and 160 AGeV. It is found that the UrQMD model reasonably describes the data, however, systematically overpredicts the pi- yield by about 20%, whereas the K+ yield is underestimated by about 15%. The K- yields are in a good agreement with the experimental data, the Lambda yields are also in a reasonable correspondence with the data for all energies. We find that hadronic…
The direct comparison of two different continuum discretization methods towards the solution of a composite particle scattering off a nucleus is presented. The first approach -- the Continumm-Discretized Coupled Channel method -- is based on the differential equation formalism, while the second one -- the Wave-Packet Continuum Discretization method -- uses the integral equation formulation for the composite-particle scattering problem. As benchmark calculations we have chosen the deuteron off \nuc{58}{Ni} target scattering (as a realistic illustrative example) at three different incident energ…
A detailed study of chemical freeze-out in nucleus-nucleus collisions at beam energy 158A GeV is presented. By analyzing hadronic multiplicities within the statistical hadronization approach, the chemical equilibration of p-p, C-C, Si-Si and Pb-Pb systems is studied as a function of the number of participating nucleons in the system. Additionally, Two Component statistical hadronization model is applied to the data and is found to be able to explain the observed strangeness hadronic phase space under-saturation.
Within the key issues of hadronic physics one of the interesting issues in nuclear physics is whether there is a transition region between meson-nucleon and quark-gluon degrees of freedom in the NN interaction. This question is relevant for pairs of free nucleons as well as for nucleon pairs immersed in nuclear matter. From NN phase shifts we deduce a dibaryonic scale of 1 GeV for the soft core NN potential strengths at nucleon separation r equal 0.25 to 0.5 fm. A short range intermediate transition, with fusion and fission of the two scattered nucleons into a dibaryon with prevailing quark-gl…
The Glauber model is extensively applied to heavy ion collision for describing a number of interaction processes over a wide range of energies from near the Coulomb barrier to higher energies. The model gives the nucleus-nucleus interaction in terms of interaction between the constituent nucleons with a given density distribution. The model is a semiclassical model picturing the nuclear collision in the impact parameter representation where the nuclei move along the collision direction in a straight path. In these lectures we derive this model and discuss its applications in variety of problem…
We study the identified particle ratios produced at mid-rapidity in heavy ion collisions, along with their correlations with the collision energy. We employ our earlier proposed Unified Statistical Thermal Freeze-out Model (USTFM), which incorporates the effects of both longitudinal as well as transverse hydrodynamic flow in the hot hadronic system. A fair agreement seen between the experimental data and our model results confirms that the particle production in these collisions is of statistical nature. The variation of the chemical freeze-out temperature and the baryon chemical potential wit…
The rather complete data set of hadron yields from central Si + A collisions at the Brookhaven AGS is used to test whether the system at freeze-out is in thermal and hadro-chemical equilibrium. Rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are discussed with regards to the information they provide on hydrodynamic flow.
We investigate hadron production as well as transverse hadron spectra from proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions from 2 $A\cdot$GeV to 21.3 $A\cdot$TeV within two independent transport approaches (HSD and UrQMD) that are based on quark, diquark, string and hadronic degrees of freedom. The comparison to experimental data on transverse mass spectra from $pp$, $pA$ and C+C (or Si+Si) reactions shows the reliability of the transport models for light systems. For central Au+Au (Pb+Pb) collisions at bombarding energies above $\sim$ 5 A$\cdot$GeV, furthermore, the measured $K^{…
Particle correlations are very actively studied in heavy-ion collisions at ultra-relativistic energies. Here, an attempt is made at determining a proper reference for such studies, by taking properly into account the multiparticle correlations induced by the conservation of total momentum in the collisions.
We studied the ${\bar p}$ interactions with the nuclear medium within the 2009 version of the Paris ${\bar N}N$ potential model. We constructed the $\bar{p}$--nucleus optical potential using the Paris $S$- and $P$-wave ${\bar p}N$ scattering amplitudes and treated their strong energy and density dependence self-consistently. We considered a phenomenological $P$-wave term as well. We calculated $\bar{p}$ binding energies and widths of the $\bar{p}$ bound in various nuclei. The $P$-wave potential has very small effect on the calculated ${\bar p}$ binding energies, however, it reduces the corresp…
The inclusive neutrino/antineutrino-induced charged and neutral current reaction cross-sections in $^{12}C$, $^{16}O$, $^{40}Ar$, $^{56}Fe$ and $^{208}Pb$ in the energy region of supernova neutrinos/antineutrinos are studied. The calculations are performed in the local density approximation (LDA) taking into account the effects due to Pauli blocking, Fermi motion and the renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The effect of Coulomb distortion of the lepton produced in the charged current reactions has also been included. The numerical results for the energy dependen…
An optical potential constructed using the ${\bar p}N$ scattering amplitudes derived from the 2009 version of the Paris ${\bar N}N$ potential is applied in calculations of ${\bar p}$ quasi-bound states in selected nuclei across the periodic table. A proper self-consistent procedure for treating energy dependence of the amplitudes in a nucleus appears crucial for evaluating ${\bar p}$ binding energies and widths. Particular attention is paid to the role of $P$-wave amplitudes. While the $P$-wave potential nearly does not affect calculated ${\bar p}$ binding energies, it reduces considerably the…
Charged multiplicities in nucleus--nucleus collisions are calculated in the Dual Parton Model taking into account shadowing corrections. Its dependence on the number of collisions and participants is analyzed and found in agreement with experiment at SPS and RHIC energies. Using these results, we compute the $J/ψ$ suppression at SPS as a function of the transverse energy and of the energy of the zero degree calorimeter. Predictions for RHIC are presented.
