For any odd squarefree integer r, we get complete description of the G_r=Gal(Q(mu_r)/Q) group cohomology of the universal ordinary distribution U_r in this paper. Moreover, if M is a fixed integer which divides l-1 for all prime factors l of r, we study the cohomology group H^{*}(G_r, U_r/MU_r). In particular, we explain the mysterious construction of the elements kappa_{r'} for r'|r in Rubin's construction of Kolyvagin elements, which come exactly from a certain Z/M Z-basis of the cohomology group H^{0}(G_r, U_r/MU_r) through an evaluation map.
We study the $Λ$-module structure of the ordinary parts of the arithmetic cohomology groups of modular Jacobians made out of various towers of modular curves. We prove that the ordinary parts of $Λ$-adic Selmer groups coming from two different towers have "almost same" $Λ$-module structures. We also prove the cotorsionness of $Λ$-adic Tate-Shafarevich group under mild assumptions.
We study the derived Hecke action at $p$ on the ordinary $p$-adic cohomology of arithmetic subgroups of semisimple groups $\mathrm G(\mathbb Q)$, i.e., we study the derived version of Hida's theory for ordinary Hecke algebras. This is the analog at $\ell=p$ of derived Hecke actions studied by Venkatesh in the tame case. We show that properties of the derived Hecke action at $p$ are related to deep conjectures in Galois cohomology which are higher analogs of the classical Leopoldt conjecture.
In this paper, we present a generalisation of a theorem of David and Rob Pollack. In 'A construction of rigid analytic cohomology classes for congruence subgroups of SL(3,Z)', they give a very general argument for lifting ordinary eigenclasses (with respect to a suitable operator) in the group cohomology of certain arithmetic groups. With slightly tighter conditions, we prove the same result for non-ordinary classes. Pollack and Pollack apply their results to the case of p-ordinary classes in the group cohomology of congruence subgroups for SL3, constructing explicit overconvergent classes in …
Given a continuous ordinary Galois representation $\barρ:G_{\mathbb{Q}_p}\rightarrow\mathrm{GL}_n(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$, Breuil and Herzig constructed an admissible smooth $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$-representation $Π(\barρ)^{\mathrm{ord}}$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ and showed that it occurs in certain globally defined mod $p$ cohomology spaces. By applying Taylor-Wiles patching to spaces of ordinary automorphic representations we prove that the indecomposable pieces of $Π(\barρ)^{\mathrm{ord}}$ each occur with the same multiplicity at a well-chosen tame level.
We give a new method for solving a problem originally solved about 20 years ago by Sinnott and Kubert, namely that of computing the cohomology of the universal ordinary distribution with respect to the action of the two-element group generated by complex conjugation. We develop the method in sufficient generality so as to be able to calculate analogous cohomology groups in the function field setting which have not previously been calculated. In particular, we are able to confirm a conjecture of L.~S.~Yin conditional on which Yin was able to obtain results on unit indices generalizing those of …
We construct the $Λ$-adic de Rham analogue of Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology and of Ohta's $Λ$-adic Hodge cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$, we give a purely geometric proof of the expected finiteness, control, and $Λ$-adic duality theorems. Following Ohta, we then prove that our $Λ$-adic module of differentials is canonically isomorphic to the space of ordinary $Λ$-adic cuspforms. In the sequel to this paper, we construct the crystalline counterpart to Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomo…
We prove a universal coefficients theorem for the overconvergent cohomology modules introduced by Ash and Stevens, and give several applications. In particular, we sketch a very simple construction of eigenvarieties using overconvergent cohomology and prove many instances of a conjecture of Urban on the dimensions of these spaces. For example, when the underlying reductive group is an inner form of GL(2) over a quadratic imaginary extension of the rationals, the cuspidal component of the eigenvariety is a rigid analytic curve.
We compute the rational cohomology of the universal family of smooth cubic surfaces using Vassiliev's method of simplicial resolution. Modulo embedding, the universal family has cohomology isomorphic to that of $\mathbb{P}^2$. A consequence of our theorem is that over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, away from finitely many characteristics, the average number of points on a smooth cubic surface is $q^2 + q + 1$.
The moduli stack $\mathcal A_2$ of principally polarized abelian surfaces comes equipped with the universal abelian surface $π: \mathcal X_2 \to \mathcal A_2$. The fiber of $π$ over a point corresponding to an abelian surface $A$ in $\mathcal A_2$ is $A$ itself. We determine the $\ell$-adic cohomology of $\mathcal X_2$ as a Galois representation. Similarly, we consider the bundles $\mathcal X_2^n \to \mathcal A_2$ and $\mathcal X_2^{\operatorname{Sym}(n)} \to \mathcal A_2$ for all $n \geq 1$, where the fiber over a point corresponding to an abelian surface $A$ is $A^n$ and $\operatorname{Sym}^…
We construct Λ-adic de Rham and crystalline analogues of Hida's ordinary Λ-adic etale cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of \Q_p, we prove appropriate finiteness and control theorems in each case. We then employ integral p-adic Hodge theory to prove Λ-adic comparison isomorphisms between our cohomologies and Hida's etale cohomology. As applications of our work, we provide a "cohomological" construction of the family of (ϕ,Γ)-modules attached to Hida's ordinary Λ-adic etale cohomology by Dee, and we give a new and purely…
We prove analogues of the major algebraic results of Greenberg-Vatsal for Selmer groups of $p$-ordinary newforms over $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extensions which may be neither cyclotomic nor anticyclotomic, under a number of technical hypotheses, including a cotorsion assumption on the Selmer groups. The main complication which arises in our work is the possible presence of finite primes which can split completely in the $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extension being considered, resulting in the local cohomology groups that appear in the definition of the Selmer groups being significantly larger than they are in the cas…
We show that crystals with the properties of crystalline cohomology of ordinary Calabi-Yau threefolds in characteristic p>0, exhibit a remarkable similarity with the well known structure on the cohomology of complex Calabi-Yau threefolds near a boundary point of the moduli space with maximal unipotent local monodromy. In particular, there are canonical coordinates and an analogue of the prepotential of the Yukawa coupling. Moreover we show p-adic analogues of the integrality properties for the canonical coordinates and the prepotential of the Yukawa coupling, which have been observed in the ex…
We construct the $Λ$-adic crystalline and Dieudonné analogues of Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology, and employ integral $p$-adic Hodge theory to prove $Λ$-adic comparison isomorphisms between these cohomologies and the $Λ$-adic de Rham cohomology studied in the prequel to this paper as well as Hida's $Λ$-adic étale cohomology. As applications of our work, we provide a "cohomological" construction of the family of $(φ,Γ)$-modules attached to Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology by the work of Dee, and we give a new and purely geometric proof of Hida's finitenes and control theorems…
We prove an abstract index formula about Sinnott's symbol between two different lattices. We also develop the theory of the universal distribution and predistribution in a double complex point of view. The theory of spectral sequence is used to interpret the index formula and to analyze the cohomology of the universal distribution. Combing these results, we successfully prove Sinnott's index formula about the Stickelberger ideal. In addition, the {1, -1}-cohomology groups of the universal distribution and the universal predistribution are obtained.
We prove that certain p-adic Banach representations, associated to local ordinary Galois representations, constructed by Breuil and Herzig appears in the completed cohomology of a definite unitary group in three variables. This confirms part of their conjecture. Our main technique is making use of p-adic automorphic forms for definite unitary groups and the eigenvarieties which parameterize them.
Using the overconvergent cohomology modules introduced by Ash and Stevens, we construct eigenvarieties associated with reductive groups and establish some basic geometric properties of these spaces, building on work of Ash-Stevens, Urban, and others. We also formulate a precise modularity conjecture linking trianguline Galois representations with overconvergent cohomology classes. In the course of giving evidence for this conjecture, we establish several new instances of \emph{p-}adic Langlands functoriality. Our main technical innovations are a family of universal coefficients spectral sequen…
