Pointwise bounded asymptotic morphisms and Thomsen's non-stable k-theory

In this paper I show that pointwise bounded asymptotic morphisms between separable metrisable locally convex *-algebras induce continuous maps between the quasi-unitary groups of the algebras, provided that the algebras support a certain amount of functional calculus. This links the asymptotic morphisms directly to Thomsen's non-stable definition of k-theory in the C* algebra case. A result on composition of asymptotic morphisms is also given.

Asymptotic morphisms and superselection theory in the scaling limit

Given a local Haag-Kastler net of von Neumann algebras and one of its scaling limit states, we introduce a variant of the notion of asymptotic morphism by Connes and Higson, and we show that the unitary equivalence classes of (localized) morphisms of the scaling limit theory of the original net are in bijection with classes of suitable pairs of such asymptotic morphisms. On Graded K-theory, Elliptic Operators and the Functional Calculus

Let $A$ be a graded C*-algebra. We characterize Kasparov's K-theory group $\hat{K}_0(A)$ in terms of graded *-homomorphisms by proving a general converse to the functional calculus theorem for self-adjoint regular operators on graded Hilbert modules. An application to the index theory of elliptic differential operators on smooth closed manifolds and asymptotic morphisms is discussed.

A Composition Formula for Asymptotic Morphisms

For graded $C^*$-algebras $A$ and $B$, we construct a semigroup ${\cal AP}(A,B)$ out of asymptotic pairs. This semigroup is similar to the semigroup $Ψ(A,B)$ of unbounded KK-modules defined by Baaj and Julg and there is a map $Ψ(A,B) \to {\cal AP}(A,B)$ when $B$ is stable. Furthermore, there is a natural semigroup homomorphism ${\cal AP}(A,B) \to E(A,B)$, where $E(A,B)$ is the E-theory group. Asymptotic morphisms and superselection theory in the scaling limit II: analysis of some models

We introduced in a previous paper a general notion of asymptotic morphism of a given local net of observables, which allows to describe the sectors of a corresponding scaling limit net. Here, as an application, we illustrate the general framework by analyzing the Schwinger model, which features confined charges. In particular, we explicitly construct asymptotic morphisms for these sectors in restriction to the subnet generated by the derivatives of the field and momentum at time zero.
