Approximate $p$-point Leibniz derivation formulas as well as interpolatory Simpson quadrature sums adapted to oscillatory functions are discussed. Both theoretical considerations and numerical evidence concerning the dependence of the discretization errors on the frequency parameter of the oscillatory functions show that the accuracy gain of the present formulas over those based on the exponential fitting approach [L. Ixaru, "Computer Physics Communications", 105 (1997) 1--19] is overwhelming.
In this paper, we propose a multiscale DeepONet to represent nonlinear operator between Banach spaces of highly oscillatory continuous functions. The multiscale deep neural network (DNN) utilizes a multiple scaling technique to convert high frequency function to lower frequency functions before using a DNN to learn a specific range of frequency of the function. The multi-scale concept is integrated into the DeepONet which is based on a universal approximation theory of nonlinear operators. The resulting multi-scale DeepONet is shown to be effective to represent building seismic response operat…
A three term recurrence relation is derived for a basis consisting of polynomials multiplied by sines and cosines with large, but fixed frequencies. A numerical method for computing the coefficients of the three term recurrence relation is derived.

Singular and oscillatory functions feature in numerous applications. The high-accuracy approximation of such functions shall greatly help us develop high-order methods for solving applied mathematics problems. This paper demonstrates that hyperinterpolation, a discrete projection method with coefficients obtained by evaluating the $L^2$ orthogonal projection coefficients using some numerical integration methods, may be inefficient for approximating singular and oscillatory functions. A relatively large amount of numerical integration points are necessary for satisfactory accuracy. Moreover, in…
We introduce an efficient numerical method for second order linear ODEs whose solution may vary between highly oscillatory and slowly changing over the solution interval. In oscillatory regions the solution is generated via a nonoscillatory phase function that obeys the nonlinear Riccati equation. We propose a defect-correction iteration that gives an asymptotic series for such a phase function; this is numerically approximated on a Chebyshev grid with a small number of nodes. For analytic coefficients we prove that each iteration, up to a certain maximum number, reduces the residual by a fact…
The decisive factor for the calculation accuracy of the mapped weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme is the width of the center region of the mapping function. Through analysis of the classical mapped WENO schemes, the results show the width of the central range of the mapping function determined by the local operator in its denominator. Substituting the local operator in WENO-AIM with a symmetric one and an asymmetric function, we get two new adaptive mapped WENO schemes, WENO-AIMS and WENO-AIMA. Similarly, we improve WENO-RM260 and WENO-PM6 by using these local operators, and composed …
In this paper, we study deep neural networks (DNNs) for solving high-dimensional evolution equations with oscillatory solutions. Different from deep least-squares methods that deal with time and space variables simultaneously, we propose a deep adaptive basis Galerkin (DABG) method, which employs the spectral-Galerkin method for the time variable of oscillatory solutions and the deep neural network method for high-dimensional space variables. The proposed method can lead to a linear system of differential equations having unknown DNNs that can be trained via the loss function. We establish a p…
In this paper, we study a multi-scale deep neural network (MscaleDNN) as a meshless numerical method for computing oscillatory Stokes flows in complex domains. The MscaleDNN employs a multi-scale structure in the design of its DNN using radial scalings to convert the approximation of high frequency components of the highly oscillatory Stokes solution to one of lower frequencies. The MscaleDNN solution to the Stokes problem is obtained by minimizing a loss function in terms of L2 normof the residual of the Stokes equation. Three forms of loss functions are investigated based on vorticity-veloci…
This paper is concerned with an efficient numerical method for solving the 1D stationary Schrödinger equation in the highly oscillatory regime. Being a hybrid, analytical-numerical approach it does not have to resolve each oscillation, in contrast to standard schemes for ODEs. We build upon the WKB-based (named after the physicists Wentzel, Kramers, Brillouin) marching method from [2] and extend it in two ways: By comparing the $\mathcal{O}(h)$ and $\mathcal{O}(h^{2})$ methods from [2] we design an adaptive step size controller for the WKB method. While this WKB method is very efficient in the…
