We use Floer's exact triangle to study the u-map (cup product with the 4-dimensional class) in the Floer cohomology groups of admissible SO(3) bundles over closed, oriented 3-manifolds. In the case of non-trivial bundles we show that (u^2-64)^n = 0 for some positive integer n. For homology 3-spheres Y the same holds for a certain reduced Floer group, which is obtained from the ordinary one by factoring out interaction with the trivial connection. This leads to a new proof (in the simply-connected case) of the finite type conjecture of Kronheimer and Mrowka concerning the structure of Donaldson polynomials. In the case of rational coefficients, interaction with the trivial connection is measured by a single integer h(Y), which is additive under connected sums and depends only on the rational homology cobordism class of Y.
For a rational homology 3-sphere $Y$ with a $\spinc$ structure $\s$, we show that simple algebraic manipulations of our construction of equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer homology lead to a collection of variants which are topological invariants. We establish exact sequences relating them, we show that they satisfy a duality under orientation reversal, and we explain their relation to ou previous construction of equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer (co)homologies. We conjecture the equivalence of these versions of equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer homology with the Heegaard Floer invariants introduce…
This paper circulated previously in a draft version. Now, upon general request, it is about time to distribute the more detailed (and much longer) version. The main technical issues revolve around the fine structure of the compactification of the moduli spaces of flow lines and the obstruction bundle technique, with related gluing theorems, needed in the proof of the topological invariance of the equivariant version of the Floer homology.
We construct Bott-type and stable equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer homology and cohomology for rational homology spheres, and prove their diffeomorphism invariance.
The objective of this paper is to clarify the relationships between the quantum D-module and equivariant Floer theory. Equivariant Floer theory was introduced by Givental in his paper ``Homological Geometry''. He conjectured that the quantum D-module of a symplectic manifold is isomorphic to the equivariant Floer cohomology for the universal cover of the free loop space. First, motivated by the work of Guest, we formulate the notion of ``abstract quantum D-module''which generalizes the D-module defined by the small quantum cohomology algebra. Second, we define the equivariant Floer cohomology …
We construct Bott-type and equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer homology and cohomology for 3-manifolds, in particular rational homology spheres, and prove their diffeomorphism invariance. This paper is a revised version of math.DG/9701010. Some typos are removed.
We construct equivariant and Bott-type Seiberg-Witten Floer homology and cohomology for 3-manifolds, in particular rational homology spheres, and prove their diffeomorphism invariance. We present several versions of the equivariant theory: the singular version, the de Rham version and the Cartan version, with the first playing the most important role. These versions are shown to be equivalent to each other. A few typos are removed.
In this paper, we construct a Rabinowitz-Floer type homology for a class of non-linear problems having a \emph{starshaped} potential; we consider some equivariant cases as well. We give an explicit computation of the homology and we apply it to obtain results of existence and multiplicity of solutions for several model equations.
We survey the different versions of Floer homology that can be associated to three-manifolds. We also discuss their applications, particularly to questions about surgery, homology cobordism, and four-manifolds with boundary. We then describe Floer stable homotopy types, the related Pin(2)-equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer homology, and its application to the triangulation conjecture.
In the present work we generalize the construction of monopole Floer homology due to Kronheimer and Mrowka to the case of a gradient flow with Morse-Bott singularities. Focusing then on the special case of a three-manifold equipped with a spin$^c$ structure isomorphic to its conjugate, we define the counterpart in this context of Manolescu's recent $\mathrm{Pin}(2)$-equivariant Seiberg-Witten-Floer homology. In particular, we provide an alternative approach to his disproof of the celebrated Triangulation conjecture.
Using Furuta's idea of finite dimensional approximation in Seiberg-Witten theory, we refine Seiberg-Witten Floer homology to obtain an invariant of homology 3-spheres which lives in the S^1-equivariant graded suspension category. In particular, this gives a construction of Seiberg-Witten Floer homology that avoids the delicate transversality problems in the standard approach. We also define a relative invariant of four-manifolds with boundary which generalizes the Bauer-Furuta stable homotopy invariant of closed four-manifolds.
In this paper, we construct the Rabinowitz-Floer homology for the coupled Dirac system \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} Du=\frac{\partial H}{\partial v}(x,u,v)\hspace{4mm} {\rm on} \hspace{2mm}M,\\ Dv=\frac{\partial H}{\partial u}(x,u,v)\hspace{4mm} {\rm on} \hspace{2mm}M, \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} where $M$ is an $n$-dimensional compact Riemannian spin manifold, $D$ is the Dirac operator on $M$, and $H:ΣM\oplus ΣM\to \mathbb{R}$ is a real valued superquadratic function of class $C^1$ with subcritical growth rates. Solutions of this system can be obtained from the critical…
In the previous paper, the author defined equivariant Floer cohomology for a complete intersection in a toric variety and showed that it is isomorphic to the small quantum D-module after a mirror transformation when the first Chern class c_1(M) of the tangent bundle is nef. In this paper, even when c_1(M) is not nef, we show that the equivariant Floer cohomology reconstructs the big quantum D-module under certain conditions on the ambient toric variety. The proof is based on a mirror theorem by Coates and Givental. The reconstruction procedure here gives a generalized mirror transformation fir…
We study the heat flow for Yang-Mills connections on $\mathbb R^d \times SO(d)$. It is well-known that in dimensions $5 \leq d \leq 9$ this model admits homothetically shrinking solitons, i.e., self-similar blowup solutions, with an explicit example given by Weinkove \cite{Wei04}. We prove the nonlinear asymptotic stability of the Weinkove solution under small equivariant perturbations and thus extend a result by the second author and Donninger for $d=5$ to higher dimensions. At the same time, we provide a general framework for proving stability of self-similar blowup solutions to a large clas…
Mutation is an operation on 3-manifolds containing an embedded surface of genus 2. It is defined by cutting along the surface and regluing using the `hyperelliptic' involution, and is known to preserve many 3-manifold invariants. I show that mutation of a homology 3-sphere preserves its (instanton) Floer homology, and that a related operation on 4-manifolds preserves the Donaldson invariants. A companion article (in preparation) will treat invariants based on the Seiberg-Witten equations.
We consider the Yang-Mills equations in $(1+d)$-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. It is known that in the supercritical case, i.e., for $d \geq 5$, these equations admit closed form equivariant self-similar blowup solutions \cite{BieBiz15}. These solutions are furthermore conjectured to be the universal attractors for generic large equivariant data evolutions. In this paper we partially prove this conjecture. Namely, we show that for all odd $d \geq 5$ the blowup mechanism exhibited by these solutions is stable.
We compute explicit solutions $Λ^\pm_m$ of the Painleve VI (PVI) differential equation from equivariant instanton bundles $E_m$ corresponding to Yang-Mills instantons with "quadrupole symmetry." This is based on a generalization of Hitchin's logarithmic connection to vector bundles with an $SL_2({\mathbb C})$ action. We then identify explicit Okamoto transformation which play the role of "creation operators" for construction $Λ^\pm_m$ from the "ground state" $Λ^\pm_0$, suggesting that the equivariant instanton bundles $E_m$ might similarly be related to the trivial "ground state" $E_0$.
We use Morse theory of the Yang-Mills functional to compute the Betti numbers of the moduli stack of flat U(3)-bundles over a compact nonorientable surface. Our result establishes the antiperfection conjecture of Ho-Liu, and provides evidence for the equivariant formality conjecture of the author.
We present a multisymplectic formulation of the Yang--Mills equations. The connections are represented by normalized equivariant 1-forms on the total space of a principal bundle, with values in a Lie algebra. Within the multisymplectic framework we realize that, under reasonable hypotheses, it is not necessary to assume the equivariance condition a priori, since this condition is a consequence of the dynamical equations.
