We show that the theory of stable complex $G$-cobordisms, for a torus $G$, is embedded into the theory of stable complex $G$-cobordisms of not necessarily compact manifolds equipped with proper abstract moment maps. Thus the introduction of such non-compact cobordisms in the stable complex $G$-cobordism theory does not lead to new relations.

We introduce an equivariant Pontrjagin-Thom construction which identifies equivariant cohomotopy classes with certain fixed point bordism classes. This provides a concrete geometric model for equivariant cohomotopy which works for any compact Lie group G. We define a moment map associated to a smooth torus action on a smooth manifold, without a two-form. We define cobordisms of such structures, allowing non compact manifolds as long as the moment maps are proper. We prove that a compact manifold with a torus action and a moment map is cobordant to the disjoint union of the normal bundles of the connected components of the fixed points set. We introduce a notion of cobordism of Callias-type operators over complete Riemannian manifolds and prove that the index is preserved by such a cobordism. As an application we prove a gluing formula for Callias-type index. In particular, a usual index of an elliptic operator on a compact manifold can be computed as a sum of indexes of Callias-type operators on two non-compact, but topologically simpler manifolds. As another application we give a new proof of the relative index theorem for Callias-type operators, which also leads to a new proof of the Callias index theorem.

We study here compact manifolds with positive scalar curvature metrics. We use the relative Yamabe invariant from math.DG/0008138 to define the conformal cobordism relation on the category of such manifolds. We prove that corresponding conformal cobordism groups $\Pos_n^{\conf}(γ)$ are isomorphic to the cobordism groups $\Pos_n(γ)$ defined topologically by S. Stolz. As a corollary we show that the conformal concordance of positive scalar curvature metrics coincides with the standard concordance relation. Our main technical tools came from the analysis and conformal geometry.
The purpose of the present paper is to prove existence of super-exponentially many compact orientable hyperbolic arithmetic $n$-manifolds that are geometric boundaries of compact orientable hyperbolic $(n+1)$-manifolds, for any $n \geq 2$, thereby establishing that these classes of manifolds have the same growth rate with respect to volume as all compact orientable hyperbolic arithmetic $n$-manifolds. An analogous result holds for non-compact orientable hyperbolic arithmetic $n$-manifolds of finite volume that are geometric boundaries, for $n \geq 2$.
