In this paper we give a combinatorial description of the renormlization limits of infinitely renormalizable unimodal maps with {\it essentially bounded} combinatorics admitting quadratic-like complex extensions. As an application we construct a natural analogue of the period-doubling fixed point. Dynamical hairiness is also proven for maps in this class. These results are proven by analyzing {\it parabolic towers}: sequences of maps related either by renormalization or by {\it parabolic renormalization}.
Inou and Shishikura provided a class of maps that is invariant by near-parabolic renormalization, and that has proved extremely useful in the study of the dynamics of quadratic polynomials. We provide here another construction, using more general arguments. This will allow to extend the range of applications to unicritical polynomials of all degrees.
For a class of polynomial maps of one variable with a parabolic fixed points and degrees bigger than $21$, the parabolic renormalization is introduced based on Fatou coordinates and horn maps, and a type of maps which are invariant under the parabolic renormalization is also given. For the small perturbation of these kinds of maps, the near-parabolic renormalization is also introduced based on the first return maps defined on the fundamental regions. As an application, we show the existence of non-renormalizable polynomial maps with degrees bigger than $21$ such that the Julia sets have positi…
We study parabolic renormalization of analytic germs with a simple parabolic point at the origin. We describe a class of maps $\mathbf P$ which admit a maximal analytic extension to a Jordan domain, and whose covering properties have an explicit topological model. We demonstrate that $\mathbf P$ is invariant under parabolic renormalization, and that Inou-Shishikura fixed point $f_*$ lies in $\mathbf P$. We conjecture that successive parabolic renormalizations of every map in $\mathbf P$ converge to $f_*$ at a geometric rate. We further present a numerical method for computing the Taylor's expa…
We consider parabolic flows on 3-dimensional manifolds which are renormalized by circle extensions of Anosov diffeormorphisms. This class of flows includes nilflows on the Heisenberg nilmanifold which are renormalized by partially hyperbolic automorphisms. The transfer operators associated to the renormalization maps, acting on anisotropic Sobolev spaces, are known to have good spectral properties (this relies on ideas which have some resemblance to representation theory but also apply to non-algebraic systems). The spectral information is used to describe the deviation of ergodic averages and…
We prove the uniform hyperbolicity of the near-parabolic renormalization operators acting on an infinite-dimensional space of holomorphic transformations. This implies the universality of the scaling laws, conjectured by physicists in the 70's, for a combinatorial class of bifurcations. Through near-parabolic renormalizations the polynomial-like renormalizations of satellite type are successfully studied here for the first time, and new techniques are introduced to analyze the fine-scale dynamical features of maps with such infinite renormalization structures. In particular, we confirm the rig…
To the Renyi or backward continued fraction transformation we associate a parabolic iterated function system whose limit set has Hausdorff dimension 1. We show that the Texan Conjecture holds, i.e. for every t in1] there exists a subsystem whose limit set has Hausdorff dimension t
We study of the effect of weak noise on critical one dimensional maps; that is, maps with a renormalization theory. We establish a one dimensional central limit theorem for weak noises and obtain Berry--Esseen estimates for the rate of this convergence. We analyze in detail maps at the accumulation of period doubling and critical circle maps with golden mean rotation number. Using renormalization group methods, we derive scaling relations for several features of the effective noise after long times. We use these scaling relations to show that the central limit theorem for weak noise holds in b…
The structure of the $ω$-limit sets is thoroughly investigated for the skew-product semiflow which is generated by a scalar reaction-diffusion equation \begin{equation*} u_{t}=u_{xx}+f(t,u,u_{x}),\,\,t>0,\,x\in S^{1}=\mathbb{R}/2π\mathbb{Z}, \end{equation*} where $f$ is uniformly almost periodic in $t$ and satisfies $f(t,u,u_x)=f(t,u,-u_x)$. We show that any $ω$-limit set $Ω$ contains at most two minimal sets. Moreover, any hyperbolic $ω$-limit set $Ω$ is a spatially-homogeneous $1$-cover of hull $H(f)$. When $\dim V^c(Ω)=1$ ($V^c(Ω)$ is the center space associated with $Ω$), it is proved that…
We develop a Thurston-like theory to characterize geometrically finite rational maps, then apply it to study pinching and plumbing deformations of rational maps. We show that in certain conditions the pinching path converges uniformly and the quasiconformal conjugacy converges uniformly to a semi-conjugacy from the original map to the limit. Conversely, every geometrically finite rational map with parabolic points is the landing point of a pinching path for any prescribed plumbing combinatorics.
We apply the dynamical approach to the study of the second order semi-linear elliptic boundary value problem in a cylindrical domain with a small parameter at the second derivative with respect to the "time" variable corresponding to the axis of the cylinder. We prove that, under natural assumptions on the nonlinear interaction function and the external forces, this problem possesses the uniform attractors and that these attractors tend to the attractor of the limit parabolic equation. Moreover, in case where the limit attractor is regular, we give the detailed description of the structure of …
A {\sl parabolic cylinder} is an invariant, non-recurrent Fatou component $Ω$ of an automorphism $F$ of $\mathbb C^2$ satisfying: (1) The closure of the $ω$-limit set of $F$ on $Ω$ contains an isolated fixed point, (2) there exists a univalent map $Φ$ from $Ω$ into $\mathbb C^2$ conjugating $F$ to the translation $(z,w) \mapsto (z+1, w)$, and (3) every limit map of $\{F^{\circ n}\}$ on $Ω$ has one-dimensional image. In this paper we prove the existence of parabolic cylinders for an explicit class of maps, and show that examples in this class can be constructed as compositions of shears and ove…
We give formal normal forms for parabolic logarithmic transseries $f=z+\cdots \, $, with respect to parabolic logarithmic normalizations. Normalizations are given algorithmically, using fixed point theorems, as limits of Picard's sequences in appropriate complete metric spaces, in contrast to transfinite \emph{term-by-term} eliminations described in former works. Furthermore, we give the explicit formula for the residual coefficient in the normal form and show that, in the larger logarithmic class, we can even eliminate the residual term from the normal form.
We show that there is a bijection between the renormalizations and proper completely invariant closed sets of expanding Lorenz map, which enable us to distinguish periodic and non-periodic renormalizations. Based on the properties of periodic orbit of minimal period, the minimal completely invariant closed set is constructed. Topological characterizations of the renormalizations and $α$-limit sets are obtained via consecutive renormalizations. Some properties of periodic renormalizations are collected in Appendix.
Two different aspects of parabolic iteration in the complex upper half-plane are considered here. First, from a noncommutative probability perspective, a Berry-Esseen type estimate for the convergence speed of the monotone central limit theorem is proved. Secondly, if the underlying measure in this central limit process is singular to the Lebesgue measure on the real line, then the iteration is shown to be an infinite-measure preserving dynamical system that has a regularly varying return sequence of index 1/2.
We study the local dynamics of generic skew-products tangent to the identity, i.e. maps of the form $P(z,w)=(p(z), q(z,w))$ with $dP_0=\mathrm{id}$. More precisely, we focus on maps with non-degenerate second differential at the origin; such maps have local normal form $P(z,w)=(z-z^2+O(z^3),w+w^2+bz^2+O(\|(z,w)\|^3))$. We prove the existence of parabolic domains, and prove that inside these parabolic domains the orbits converge non-tangentially if and only if $b \in (\frac{1}{4},+\infty)$. Furthermore, we prove the existence of a type of parabolic implosion, in which the renormalization limits…
