Renormalization and alpha-limit set for expanding Lorenz maps

We show that there is a bijection between the renormalizations and proper completely invariant closed sets of expanding Lorenz map, which enable us to distinguish periodic and non-periodic renormalizations. Based on the properties of periodic orbit of minimal period, the minimal completely invariant closed set is constructed. Topological characterizations of the renormalizations and $α$-limit sets are obtained via consecutive renormalizations. Some properties of periodic renormalizations are collected in Appendix.

Super-expanding measures

We study the one-dimensional expanding Lorenz maps and show the existence of dense subset D of Lorens maps such that each f in D has an uncountable set of ergodic invariant probabilities with infinite Lyapunov exponent and positive entropy. Such measures may appear when the singularity has fast recurrence to itself. Conversely, if the singularity has slow recurrence to itself then the Lorenz map has an upper bound to the Lyapunov exponent of all invariant measures.

Thermodynamic formalism for Lorenz maps

For a 2-dimensional map representing an expanding geometric Lorenz at- tractor we prove that the attractor is the closure of a union of as long as possible unstable leaves with ending points. This allows to define the notion of good measures, those giving full measure to the union of these open leaves. Rigorous computation of invariant measures and fractal dimension for piecewise hyperbolic maps: 2D Lorenz like maps

Area expanding C^{1+α} Suspension Semiflows

We study a large class of suspension semiflows which contains the Lorenz semiflows. This is a class with low regularity (merely C^{1+α}) and where the return map is discontinuous and the return time is unbounded. We establish the functional analytic framework which is typically employed to study rates of mixing. The Laplace transform of the correlation function is shown to admit a meromorphic extension to a strip about he imaginary axis. As part of this argument we give a new result concerning the quasi-compactness of weighted transfer operators for piecewise C^{1+α} expanding interval maps.

Coinductive properties of Lipschitz functions on streams

A simple hierarchical structure is imposed on the set of Lipschitz functions on streams (i.e. sequences over a fixed alphabet set) under the standard metric. We prove that sets of non-expanding and contractive functions are closed under a certain coiterative construction. The closure property is used to construct new final stream coalgebras over finite alphabets. For an example, we show that the 2-adic extension of the Collatz function and certain variants yield final bitstream coalgebras.

Chaotic polynomial maps
