It is shown that the p-summing norm of any operator with n-dimensional domain can be well-aproximated using only ``few" vectors in the definition of the p-summing norm. Except for constants independent of n and log n factors, ``few" means n if 1<p<2 and n^{p/2} if 2<p<infinity.
We prove that the multiple summing norm of multilinear operators defined on some $n$-dimensional real or complex vector spaces with the $p$-norm may be written as an integral with respect to stables measures. As an application we show inclusion and coincidence results for multiple summing mappings. We also present some contraction properties and compute or estimate the limit orders of this class of operators.
We give conditions that ensure that an operator satisfying a Piestch domination in a given setting also satisfies a Piestch domination in a different setting. From this we derive that a bounded mutlilinear operator $T$ is Lipschitz $p$-summing if and only if the mapping $ f_T(x_1\otimes\cdots \otimes x_n):=T(x_1,\ldots, x_n)$ is Lipschitz $p$-summing. The results are based on the projective tensor norm. An example with the Hilbert tensor norm is provided to show that the statement may not hold when a reasonable cross-norm other than the projective tensor norm is considered.
In this article, we study the ideals of mid $p$-summing operators. We obtain representation of these operator ideals by tensor norms. These tensor norms are defined by using a particular kind of sequential dual of the class of mid $p$-summable sequences. As a consequence, we prove a characterization of the adjoints of weakly and absolutely mid $p$-summing operators in terms of the operators that are defined by the transformation of dual spaces of certain vector-valued sequence spaces.
We will show that for $q<p$ there exists an $\al < \infty$ such that \[ π_{pq}(T) \pl \le c_{pq} π_{pq}^{[n^α]}(T) \mbox{for all $T$ of rank $n$.}\] Such a polynomial number is only possible if $q=2$ or $q<p$. Furthermore, the growth rate is linear if $q=2$ or $\frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{p}>\frac{1}{2}$. Unless $\frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{p}=\frac{1}{2}$ this is also a necessary condition .
We prove when a Banach ideal of linear operators defined, or characterized, by the transformation of vector-valued sequences is maximal. Known results are recovered as particular cases and new information is obtained. To accomplish this task we study a tensor quasi-norm determined by the underlying sequence classes. The duality theory for these tensor quasi-norms is also developed.
A Banach space $X$ has the $2$-summing property if the norm of every linear operator from $X$ to a Hilbert space is equal to the $2$-summing norm of the operator. Up to a point, the theory of spaces which have this property is independent of the scalar field: the property is self-dual and any space with the property is a finite dimensional space of maximal distance to the Hilbert space of the same dimension. In the case of real scalars only the real line and real $\ell_\infty^2$ have the $2$-summing property. In the complex case there are more examples; e.g., all subspaces of complex $\ell_\in…
We consider the space of molecules endowed with the transpose version of the Chevet-Saphar norm and we identify its dual space with the space of Lipschitz strongly p-summing operators. We also extend some old results to the category of Lipschitz mappings and we give a factorization result of Lipschitz (p,r,s)-summing operators.
In this note we explore the notion of everywhere almost summing polynomials and define a natural norm which makes this class a Banach multi-ideal which is a holomorphy type (in the sense of L.Nachbin) and also coherent and compatible (in the sense of D. Carando, V. Dimant and S. Muro) with the notion of almost summing linear operators. Similar results are not valid for the original concept of almost summing polynomials, due to G. Botelho.
Unifying several directions of the development of the study of summing multilinear operators between Banach spaces, we construct a general framework that studies, under one single definition, multilinear operators that are summing with respect to sums taken over any number of indices, iterated and non-iterated sums (the isotropic and the anisotropic cases), sums over arbitrary blocks and over several different sequence norms. A large number of special classes of multilinear operators and of methods of generating classes of multilinear operators are recovered as particular instances. Ideal prop…
We apply the geometric approach provided by $Σ$-operators to develop a theory of $p$-summability for multilinear operators. In this way, we introduce the notion of Lipschitz $p$-summing multilinear operators and show that it is consistent with a general panorama of generalization: Namely, they satisfy Pietsch-type domination and factorization theorems and generalizations of the inclusion Theorem, Grothendieck's coincidence Theorems, the weak Dvoretsky-Rogers Theorem and a Lindenstrauss-Pelczyńsky Theorem. We also characterize this new class in tensorial terms by means of a Chevet-Saphar-type t…
In this paper we show how \emph{the metric theory of tensor products} developed by Grothendieck perfectly fits in the study of channel capacities, a central topic in \emph{Shannon's information theory}. Furthermore, in the last years Shannon's theory has been generalized to the quantum setting to let the \emph{quantum information theory} step in. In this paper we consider the classical capacity of quantum channels with restricted assisted entanglement. In particular these capacities include the classical capacity and the unlimited entanglement-assisted classical capacity of a quantum channel. …
In this work we show that, given a linear map from a general operator space into the dual of a C$^*$-algebra, its completely bounded norm is upper bounded by a universal constant times its $(1,cb)$-summing norm. This problem is motivated by the study of quantum XOR games in the field of quantum information theory. In particular, our results imply that for such games entangled strategies cannot be arbitrarily better than those strategies using one-way classical communication.
We study in this paper some property of Lipschitz mappings which admit factorization through an operator ideal. We try to construct Lipschitz cross-norms from known tensor norms in order to represent certain classes of Lipschitz mappings. Inspired by the definition of p-summing linear operators we introduce a new concpet in the the category of Lipschitz mappings that is called strictly Lipschitz p-summing.
As is well known absolute convergence and unconditional convergence for series are equivalent only in finite dimensional Banach spaces. Replacing the classical notion of absolutely summing operators by the notion of 1 summing operators \[ \summ_k || Tx_k || \leq c || \summ_k e_k \otimes x_k ||_{\ell_1\otimes_{min}E}\] in the category of operator spaces, it turns out that there are quite different interesting examples of 1 summing operator spaces. Moreover, the eigenvalues of a composition $TS$ decreases of order $n^{\frac{1}{q}}$ for all operators $S$ factorizing completely through a commutati…
We show that for any operator $T:l_\infty^N\to Y$, where $Y$ is a Banach space, that its cotype 2 constant, $K_2(T)$, is related to its $(2,1)$-summing norm, $π_{2,1}(T)$, by $K_2(T) \le c \log\log N π_{2,1}(T) $. Thus, we can show that there is an operator $T:C(K)\to Y$ that has cotype 2, but is not 2-summing.
Given an infinite set Λof characters on a compact abelian group we show that Λis a Λ(p)-set for all p>2 if and only if the limit order of the ideal of all Λ-summing operators coincides with that of the ideal of all Gaussian-summing operators. This is a natural counterpart to a recent result of Baur which says that Λis a Sidon set if and only if even the two operator ideals from above coincide. Furthermore, our techniques, which are mainly based on complex interpolation, lead us to exact asymptotic estimates of the Gaussian-summing norm of identities between finite-dimensional Schatten classes.
We study the space of $p$-compact operators $\mathcal K_p$, using the theory of tensor norms and operator ideals. We prove that $\mathcal K_p$ is associated to $/d_p$, the left injective associate of the Chevet-Saphar tensor norm $d_p$ (which is equal to $g_{p'}'$). This allows us to relate the theory of $p$-summing operators with that of $p$-compact operators. With the results known for the former class and appropriate hypothesis on $E$ and $F$ we prove that $\mathcal K_p(E;F)$ is equal to $\mathcal K_q(E;F)$ for a wide range of values of $p$ and $q$, and show that our results are sharp. We a…
We derive new comparison inequalities between weak and strong moments of norms of random vectors with optimal (up to an universal factor) constants. We discuss applications to the concentration of log-concave random vectors and bounds on $p$-summing norms of finite rank operators.
We define the frame potential for a Schauder frame on a finite dimensional Banach space as the square of the $2$-summing norm of the frame operator. As is the case for frames for Hilbert spaces, we prove that the frame potential can be used to characterize finite unit norm tight frames (FUNTFs) for finite dimensional Banach spaces. We prove the existence of FUNTFs for a variety of spaces, and in particular that every $n$-dimensional complex Banach space with a $1$-unconditional basis has a FUNTF of $N$ vectors for every $N\geq n$. However, many interesting results on FUNTFs and sums of rank on…
We modify the very well known theory of normed spaces $(E, \norm)$ within functional analysis by considering a sequence $(\norm_n : n\in\N)$ of norms, where $\norm_n$ is defined on the product space $E^n$ for each $n\in\N$. Our theory is analogous to, but distinct from, an existing theory of `operator spaces'; it is designed to relate to general spaces $L^p$ for $p\in [1,\infty]$, and in particular to $L^1$-spaces, rather than to $L^2$-spaces. After recalling in Chapter 1 some results in functional analysis, especially in Banach space, Hilbert space, Banach algebra, and Banach lattice theory t…
