If $ϕ$ is a submeasure satisfying an appropriate lower estimate we give a quantitative result on the total mass of a measure $μ$ satisfying $0\leμ\leϕ.$ We give a dual result for supermeasures and then use these results to investigate convexity on non-locally convex quasi-Banach lattices. We then show how to use these results to extend some factorization theorems due to Pisier to the setting of quasi-Banach spaces. We conclude by showing that if $X$ is a quasi-Banach space of cotype two then any operator $T:C(Ω)\to X$ is 2-absolutely summing and factors through a Hilbert space and discussing general factorization theorems for cotype two spaces.
We continue the study of the so-called thematic factorizations of admissible very badly approximable matrix functions. These factorizations were introduced by V.V. Peller and N.J. Young for studying superoptimal approximation by bounded analytic matrix functions. Even though thematic indices associated with a thematic factorization of an admissible very badly approximable matrix function are not uniquely determined by the function itself, R.B. Alexeev and V.V. Peller showed that the thematic indices of any monotone non-increasing thematic factorization of an admissible very badly approximable …
The Fejér-Riesz spectral factorization lemma, which represents a nonnegative trigonometric polynomial as the squared modulus of a trigonometric polynomial, was extended by Ahiezer to factorize certain entire functions and by Helson and Lowdenslager to factorize certain functions on compact connected abelian groups whose Pontryagin duals are equipped with a linear order. This paper relates these factorizations for archimedian orders using the theory of almost periodic functions.
In the paper we find representation of the space of pointwise multipliers between two Orlicz function spaces, which appears to be another Orlicz space and the formula for the Young function generating this space is given. Further, we apply this result to find necessary and suffcient conditions for factorization of Orlicz function spaces.
Let G be a block matrix function with one diagonal block A being positive definite and the off diagonal blocks complex conjugates of each other. Conditions are obtained for G to be factorable (in particular, with zero partial indices) in terms of the Schur complement of A.
By classical results of Herglotz and F. Riesz, any bounded analytic function in the complex unit disk has a unique inner-outer factorization. Here, a bounded analytic function is called \emph{inner} or \emph{outer} if multiplication by this function defines an isometry or has dense range, respectively, as a linear operator on the Hardy Space, $H^2$, of analytic functions in the complex unit disk with square-summable Taylor series. This factorization can be further refined; any inner function $θ$ decomposes uniquely as the product of a \emph{Blaschke inner} function and a \emph{singular inner} …
We investigate relations between symmetrizations of quasi-Banach function spaces and constructions such as Calderon-Lozanovskii spaces, pointwise product spaces and pointwise multipliers. We show that under reasonable assumptions the symmetrization commutes with these operations. We determine also the spaces of pointwise multipliers between Lorentz spaces and Cesaro spaces. Developed methods may be regarded as an arithmetic of quasi-Banach function spaces and proofs of Theorems 3, 4 and 6 give a kind of tutorial for these methods. Finally, the above results will be used in proofs of some facto…
We show that the factorization problem $θ(z)=θ_2(z)θ_1(z)$ is solvable in the class of Hilbert space operator-valued functions holomorphic on some neighbourhood of $z=0$ in $\nspace{C}{N}$ and having a zero at $z=0$ (here $θ(z)$ has a multiple zero at $z=0$). Such a factorization problem becomes more complicated if we demand for $θ(z), θ_1(z)$ and $θ_2(z)$ to be Agler--Schur-class functions on the polydisk $\nspace{D}{N}$ and for the factorization identity to hold in $\nspace{D}{N}$. In this case we reduce it to the problem on the existence of a cascade decomposition for certain multiparametri…
On the Fréchet space of entire functions $H(\mathbb{C})$, we show that every nonscalar continuous linear operator $L:H(\mathbb{C})\to H(\mathbb{C})$ which commutes with differentiation has a hypercyclic vector $f(z)$ in the form of the infinite product of linear polynomials: \[ f(z) = \prod_{j=1}^\infty \, \left( 1-\frac{z}{a_j}\right), \] where each $a_j$ is a nonzero complex number.
In this paper we study operators of the form $M(ϕ)=T(ϕ)+H(ϕ)$ where $T(ϕ)$ and $H(ϕ)$ are the Toeplitz and Hankel operators acting on $H^p(\T)$ with generating function $ϕ\in L^\iy(\T)$. It turns out that $M(ϕ)$ is invertible if and only if the function $ϕ$ admits a certain kind of generalized factorization.
In this article, we introduce the notion of $p$-$(DPL)$ sets.\ Also, a factorization result for differentiable mappings through Dunford-Pettis $p$-convergent operators is investigated.\ Namely, if $ X ,Y $ are real Banach spaces and $U$ is an open convex subset of $X,$ then we obtain that, given a differentiable mapping $f: U\rightarrow Y$ its derivative $f^{\prime}$ takes $U$-bounded sets into $p$-$(DPL)$ sets if and only if it happens $f=g\circ S,$ where $S$ is a Dunford-Pettis $p$-convergent operator from $X$ into a suitable Banach space $Z$ and $g:S(U)\rightarrow Y$ is a Gâteaux differenti…
We study the problem of invariance of indices of thematic factorizations. Such factorizations were introduced in [PY1] for studying superoptimal approximation by bounded analytic matrix functions. As shown in [PY1], the indices may depend on the choice of a thematic factorization. We introduce the notion of a monotone thematic factorization. The main result shows that under natural assumptions a matrix function that admits a thematic factorization also admits a monotone thematic factorization and the indices of a monotone thematic factorization are uniquely determined by the matrix function it…
We continue studying the problem of analytic approximation of matrix functions. We introduce the notion of a partial canonical factorization of a badly approximable matrix function $Φ$ and the notion of a canonical factorization of a very badly approximable matrix function $Φ$. Such factorizations are defined in terms of so-called balanced unitary-valued functions which have many remarkable properties. Unlike the case of thematic factorizations studied earlier in [PY1], [PY2], [PT], [AP1], the factors in canonical factorizations (as well as partial canonical factorizations) are uniquely determ…
We obtain a factorization of the characteristic function of a contractive two-step iterated lifting in terms of the characteristic functions of constituent liftings of the iterated lifting and the Julia-Halmos matrix. We also give an expression for the characteristic function of the minimal part of a contractive two-step iterated lifting as a restriction of the product of the characteristic functions of constituent liftings of the iterated lifting.
A new effective method for factorization of a class of nonrational $n\times n$ matrix-functions with \emph{stable partial indices} is proposed. The method is a generalization of the one recently proposed by the authors which was valid for the canonical factorization only. The class of considered matrices is motivated by problems originated from applications. The properties and details of the asymptotic procedure are illustrated by examples. The efficiency of the procedure is highlighted by numerical results.
Recent work of Aleman, Hartz, McCarthy and Richter generalizes the classical inner-outer factorization of Hardy space functions to the complete Pick space setting, establishing an essentially unique "subinner-free outer" factorization. In this note, we investigate certain special examples of such factorizations in the setting of the function space induced on the annulus $A_r=\{r<|z|<1\}$ by the complete Pick kernel $$k_{r}(λ,μ):=\frac{1-r^2}{(1-λ\barμ)(1-r^2/λ\barμ)}.$$
We study various aspects of Schur analysis in the slice hyperholomorphic setting. We present two sets of results: first, we give new results on the functional calculus for slice hyperholomorphic functions. In particular, we introduce and study some properties of the Riesz projectors. Then we prove a Beurling-Lax type theorem, the so-called structure theorem. A crucial fact which allows to prove our results, is the fact that the right spectrum of a quaternionic linear operator and the S-spectrum coincide. Finally, we study the Krein-Langer factorization for slice hyperholomorphic generalized Sc…
We construct operators which factorize the transfer function associated with a non-self-adjoint 2x2 operator matrix whose diagonal entries can have overlapping spectra and whose off-diagonal entries are unbounded operators.
Let $θ$ be an inner function on the unit disk, and let $K^p_θ:=H^p\capθ\overline{H^p_0}$ be the associated star-invariant subspace of the Hardy space $H^p$, with $p\ge1$. While a nontrivial function $f\in K^p_θ$ is never divisible by $θ$, it may have a factor $h$ which is "not too different" from $θ$ in the sense that the ratio $h/θ$ (or just the anti-analytic part thereof) is smooth on the circle. In this case, $f$ is shown to have additional integrability and/or smoothness properties, much in the spirit of the Hardy--Littlewood--Sobolev embedding theorem. The appropriate norm estimates are e…
We provide the weak factorization of the Hardy spaces $H^{p}(\mathbb{R}_+, dm_λ)$ in the Bessel setting, for $p\in \left(\frac{2λ+ 1}{2λ+ 2}, 1\right]$. As a corollary we obtain a characterization of the boundedness of the commutator $[b, R_{Δ_λ}]$ from $L^{q}(\mathbb{R}_+, dm_λ)$ to $L^{r}(\mathbb{R}_+, dm_λ)$ when $b\in \textrm{Lip}_α(\mathbb{R}_+, dm_λ)$ provided that $α= \frac{1}{q} - \frac{1}{r}$. The results are a slight generalization and modification of the work of Duong, Li, Yang, and the second named author, which in turn are based on modifications and adaptations of work by Uchiyama…
We study factorizations of operator valued functions of weighted Schur classes over multiply-connected domains. There is a correspondence between functions from weighted Schur classes and so-called ``conservative curved'' systems introduced in the paper. We show that the fundamental relationship between invariant subspaces of the main operator of a conservative system and factorizations of the corresponding operator valued function of Schur class, which is well known in the case of the unit disk, can be extended to our case. We develop new notions and constructions and discuss changes that sho…
For an $n\times n$ bounded matrix function $Φ$ we study unitary interpolants $U$, i.e., unitary-valued functions $U$ such that $\hat U(j)=\hatΦ(j)$, $j<0$. We are looking for unitary interpolants $U$ for which the Toeplitz operator $T_U$ is Fredholm. We give a new approach based on superoptimal singular values and thematic factorizations. We describe Wiener--Hopf factorization indices of $U$ in terms of superoptimal singular values of $Φ$ and thematic indices of $Φ-F$, where $F$ is a superoptimal approximation of $Φ$ by bounded analytic matrix functions. The approach essentially relies on the …
This is a continuation of our earlier paper \cite{PT3}. We consider here operator-valued functions (or infinite matrix functions) on the unit circle $\T$ and study the problem of approximation by bounded analytic operator functions. We discuss thematic and canonical factorizations of operator functions and study badly approximable and very badly approximable operator functions. We obtain algebraic and geometric characterizations of badly approximable and very badly approximable operator functions. Note that there is an important difference between the case of finite matrix functions and the ca…
We consider the analytic continuation of the transfer function associated with a 2x2 operator matrix having unbounded couplings into unphysical sheets of its Riemann surface. We construct a family of non-selfadjoint operators which factorize the transfer function and reproduce certain parts of its spectrum including the nonreal (resonance) spectrum situated in the unphysical sheets neighboring the physical sheet.
