This is a review of [Michor, Peter W.: The moment mapping for a unitary representation, Ann. Global Anal. For a compact surface $S = S_{g,n}$ with $3g + n \geq 4$, we introduce a family of unitary representations of the mapping class group Mod($S$) based on the space of measured foliations. For this family of representations, we show that none of them has almost invariant vectors. As one application, we obtain an inequality concerning the action of Mod($S$) on the Teichmüller space of $S$. Moreover, using the same method plus recent results about weak equivalence, we also give a classification, up to weak equivalence, for the unitary quasi-representations with respect to geometrical subgroups.

Let $U$ be a matrix chosen randomly, with respect to Haar measure, from the unitary group $U(d).$ We express the moments of the trace of any submatrix of $U$ as a sum over partitions whose terms count certain standard and semistandard Young tableaux. We use quantum invariants to define an analytic family of representations for the mapping class group of a punctured surface. The representations depend on a complex number A with |A| <= 1 and act on an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. They are unitary when A is real or imaginary, bounded when |A|<1, and only densely defined when |A| = 1 and A is not a root of unity. For a smooth projective unitary representation of a locally convex Lie group G, the projective space of smooth vectors is a locally convex Kaehler manifold. We show that the action of G on this space is weakly Hamiltonian, and lifts to a Hamiltonian action of the central U(1)-extension of G obtained from the projective representation. We identify the non-equivariance cocycles obtained from the weakly Hamiltonian action with those obtained from the projective representation, and give some integrality conditions on the image of the momentum map.
