Conner and Hurrelbrink established a method of determining the structure of the 2-Sylow subgroup of the tame kernel $K_2(\mathcal{O})$ for certain quadratic number fields. Specifically, the 4-rank for these fields was characterized in terms of positive definite binary quadratic forms. Numerical calculations led to questions concerning possible density results of the 4-rank of tame kernels. In this paper, we succeed in giving affirmative answers to these questions.

A note on 4-rank densities

For certain real quadratic number fields, we prove density results concerning 4-ranks of tame kernels. We also discuss a relationship between 4-ranks of tame kernels and 4-class ranks of narrow ideal class groups. Additionally, we give a product formula for a local Hilbert symbol.

Computing higher rank primitive root densities

We extend the character sum method for the computation of densities in Artin primitive root problems developed by H. W. Lenstra and the authors to the situation of radical extensions of arbitrary rank. Our algebraic set-up identifies the key parameters of the situation at hand, and obviates the lengthy analytic multiplicative number theory arguments that used to go into the computation of actual densities. It yields a conceptual interpretation of the formulas obtained, and enables us to extend their range of application in a systematic way.

Rank gain of Jacobians over finite Galois extensions

Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a Riemann surface of genus $g>0$ defined over a number field $K$ which is a degree $d$-covering of $\mathbb{P}^1_K$. In this paper we show the existence of infinitely many linearly disjoint degree $d$-extensions $L/K$ over which the Jacobian of $\mathcal{X}$ gains rank. In the case where 0, 1 and $\infty$ are the only branch points, and there is an automorphism $σ$ of $\mathcal{X}$ which cyclically permutes these branch points, we obtain the same result for the Jacobian of $\mathcal{X}/σ$. On Drinfeld modular forms of higher rank VI: The simplicial complex associated with a coefficient form

The coefficient forms $ {}_{a} \ell_{k} $ and the para-Eisenstein series $α_{k}$ are simplicial Drinfeld modular forms. We study the attached simplicial complexes $\mathcal{BT}^{r}( {}_{a} \ell_{k})$ and $\mathcal{BT}^{r}(α_{k})$, which are full subcomplexes of the Bruhat-Tits building $\mathcal{BT}^{r}$ of $ \mathrm{PGL}(r, K_{\infty})$. They are connected (if the rank $r$ is larger than 2), strongly equidimensional of codimension 1 in $\mathcal{BT}^{r}$, boundaryless, and satisfy a symmetry property under the non-trivial involution of the Dynkin diagram $A_{r-1}$.

Lower bounds for the rank of families of abelian varieties under base change

We consider the following question : given a family over abelian varieties $\mathcal{A}$ over a curve $B$ defined over a number field $k$, how does the rank of the Mordell-Weil group of the fibres $\mathcal{A}_t(k)$ vary? A specialisation theorem of Silverman guarantees that, for almost all $t$ in $C(k)$, the rank of the fibre is at least the generic rank, that is the rank of $\mathcal{A}(k(B))$.
