For an object $A$ of a category of interest $\mathbb{C}$ we construct the group with operations ${\mathfrak{B}}(A)$ and the semidirect product ${\mathfrak{B}}(A)\ltimes A$ and prove that there exists an actor of $A$ in $\mathbb{C}$ if and only if ${\mathfrak{B}}(A)\ltimes A \in \mathbb{C}$. The cases of groups, Lie, Leibniz, associative, commutative associative, alternative algebras, crossed and precrossed modules are considered. The paper contains some results for the case $Ω_2 = \{+,*,*^{\circ}\}$.
In this study, using the Brown-Spencer theorem and in the ligth of the works of Norrie, in the category of internal categories within groups, also called group-groupoids, we interpret the notion of actor of a crossed module over groups. Further, we construct the action of a group-groupoid on a group-groupoid. Moreover, we give the explicit construction of semi-direct product of two group-groupoids and of holomorph of group-groupoids.

We introduce some algebraic structures such as singularity, commutators and central extension in modified categories of interest. Additionally, we introduce the cat$^{1}$-objects with their connection to crossed modules in these categories which gives rise to unify many notions about (pre)crossed modules in various algebras of categories.
We firstly prove the completeness of the category of crossed modules in a modified category of interest. Afterwards, we define pullback crossed modules and pullback cat$^1$-objects that are both obtained by pullback diagrams with extra structures on certain arrows. These constructions unify many corresponding results for the cases of groups, commutative algebras and can also be adapted to various algebraic structures.
We address the (pointed) homotopy of crossed module morphisms in modified categories of interest; which generalizes the groups and various algebraic structures. We prove that, the homotopy relation gives rise to an equivalence relation; furthermore a groupoid structure, without any restriction on neither domain nor co-domain of the crossed module morphism. Additionally, we consider the particular cases such as associative algebras, Leibniz algebras, Lie algebras and dialgebras of crossed modules of this generalized homotopy definition. Then as the main part of the paper, we prove that the func…
Differential categories provide an axiomatization of the basics of differentiation and categorical models of differential linear logic. As differentiation is an important tool throughout quantum mechanics and quantum information, it makes sense to study applications of the theory of differential categories to categorical quantum foundations. In categorical quantum foundations, compact closed categories (and therefore traced symmetric monoidal categories) are one of the main objects of study, in particular the category of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces FHilb. In this paper, we will explain w…
There is a well-known correspondence between coherent theories (and their interpretations) and coherent categories (resp. functors), hence the (2,1)-category $\mathbf{Coh_{\sim}}$ (of small coherent categories, coherent functors and all natural isomorphisms) is of logical interest. We prove that this category admits all small 2-limits and 2-colimits (in the ($\infty $,1)-categorical sense), and prove a 2-categorical small object argument to provide weak factorisation systems for coherent functors.
In this thesis, we introduce Cartesian double categories, motivated by the work of Carboni, Kelly, Walters, and Wood on Cartesian bicategories. Moving from bicategories to the slightly more generalized notion of double categories allows us to set the whole theory inside the welcoming 2-category of double categories, and to overcome technical problems that were caused by working with left adjoints inside a general bicategory. Cartesian double categories that are also fibrant are of particular interest to us. After describing some important properties of Cartesian and fibrant double categories, …
We work with $FI$-modules over a small preadditive category $\mathcal R$, viewed as a ring with several objects. Our aim is to study torsion theories for $FI$-modules. We are especially interested in torsion theories on finitely generated $FI$-modules and the category of what we call "shift finitely generated" $FI$-modules. We also apply these methods to study inductive descriptions of $FI$-modules over $\mathcal R$.
We give conditions on a finitary endofunctor of a finitely accessible category to admit a final coalgebra. Our conditions always apply to the case of a finitary endofunctor of a locally finitely presentable (l.f.p.) category and they bring an explicit construction of the final coalgebra in this case. On the other hand, there are interesting examples of final coalgebras beyond the realm of l.f.p. categories to which our results apply. We rely on ideas developed by Tom Leinster for the study of self-similar objects in topology.

Applied category theory has recently developed libraries for computing with morphisms in interesting categories, while machine learning has developed ways of learning programs in interesting languages. Taking the analogy between categories and languages seriously, this paper defines a probabilistic generative model of morphisms in free monoidal categories over domain-specific generating objects and morphisms. The paper shows how acyclic directed wiring diagrams can model specifications for morphisms, which the model can use to generate morphisms. Amortized variational inference in the generati…
We study the G-centers of G-graded monoidal categories where G is an arbitrary group. We prove that for any spherical G-fusion category C over an algebraically closed field such that the dimension of the neutral component of C is non-zero, the G-center of C is a G-modular category. This generalizes a theorem of M. Müger corresponding to G=1. We also exhibit interesting objects of the G-center.
We prove that topological Hochschild homology (THH) arises from a presheaf of circles on a certain combinatorial category, which gives a universal construction of THH for any enriched infinity category. Our results rely crucially on an elementary, model-independent framework for enriched higher category theory, which may be of independent interest.
Quillen defined a {\em model category} to be a category with finite limits and colimits carrying a certain extra structure. In this paper, we show that only finite products and coproducts (in addition to the certain extra structure alluded to above) are really necessary to construct the homotopy category. This leads to the interesting observation that the homotopy category construction could feasibly be iterated.1
In this paper we give sufficient conditions for lifting an enhanced factorization system $ (\mathcal{E}, \mathcal{M}) $ on a $ 2 $-category $ \mathbf{D} $ to the functor $ 2 $-category $ \mathbf{D}^{\mathbf{C}} $, where $ \mathbf{C} $ is a small $ 2 $-category. Due to previous work of Lack, our work provides coherence results for $ 2 $-monads on functor $ 2 $-categories. These coherence results are of immediate interest to an ongoing collaboration of Guillou, May, Merling, and Osorno on equivariant infinite loop space theory.
We propose an analogue of the bounded derived category for an augmented ring spectrum, defined in terms of a notion of Noether normalization. In many cases we show this category is independent of the chosen normalization. Based on this, we define the singularity and cosingularity categories measuring the failure of regularity and coregularity and prove they are Koszul dual in the style of the BGG correspondence. Examples of interest include Koszul algebras and Ginzburg DG-algebras, $C^*(BG)$ for finite groups (or for compact Lie groups with orientable adjoint representation), cochains in ratio…
The goal of this paper is to classify fusion categories $\otimes$-generated by a $K$-normal object (defined in this paper) of Frobenius-Perron dimension less than 2. This classification has recently become accessible due to a result of Morrison and Snyder, showing that any such category must be a cyclic extension of a category of adjoint $ADE$ type. Our main tools in this classification are the results of Etingof, Ostrik, and Nikshych, classifying cyclic extensions of a given category in terms of data computed from the Brauer-Picard group, and Drinfeld centre of that category, and the results …
We extend the comatrix coring to the case of a quasi-finite bicomodule. We also generalize some of its interesting properties. We study equivalences between categories of comodules over rather general corings. We particularize to the case of the adjoint pair of functors associated to a morphism of corings over different base rings. We apply our results to corings coming from entwining structures and graded structures, and we obtain new results in the setting of entwining structures and in the graded ring theory.
In this survey we explain the results of the recent article arXiv:1806.06471. Following a 1973 article by Lawvere one can define metrics on categories, and following Kelly's 1982 book one can complete a category with respect to its metric. We specialize these general constructions to triangulated categories, and restrict our attention to "good metrics". And the remarkable new theorem is that, when we start with a triangulated category $\mathcal S$ with a good metric, its completion $\mathfrak{L}(\mathcal{S})$ contains an interesting subcategory $\mathfrak{S}(\mathcal{S})$ which is always trian…
We discuss algebraic and representation theoretic structures in braided tensor categories C which obey certain finiteness conditions. Much interesting structure of such a category is encoded in a Hopf algebra H in C. In particular, the Hopf algebra H gives rise to representations of the modular group SL(2,Z) on various morphism spaces. We also explain how every symmetric special Frobenius algebra in a semisimple modular category provides additional structure related to these representations.
In this paper we define a class of state-sum invariants of compact closed oriented piece-wise linear 4-manifolds using finite groups. The definition of these state-sums follows from the general abstract construction of 4-manifold invariants using spherical 2-categories, as we defined in a previous paper, although it requires a slight generalization of that construction. We show that the state-sum invariants of Birmingham and Rakowski, who studied Dijkgraaf-Witten type invariants in dimension 4, are special examples of the general construction that we present in this paper. They showed that the…
Category theoretic aspects of non-rational conformal field theories are discussed. We consider the case that the category C of chiral sectors is a finite tensor category, i.e. a rigid monoidal category whose class of objects has certain finiteness properties. Besides the simple objects, the indecomposable projective objects of C are of particular interest. The fusion rules of C can be block-diagonalized. A conjectural connection between the block-diagonalization and modular transformations of characters of modules over vertex algebras is exemplified with the case of the (1,p) minimal models.
