We prove an inequality that complements the famous Araki-Lieb-Thirring (ALT) inequality for positive matrices $A$ and $B$, by giving a lower bound on the quantity $\trace[A^r B^r A^r]^q$ in terms of $\trace[ABA]^{rq}$ for $0\le r\le 1$ and $q\ge0$, whereas the ALT inequality gives an upper bound. The bound contains certain norms of $A$ and $B$ as additional ingredients and is therefore of a different nature than the Kantorovich type inequality obtained by Bourin (\textit{Math. Inequal. Appl.} \textbf{8}(2005) pp. 373--378) and others. Secondly, we also prove a generalisation of the ALT inequality to general matrices.
For positive definite matrices $A$ and $B$, the Araki-Lieb-Thirring inequality amounts to an eigenvalue log-submajorisation relation for fractional powers $$λ(A^t B^t) \prec_{w(\log)} λ^t(AB), \quad 0<t\le 1,$$ while for $t\ge1$, the reversed inequality holds. In this paper I generalise this inequality, replacing the fractional powers $x^t$ by a larger class of functions. Namely, a continuous, non-negative, geometrically concave function $f$ with domain $\dom(f)=[0,x_0)$ for some positive $x_0$ (possibly infinity) satisfies $$λ(f(A) f(B)) \prec_{w(\log)} f^2(λ^{1/2}(AB)),$$ for all positive se…
Let $A$ and $B$ be positive semidefinite matrices. We investigate the conditions under which the Lieb-Thirring inequality can be extended to singular values. That is, for which values of $p$ does the majorisation $σ(B^p A^p) \prec_w σ((BA)^p)$ hold, and for which values its reversed inequality $σ(B^p A^p) \succ_w σ((BA)^p)$.
This paper is essentially derived from the observation that some results used for improving constants in the Lieb-Thirring inequalities for Schrodinger operators in L2(-\infty,\infty) can be translated to the discrete Schrodinger op- erators and more generally to Jacobi matrices. Some results were previ- ously proved by D. Hundertmark and B. Simon and the aim of this article is to improve the constants obtained in their article [7].
We prove sharp Lieb-Thirring type inequalities for the eigenvalues of a class of one-dimensional functional difference operators associated to mirror curves. We furthermore prove that the bottom of the essential spectrum of these operators is a resonance state.
The goal of this note is to prove a analogue of the Littewood-Paley decomposition for densities of operators and to use it in the context of Lieb-Thirring inequalities.
We propose a general strategy to derive Lieb-Thirring inequalities for scale-covariant quantum many-body systems. As an application, we obtain a generalization of the Lieb-Thirring inequality to wave functions vanishing on the diagonal set of the configuration space, without any statistical assumption on the particles.
We review some recent progress on Lieb-Thirring inequalities, focusing on direct methods to kinetic estimates for orthonormal functions and applications for many-body quantum systems.
We prove analogues of the Lieb-Thirring and Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for many-body quantum systems with fractional kinetic operators and homogeneous interaction potentials, where no anti-symmetry on the wave functions is assumed. These many-body inequalities imply interesting one-body interpolation inequalities, and we show that the corresponding one- and many-body inequalities are actually equivalent in certain cases.
We prove a Lieb-Thirring type inequality for potentials such that the associated Schrödinger operator has a pure discrete spectrum made of an unbounded sequence of eigenvalues. This inequality is equivalent to a generalized Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality for systems. As a special case, we prove a logarithmic Sobolev inequality for infinite systems of mixed states. Optimal constants are determined and free energy estimates in connection with mixed states representations are also investigated.
Extending a work of Carlen and Lieb, Biane has obtained the optimal hypercontractivity of the $q$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup on the $q$-deformation of the free group algebra. In this note, we look for an extension of this result to the type III situation, that is for the $q$-Araki-Woods algebras. We show that hypercontractivity from $L^p$ to $L^2$ can occur if and only if the generator of the deformation is bounded.
We review recent results on functional inequalities for systems of orthonormal functions. The key finding is that for various operators the orthonormality leads to a gain over a simple application of the triangle inequality. The operators under consideration are either related to Sobolev type inequalities or to Fourier restriction type inequalities.
Let $E_i(H)$ denote the negative eigenvalues of the one-dimensional Schrödinger operator $Hu:=-u^{\prime\prime}-Vu,\ V\geq 0,$ on $L_2({\Bbb R})$. We prove the inequality \sum_i|E_i(H)|^γ\leq L_{γ,1}\int_{\Bbb R} V^{γ+1/2}(x)dx, (1) for the "limit" case $γ=1/2.$ This will imply improved estimates for the best constants $L_{γ,1}$ in (1), as $1/2<γ<3/2.
We study the trace class perturbations of the half-line, discrete Laplacian and obtain a new bound for the perturbation determinant of the corresponding non-self-adjoint Jacobi operator. Based on this bound, we obtain the Lieb--Thirring inequalities for such operators. The spectral enclosure for the discrete spectrum and embedded eigenvalues are also discussed.
We prove Lieb-Thirring-type bounds on eigenvalues of non-selfadjoint Jacobi operators, which are nearly as strong as those proven previously for the case of selfadjoint operators by Hundertmark and Simon. We use a method based on determinants of operators and on complex function theory, extending and sharpening earlier work of Borichev, Golinskii and Kupin.
We study the trace class perturbations of the whole-line, discrete Laplacian and obtain a new bound for the perturbation determinant of the corresponding non-self-adjoint Jacobi operator. Based on this bound, we refine the Lieb--Thirring inequality due to Hansmann--Katriel. The spectral enclosure for such operators is also discussed.
We prove a Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality for arbitrary domains Ω\subset\R^N with a constant depending only on the dimension N\geq 3. In particular, for convex domains this settles a conjecture by Filippas, Maz'ya and Tertikas. As an application we derive Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for eigenvalues of Schrödinger operators on domains.
We establish Lieb-Thirring type inequalities for non self-adjoint relatively compact perturbations of certain operators of mathematical physics. We apply our results to quantum Hamiltonians of Schr{ö}dinger and Pauli with constant magnetic field of strength $b\textgreater{}0$. In particular, we use these bounds to obtain some information on the distribution of the eigenvalues of the perturbed operators in the neighborhood of their essential spectrum.
