A basic theory of cowreath or extended distributive laws in the bicategory of unital bimodules, is deciphered. Precisely, we give in terms of tensor product over a scalar base ring, a simplest and equivalent definition for cowreath over coring and for comodule over cowreath. An adjunction connecting the category of comodules over the factor coring and the category of comodules over the coring arising from the cowreath products is also given. The dual notions i.e. wreaths over rings extension and their modules are included.
Let $A$ be a ring with minimum condition on principal right ideals. It is proved that $\aleph_0$-distributive right (left) $A$-modules coincide with Artinian (Noetherian) right (left) $A$-modules. Rings, over which all right modules are direct sums of $\aleph_0$-distributive coincide with rings of of finite representation type. Rings, whose right modules are semidistributive, coincide with Kawada rings, over basis rings of which all right modules are completely cyclic. It is proved that a ring $A$ is a right or left Noetherian, right distributive centrally essential ring if and only if $A=A_1\times\cdots\times A_n$, where each of the rings $A_i$ is either a commutative Dedekind domain or a uniserial Artinian centrally essential (not necessarily commutative) ring. In recent years, centrally essential rings have been intensively studied in ring theory. In particular, they find applications in homological algebra, group rings, and the structural theory of rings. The class of essentially central rings strongly extends the class of commutative rings. For such rings, a number of recent papers contain positive answers to some important questions from ring theory that previously had positive answers for commutative rings and negative answers in the general case. This work is devoted to a similar topic. A familiar description of right Noetherian, right distribu…
Congruence lattices of semiprime algebras from semi--degenerate congruence--modular varieties fulfill the equivalences from B. A. Davey`s well--known characterization theorem for $m$--Stone bounded distributive lattices, moreover, changing the cardinalities in those equivalent conditions does not change their validity. I prove this by transferring Davey`s Theorem from bounded distributive lattices to such congruence lattices through a certain lattice morphism and using the fact that the codomain of that morphism is a frame. Furthermore, these equivalent conditions are preserved by finite direc…
Given a tensor category $\mathcal{C}$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, we may form the wreath product category $\mathcal{W}_n(\mathcal{C})$. It was shown in \cite{Ryba} that the Grothendieck rings of these wreath product categories stabilise in some sense as $n \to \infty$. The resulting "limit" ring, $\mathcal{G}_\infty^{\mathbb{Z}}(\mathcal{C})$, is isomorphic to the Grothendieck ring of the wreath product Deligne category $S_t(\mathcal{C})$ as defined by \cite{Mori}. This ring only depends on the Grothendieck ring $\mathcal{G}(\mathcal{C})$. Given a ring $R$ which …
Let $A$ be an algebra in a monoidal category $\Cc$, and let $X$ be an object in $\Cc$. We study $A$-(co)ring structures on the left $A$-module $A\ot X$. These correspond to (co)algebra structures in $EM(\Cc)(A)$, the Eilenberg-Moore category associated to $\Cc$ and $A$. The ring structures are in bijective correspondence to wreaths in $\Cc$, and their category of representations is the category of representations over the induced wreath product. The coring structures are in bijective correspondence to cowreaths in $\Cc$, and their category of corepresentations is the category of generalized en…
We consider wreath product decompositions for semigroups of triangular matrices. We exhibit an explicit wreath product decomposition for the semigroup of all n-by-n upper triangular matrices over a given field k, in terms of aperiodic semigroups and affine groups over k. In the case that k is finite this decomposition is optimal, in the sense that the number of group terms is equal to the group complexity of the semigroup. We also obtain some decompositions for semigroups of triangular matrices over more general rings and semirings.
Given a weak distributive law between algebras underlying two weak bialgebras, we present sufficient conditions under which the corresponding weak wreath product algebra becomes a weak bialgebra with respect to the tensor product coalgebra structure. When the weak bialgebras are weak Hopf algebras, then the same conditions are shown to imply that the weak wreath product becomes a weak Hopf algebra, too. Our sufficient conditions are capable to describe most known examples, (in particular the Drinfel'd double of a weak Hopf algebra).
We begin by investigating the class of commutative unital rings in which no two distinct elements divide the same elements. We prove that this class forms a finitely axiomatizable, relatively ideal distributive quasivariety, and it equals the quasivariety generated by the class of integral domains with trivial unit group. We end the paper by proving a representation theorem that provides more evidence to the conjecture that Bézout monoids describe exactly the monoids of finitely generated ideals of commutative unital rings with distributive ideal lattice.
We introduce ring theoretic constructions that are similar to the construction of wreath product of groups. In particular, for a given graph $Γ=(V,E)$ and an associate algebra $A,$ we construct an algebra $B=A\, wr\, L(Γ)$ with the following property: $B$ has an ideal $I$,which consists of (possibly infinite) matrices over $A$, $B/I\cong L(Γ)$, the Leavitt path algebra of the graph $Γ$. \medskip \par Let $W\subset V$ be a hereditary saturated subset of the set of vertices [1], $Γ(W)=(W,E(W,W))$ is the restriction of the graph $Γ$ to $W$, $Γ/W$ is the quotient graph [1]. Then $L(Γ)\cong L(W)$ w…
A result of Farahat and Higman shows that there is a ``universal'' algebra, $\mathrm{FH}$, interpolating the centres of symmetric group algebras, $Z(\mathbb{Z}S_n)$. We explain that this algebra is isomorphic to $\mathcal{R} \otimes Λ$, where $\mathcal{R}$ is the ring of integer-valued polynomials and $Λ$ is the ring of symmetric functions. Moreover, the isomorphism is via ``evaluation at Jucys-Murphy elements'', which leads to character formulae for symmetric groups. Then, we generalise this result to wreath products $Γ\wr S_n$ of a fixed finite group $Γ$. This involves constructing wreath-pr…
We study the (so-called bilinear) factorization problem answered by a weak wreath product (of monads and, more specifically, of algebras over a commutative ring) in the works by Street and by Caenepeel and De Groot. A bilinear factorization of a monad R turns out to be given by monad morphisms A --> R <-- B inducing a split epimorphism of B-A bimodules B @ A --> R. We prove a biequivalence between the bicategory of weak distributive laws and an appropriately defined bicategory of bilinear factorization structures. As an illustration of the theory, we collect some examples of algebras over comm…
We prove the following result: Theorem. Every algebraic distributive lattice D with at most $\aleph\_1$ compact elements is isomorphic to the ideal lattice of a von Neumann regular ring R. (By earlier results of the author, the $\aleph\_1$ bound is optimal.) Therefore, D is also isomorphic to the congruence lattice of a sectionally complemented modular lattice L, namely, the principal right ideal lattice of R. Furthermore, if the largest element of D is compact, then one can assume that R is unital, respectively, that L has a largest element. This extends several known results of G.M. Bergman,…
We use elementary methods to compute the L2-dimension of the eigenspaces of the Markov operator on the lamplighter group and of generalizations of this operator on other groups. In particular, we give a transparent explanation of the spectral measure of the Markov operator on the lamplighter group found by Grigorchuk-Zuk. The latter result was used by Grigorchuk-Linnell-Schick-Zuk to produce a counterexample to a strong version of the Atiyah conjecture about the range of L2-Betti numbers. We use our results to construct manifolds with certain L2-Betti numbers (given as convergent infinite sums…
We study comodule functors for comonads arising from mixed distributive laws. Their Galois property is reformulated in terms of a (so-called) regular arrow in Street's bicategory of comonads. Between categories possessing equalizers, we introduce the notion of a regular adjunction. An equivalence is proven between the category of pre-torsors over two regular adjunctions $(N_A,R_A)$ and $(N_B,R_B)$ on one hand, and the category of regular comonad arrows $(R_A,ξ)$ from some equalizer preserving comonad ${\mathbb C}$ to $N_BR_B$ on the other. This generalizes a known relationship between pre-tors…
Any Schur ring is uniquely determined by a partition of the elements of the group. An open question in the study of Schur rings is determining which partitions of the group induce a Schur ring. Although a structure theorem is available for Schur rings over cyclic groups, it is still a difficult problem to count all the partitions. For example, Kovacs, Liskovets, and Poschel determine formulas to count the number of wreath-indecomposable Schur rings. In this paper we solve the problem of counting the number of all Schur rings over cyclic groups of prime power order and draw some parallels with …
In an attempt to understand the origins and the nature of the law binding together two group operations into a {\em skew brace}, introduced in [L.\ Guarnieri \& L.\ Vendramin, Math.\ Comp.\ \textbf{86} (2017), 2519--2534] as a non-Abelian version of the {\em brace distributive law} of [W.\ Rump, J.\ Algebra {\bf 307} (2007), 153--170] and [F.\ Cedó, E.\ Jespers \& J.\ Okniński, Commun.\ Math.\ Phys.\ {\bf 327} (2014), 101--116], the notion of a {\em skew truss} is proposed. A skew truss consists of a set with a group operation and a semigroup operation connected by a modified distributive law …
We consider the structure of groups and algebras that can be represented as automorphisms or derivations of distributive products -- which includes nonassociative rings, modules, forms, and commutation of groups and nonassociative loops. In many ways this is too broad to be possible, for instance even naive structure, such as inner automorphisms and derivations, are undefined for general bilinear maps. The appeal for working in this generality is broad applicability. We introduce fundamental structures and prove several results akin to ones in ring theory, including theorems of Morita and of S…
The definition of Azumaya algebras over commutative rings $R$ require the tensor product of modules over $R$ and the twist map for the tensor product of any two $R$-modules. Similar constructions are available in braided monoidal categories and Azumaya algebras were defined in these settings. Here we introduce Azumaya monads on any category $\A$ by considering a monad $\bF$ on $\A$ endowed with a distributive law $λ: FF\to FF$ satisfying the Yang-Baxter equation (BD-law). This allows to introduce an {\em opposite monad} $\bF^\la$ and a monad structure on $FF^\la$. For an {\em Azumaya monad} we…
