Sharp $L^p$ extensions of Pitt's inequality expressed as a weighted Sobolev inequality are obtained using convolution estimates and Stein-Weiss potentials. More generally, optimal constants are obtained for the full Stein-Weiss potential as a map from $L^p$ to itself, and new proofs are given for the classical Pitt and Stein-Weiss estimates.
This work is devoted to improve the time decay estimates for the solution and some of its derivatives of the linear structurally damped $σ$-evolution equations. The Pitt inequality is the main tool provided that the initial data lies in some weighted spaces.
Sharp error estimates in terms of the fractional Laplacian and a weighted Besov norm are obtained for Pitt's inequality by using the spectral representation with weights for the fractional Laplacian due to Frank, Lieb and Seiringer and the sharp Stein-Weiss inequality. Dilation invariance, group symmetry on a non-unimodular group and a nonlinear Stein-Weiss lemma are used to provide short proofs of the Frank-Seiringer "Hardy inequalities" where fractional smoothness is measured by a Besov norm.
Three novel multilinear embedding estimates for the fractional Laplacian are obtained in terms of trace integrals restricted to the diagonal. The resulting sharp inequalities may be viewed as extensions of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality, the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality and Pitt's inequality.
Sharp extensions of Pitt's inequality and bounds for Stein-Weiss fractional integrals are obtained that incorporate gradient forms and vector-valued operators. Such results include Hardy-Rellich inequalities.
We use Pitt inequalities for the Fourier transform to prove the following weighted gradient inequality $$ \|e^{-τ\ell(\cdot)} u^{\frac 1q} f\|_q\leq c_τ\| e^{-τ\ell(\cdot)} v^{\frac 1p}\, \nabla f\|_p, \quad f\in C^\infty_0( R^n). $$ This inequality is a Carleman-type estimate that yields unique continuation results for solutions of first order differential equations and systems.
Multilinear trace restriction inequalities are obtained for Hardy's inequality. More generally, detailed development is given for new multilinear forms for Young's convolution inequality, and a new proof for the multilinear Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality, and its realization on hyperbolic space.
Let $d\ge 2$ and $T$ be the convolution operator $Tf(x)=\int_{\reals^{d-1}} f(x'-t,x_d-|t|^2)\,dt$, which is is bounded from $L^{(d+1)/d}(\reals^d)$ to $L^{d+1}(\reals^d)$. We show that any critical point $f\in L^{(d+1)/d}$ of the functional $\norm{Tf}_{d+1}/\norm{f}_{(d+1)/d}$ is infinitely differentiable, and that $|x|^δf\in L^{(d+1)/d}$ for some $δ>0$. In particular, this holds for all extremizers of the associated inequality. This is done by exploiting a generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, and certain weighted norm inequalities for $T$.
This paper is devoted to logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities in the two-dimensional Euclidean space, in presence of an external potential with logarithmic growth. The coupling with the potential introduces a new parameter, with two regimes. The attractive regime reflects the standard logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. The second regime corresponds to a reverse inequality, with the opposite sign in the convolution term, that allows us to bound the free energy of a drift-diffusion-Poisson system from below. Our method is based on an extension of an entropy method prop…
Linear interpolation inequalities that combine Hardy's inequality with sharp Sobolev embedding are obtained using classical arguments of Hardy and Littlewood (Bliss lemma). Such results are equivalent to Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities with sharp constants. A one-dimensional convolution inequality for the exponential density is derived as an application of these methods.
The well known duality between the Sobolev inequality and the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality suggests that the Nash inequality could also have an interesting dual form, even though the Nash inequality relates three norms instead of two. We provide such a dual form here with sharp constants. This dual inequality relates the $L^2$ norm to the infimal convolution of the $L^\infty $ and $H^{-1}$ norms. The computation of this infimal convolution is a minimization problem, which we solve explicitly, thus providing a new proof of the sharp Nash inequality itself. This proof, via duality, also y…
We study the inequality $ -Δu - \fracμ{|x|^2} u \geq (|x|^{-α} * u^p)u^q$ in an unbounded cone $\mathcal{C}_Ω^ρ\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ ($N\geq 2$) generated by a subdomain $Ω$ of the unit sphere $S^{N-1}\subset \mathbb{R}^N,$ $p, q, ρ>0$, $μ\in \mathbb{R}$ and $0\leq α< N$. In the above, $|x|^{-α} * u^p$ denotes the standard convolution operator in the cone $\mathcal{C}_Ω^ρ$. We discuss the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions in terms of $N, p, q, α, μ$ and $Ω$. Extensions to systems of inequalities are also investigated.
The aim of this paper is to study the critical elliptic equations with Stein-Weiss type convolution parts $$ \displaystyle-Δu =\frac{1}{|x|^α}\left(\int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}\frac{|u(y)|^{2_{α, μ}^{\ast}}}{|x-y|^μ|y|^α}dy\right) |u|^{2_{α, μ}^{\ast}-2}u,~~~x\in\mathbb{R}^{N}, $$ where the critical exponent is due to the weighted Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality and Sobolev embedding. We develop a nonlocal version of concentration-compactness principle to investigate the existence of solutions and study the regularity, symmetry of positive solutions by moving plane arguments. In the second part, …
We present remarkably simple proofs of Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequalities for stochastic integrals and maximal inequalities for stochastic convolutions in Banach spaces driven by Lévy-type processes. Exponential estimates for stochastic convolutions are obtained and two versions of Itô's formula in Banach spaces are also derived. Based on the obtained maximal inequality, the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions of stochastic quasi-geostrophic equation with Lévy noise is established.
We study integrability properties of a general version of the Boltzmann collision operator for hard and soft potentials in $n$-dimensions. A reformulation of the collisional integrals allows us to write the weak form of the collision operator as a weighted convolution, where the weight is given by an operator invariant under rotations. Using a symmetrization technique in $L^p$ we prove a Young's inequality for hard potentials, which is sharp for Maxwell molecules in the $L^2$ case. Further, we find a new Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev type of inequality for Boltzmann collision integrals with soft po…
Given three transversal and sufficiently regular hypersurfaces in R^3 it follows from work of Bennett-Carbery-Wright that the convolution of two L^2 functions supported of the first and second hypersurface, respectively, can be restricted to an L^2 function on the third hypersurface, which can be considered as a nonlinear version of the Loomis-Whitney inequality. We generalize this result to a class of C^{1,beta} hypersurfaces in R^3, under scaleable assumptions. The resulting uniform L^2 estimate has applications to nonlinear dispersive equations.
This paper introduces certain elliptic Harnack inequalities for harmonic functions in the setting of the product space $M \times X$, where $M$ is a (weighted) Riemannian Manifold and $X$ is a countable graph. Since some standard arguments for the elliptic case fail in this "mixed" setting, we adapt ideas introduced by Thierry Delmotte for the discrete parabolic case. We then present some useful applications of this inequality, namely, a kernel estimate for functions of the Laplacian on a graph. This application in turn provides sharp estimates for certain Markov kernels on graphs. We then clos…
