F.Linares, G.Ponce, J-C.Saut have proved that a non-fully dispersive Zakharov system arising in the study of Laser-plasma interaction, is locally well posed in the whole space, for fields vanishing at infinity. Here we show that in the periodic case, seen as a model for fields non-vanishing at infinity, the system develops strong instabilities of Hadamard's type, implying that the Cauchy problem is strongly ill-posed.

Space Propagation of Instabilities in Zakharov Equations

In this paper we study an initial boundary value problem for Zakharov's equations, describing the space propagation of a laser beam entering in a plasma. We prove a strong instability result and prove that the mathematical problem is ill-posed in Sobolev spaces. We also show that it is well posed in spaces of analytic functions. Several consequences for the physical consistency of the model are discussed.

The Cauchy problem for the Euler-Poisson system and derivation of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

We consider in this paper the rigorous justification of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation from the Euler-Poisson system for uniformly magnetized plasmas. We first provide a proof of the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the aforementioned system in dimensions two and three. Then we prove that the long-wave small-amplitude limit is described by the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. This is done first in the case of cold plasma; we then show how to extend this result in presence of the isothermal pressure term with uniform estimates when this latter goes to zero.

Uniqueness results for Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

In this paper we study uniqueness properties of solutions to the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation of plasma physic. Given two sufficiently regular solutions $u_1, u_2,$ we prove that, if $u_1-u_2$ decays fast enough at two distinct times, then $u_1\equiv u_2.$

The Transverse Instability of Periodic Waves in Zakharov-Kuznetsov Type Equations

In this paper, we investigate the instability of one-dimensionally stable periodic traveling wave solutions of the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation to long wavelength transverse perturbations in the generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in two space dimensions. By deriving appropriate asymptotic expansions of the periodic Evans function, we derive an index which yields sufficient conditions for transverse instabilities to occur. Derivation of the Zakharov equations

This paper continues the study of the validity of the Zakharov model describing Langmuir turbulence. We give an existence theorem for a class of singular quasilinear equations. This theorem is valid for well-prepared initial data. The Structure of Global Attractors for Dissipative Zakharov Systems with Forcing on the Torus

The Zakharov system was originally proposed to study the propagation of Langmuir waves in an ionized plasma. In this paper, motivated by earlier work of the first and third authors, we numerically and analytically investigate the dynamics of the dissipative Zakharov system on the torus in 1 dimension. We find an interesting family of stable periodic orbits and fixed points, and explore bifurcations of those points as we take weaker and weaker dissipation.

Space-time resonances and high-frequency Raman instabilities in the two-fluid Euler-Maxwell system

We show that space-time resonances induce high-frequency Raman instabilities in the two-fluid Euler-Maxwell system describing laser-plasma interactions. A consequence is that the Zakharov WKB approximation to Euler-Maxwell is unstable for non-zero group velocities. A key step in the proof is the reformulation of the set of resonant frequencies as the locus of weak hyperbolicity for linearized equations around the WKB solution. Asymptotic Stability of high-dimensional Zakharov-Kuznetsov solitons
