We obtain combinatorial model categories of parametrised spectra, together with systems of base change Quillen adjunctions associated to maps of parameter spaces. In this article, we extend Sullivan's PL de Rham theory to obtain simple algebraic models for the rational homotopy theory of parametrised spectra. This simplifies and complements the results of arXiv:1910.14608, which are based on Quillen's rational homotopy theory. We show how a suitably twisted Spin-cobordism spectrum connects to the question of existence of metrics of positive scalar curvature on closed, smooth manifolds by building on fundamental work of Gromov, Lawson, Rosenberg, Stolz and others. We then investigate this parametrised spectrum, compute its $mod~2$-cohomology and generalise the Anderson-Brown-Peterson splitting of the regular Spin-cobordism spectrum to the twisted case. Along the way we also describe the $mod~2$-cohomology of various twisted, connective covers of real K-theory.
The virtual cohomology of an orbifold is a ring structure on the cohomology of the inertia orbifold whose product is defined via the pull-push formalism and the Euler class of the excess intersection bundle. We present a cocycle model for elliptic cohomology with complex coefficients in which methods from 2-dimensional quantum field theory can be used to rigorously construct cocycles. For example, quantizing a theory of vector bundle-valued fermions yields a cocycle representative of the elliptic Thom class. This constructs the complexified string orientation of elliptic cohomology, which determines a pushfoward for families of rational string manifolds. The classical cycle class map for a smooth complex variety sends cycles in the Chow ring to cycles in the singular cohomology ring. We study two cycle class maps for smooth real varieties: the map from the I-cohomology ring to singular cohomology induced by the signature, and a new cycle class map defined on the Chow-Witt ring. For both maps, we establish basic compatibility results like compatibility with pullbacks, pushforwards and cup products. As a first application of these general results, we show that both cycle class maps are isomorphisms for cellular varieties.
The apparatus of motivic stable homotopy theory provides a notion of Euler characteristic for smooth projective varieties, valued in the Grothendieck-Witt ring of the base field. Previous work of the first author and recent work of Déglise-Jin-Khan establishes a "Gauß-Bonnet formula" relating this Euler characteristic to pushforwards of Euler classes in motivic cohomology theories.
