In this paper we characterize the limiting behavior of sums of extreme values of long range dependent sequences defined as functionals of linear processes with finite variance. The extremal sums behave completely different by compared to the i.i.d case. In particular, though we still have asymptotic normality, the scaling factor is relatively bigger than in the i.i.d case, meaning that the maximal terms have relatively smaller contribution to the whole sum. Also, the scaling need not depend on the tail index of the underlying marginal distribution, as it is well-known to be so in the i.i.d. situation. Furthermore, subordination may completely change the asymptotic properties of sums of extremes.
A general moment bound for sums of products of Gaussian vector's functions extending the moment bound in Taqqu (1977, Lemma 4.5) is established. A general central limit theorem for triangular arrays of nonlinear functionals of multidimensional non-stationary Gaussian sequences is proved. This theorem extends the previous results of Breuer and Major (1981), Arcones (1994) and others. A Berry-Esseen-type bound in the above-mentioned central limit theorem is derived following Nourdin, Peccati and Podolskij (2011). Two applications of the above results are discussed. The first one refers to the as…

For moving average processes with random coefficients and heavy-tailed innovations that are weakly dependent in the sense of strong mixing and local dependence condition $D'$ we study joint functional convergence of partial sums and maxima. Under the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series we derive a functional limit theorem in the space of $\mathbb{R}^{2}$-valued càdlàg functions on $[0, 1]$ with the Skorokhod weak $M_{2}$ topology.
We study asymptotic behaviour of stochastic approximation procedures with three main characteristics: truncations with random moving bounds, a matrix valued random step-size sequence, and a dynamically changing random regression function. In particular, we show that under quite mild conditions, stochastic approximation procedures are asymptotically linear in the statistical sense, that is, they can be represented as weighted sums of random variables. Therefore, a suitable form of the central limit theorem can be applied to derive asymptotic distribution of the corresponding processes. The theo…
The extremal tail probabilities of moving sums in a marked Poisson random field is examined here. These sums are computed by adding up the weighted occurrences of events lying within a scanning set of fixed shape and size. Change of measure and analysis of local random fields are used to provide tail probabilities. The asymptotic constants are initially expressed in a form that seems hard to evaluate and do not seem to provide any additional information on the properties of the constants. A more sophisticated approach is then undertaken giving rise to an expression that is not only neater but …
General Central limit theorem deals with weak limits (in type) of sums of row-elements of array random variables. In some situations as in the invariance principle problem, the sums may include only parts of the row-elements. For strictly stationary arrays (stationary for each row), there is no change to the asymptotic results. But for non-stationary data, especially for dependent data, asymptotic laws of partial sums moving in rows may require extra-conditions to exist. This paper deals with central limit theorems with Gaussian limits for non-stationary data. Our main focus is on dependent da…
We obtain limit theorems for a class of nonlinear discrete-time processes $X(n)$ called the $k$-th order Volterra processes of order $k$. These are moving average $k$-th order polynomial forms: \[ X(n)=\sum_{0<i_1,\ldots,i_k<\infty}a(i_1,\ldots,i_k)ε_{n-i_1}\ldotsε_{n-i_k}, \] where $\{ε_i\}$ is i.i.d.\ with $\mathbb{E} ε_i=0$, $\mathbb{E} ε_i^2=1$, where $a(\cdot)$ is a nonrandom coefficient, and where the diagonals are included in the summation. We specify conditions for $X(n)$ to be well-defined in $L^2(Ω)$, and focus on central and non-central limit theorems. We show that normalized partia…
In this paper we obtain Berry-Esseén bounds on partial sums of functionals of heavy-tailed moving averages, including the linear fractional stable noise, stable fractional ARIMA processes and stable Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. Our rates are obtained for the Wasserstein and Kolmogorov distances, and depend strongly on the interplay between the memory of the process, which is controlled by a parameter $α$, and its tail-index, which is controlled by a parameter $β$. In fact, we obtain the classical $\sqrt{1/ n}$ rate of convergence when the tails are not too heavy and the memory is not too stro…
We study functional convergence of sums of moving averages with random coefficients and heavy-tailed innovations. Under some standard moment conditions and the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series we obtain functional convergence of the corresponding partial sum stochastic process in the space $D[0,1]$ of càdlàg functions with the Skorohod $M_{2}$ topology.
We investigate the sums $(1/\sqrt{H}) \sum_{X < n \leq X+H} χ(n)$, where $χ$ is a fixed non-principal Dirichlet character modulo a prime $q$, and $0 \leq X \leq q-1$ is uniformly random. Davenport and Erdős, and more recently Lamzouri, proved central limit theorems for these sums provided $H \rightarrow \infty$ and $(\log H)/\log q \rightarrow 0$ as $q \rightarrow \infty$, and Lamzouri conjectured these should hold subject to the much weaker upper bound $H=o(q/\log q)$. We prove this is false for some $χ$, even when $H = q/\log^{A}q$ for any fixed $A > 0$. On the other hand, we show it is true…
We consider the process of partial sums of moving averages of finite order with a regular varying memory function, constructed from a stationary sequence, variance of the sum of which is a regularly varying function. We study the Gaussian approximation of this process of partial sums with the aid of a certain class of Gaussian processes, and obtain sufficient conditions for the $C$-convergence in the invariance principle in the Donsker form
Recently a functional limit theorem for sums of moving averages with random coefficients and i.i.d. heavy tailed innovations has been obtained under the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series. The convergence takes place in the space $D[0,1]$ of càdlàg functions with the Skorohod $M_{2}$ topology. In this article we extend this result to the case when the innovations are weakly dependent in the sense of strong mixing and local dependence condition $D'$.
We consider high-frequency sampled continuous-time autoregressive moving average (CARMA) models driven by finite-variance zero-mean Lévy processes. An L^2-consistent estimator for the increments of the driving Lévy process without order selection in advance is proposed if the CARMA model is invertible. In the second part we analyse the high-frequency behaviour of approximating Riemann sum processes, which represent a natural way to simulate continuous-time moving average processes on a discrete grid. We shall compare their autocovariance structure with the one of sampled CARMA processes, where…
We prove a central limit theorem for random sums of the form $\sum_{i=1}^{N_n} X_i$, where $\{X_i\}_{i \geq 1}$ is a stationary $m-$dependent process and $N_n$ is a random index independent of $\{X_i\}_{i\geq 1}$. Our proof is a generalization of Chen and Shao's result for i.i.d. case and consequently we recover their result. Also a variation of a recent result of Shang on $m-$dependent sequences is obtained as a corollary. Examples on moving averages and descent processes are provided, and possible applications on non-parametric statistics are discussed.
In this paper we extend the refined second-order Poincaré inequality for Poisson functionals from a one-dimensional to a multi-dimensional setting. Its proof is based on a multivariate version of the Malliavin-Stein method for normal approximation on Poisson spaces. We also present an application to partial sums of vector-valued functionals of heavy-tailed moving averages. The extension allows a functional with multivariate arguments, i.e. multiple moving averages and also multivariate values of the functional. Such a set-up has previously not been explored in the framework of stable moving av…
Let $\{Y_i,-\infty<i<\infty\}$ be a doubly infinite sequence of identically distributed, negatively dependent random variables under sub-linear expectations, $\{a_i,-\infty<i<\infty\}$ be an absolutely summable sequence of real numbers. In this article, we study complete convergence and Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund strog law of large numbers for the partial sums of moving average processes $\{X_n=\sum_{i=-\infty}^{\infty}a_{i}Y_{i+n},n\ge 1\}$ based on the sequence $\{Y_i,-\infty<i<\infty\}$ of identically distributed, negatively dependent random variables under sub-linear expectations, complementing…
We discuss invariance principles for autoregressive tempered fractionally integrated moving averages in $α$-stable $(1< α\le 2)$ i.i.d. innovations and related tempered linear processes with vanishing tempering parameter $λ\sim λ_*/N$. We show that the limit of the partial sums process takes a different form in the weakly tempered ($λ_* = 0$), strongly tempered ($λ_* = \infty$), and moderately tempered ($0<λ_* < \infty$) cases. These results are used to derive the limit distribution of the OLS estimate of AR(1) unit root with weakly, strongly, and moderately tempered moving average errors.
Consider a branching random walk in which the offspring distribution and the moving law both depend on an independent and identically distributed random environment indexed by the time. For the normalised counting measure of the number of particles of generation $n$ in a given region, we give the second and third orders asymptotic expansions of the central limit theorem under rather weak assumptions on the moments of the underlying branching and moving laws. The obtained results and the developed approaches shed light on higher order expansions. In the proofs, the Edgeworth expansion of central…
Under an appropriate regular variation condition, the affinely normalized partial sums of a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables converges weakly to a non-Gaussian stable random variable. A functional version of this is known to be true as well, the limit process being a stable Lévy process. The main result in the paper is that for a stationary, regularly varying sequence for which clusters of high-threshold excesses can be broken down into asymptotically independent blocks, the properly centered partial sum process still converges to a stable Lévy process. Due …
We start with an i.i.d. sequence and consider the product of two polynomial-forms moving averages based on that sequence. The coefficients of the polynomial forms are asymptotically slowly decaying homogeneous functions so that these processes have long memory. The product of these two polynomial forms is a stationary nonlinear process. Our goal is to obtain limit theorems for the normalized sums of this product process in three cases: exclusion of the diagonal terms of the polynomial form, inclusion, or the mixed case (one polynomial form excludes the diagonals while the other one includes th…
