We will present a collection of guessing principles which have a similar relationship to $\diamond$ as cardinal invariants of the continuum have to $\CH$. The purpose is to provide a means for systematically analyzing $\diamond$ and its consequences. It also provides for a unified approach for understanding the status of a number of consequences of $\CH$ and $\diamond$ in models such as those of Laver, Miller, and Sacks.

Joint diamonds and Laver diamonds

The concept of jointness for guessing principles, specifically $\diamondsuit_κ$ and various Laver diamonds, is introduced. A family of guessing sequences is joint if the elements of any given sequence of targets may be simultaneously guessed by the members of the family. While equivalent in the case of $\diamondsuit_κ$, joint Laver diamonds are nontrivial new objects. We give equiconsistency results for most of the large cardinals under consideration and prove sharp separations between joint Laver diamonds of different lengths in the case of $θ$-supercompact cardinals.

Compactness and Guessing Principles in the Radin Extensions

We investigate the interaction between compactness principles and guessing principles in the Radin forcing extensions. In particular, we show that in any Radin forcing extension with respect to a measure sequence on $κ$, if $κ$ is weakly compact, then $\diamondsuit(κ)$ holds. This provides contrast with a well-known theorem of Woodin, who showed that in a certain Radin extension over a suitably prepared ground model relative to the existence of large cardinals, the diamond principle fails at a strongly inaccessible Mahlo cardinal. A parametrized diamond principle and union ultrafilters

We consider a cardinal invariant closely related to Hindman's theorem. We prove that this cardinal invariant is small in the iterated Sacks perfect set forcing model, and that its corresponding parametrized diamond principle implies the existence of union ultrafilters. As a corollary, this establishes the existence of union ultrafilters in the iterated Sacks model of Set Theory.

Parametrized Measuring and Club Guessing

We introduce Strong Measuring, a maximal strengthening of J. T. Moore's Measuring principle, which asserts that every collection of fewer than continuum many closed bounded subsets of $ω_1$ is measured by some club subset of $ω_1$. The consistency of Strong Measuring with the negation of CH is shown, solving an open problem from about parametrized measuring principles. Specifically, we prove that Strong Measuring follows from MRP together with Martin's Axiom for $σ$-centered forcings, as well as from BPFA. We also consider strong versions of Measuring in the absence of the Axiom of Choice.

Selectively (a)-spaces from almost disjoint families are necessarily countable under a certain parametrized weak diamond principle

The second author has recently shown ([20]) that any selectively (a) almost disjoint family must have cardinality strictly less than $2^{\alpeh_0}$, so under the Continuum Hypothesis such a family is necessarily countable. However, it is also shown in the same paper that $2^{\alpeh_0} < 2^{\alpeh_1}$ alone does not avoid the existence of uncountable selectively (a) almost disjoint families.
