The classical problem of computing a complete system of Stokes multipliers of a linear system of ODEs of rank one in terms of some connection coefficients of an associated hypergeometric system of ODEs, is solved with no genericness assumptions on the residue matrix at zero, by an extension of the method of [3].
We consider a second order reducible equation having non-resonant irregular singularities at $x=0$ and $x=\infty$. Both of them are of Poincaré rank 1. We introduce a small complex parameter $\varepsilon$ that splits together $x=0$ and $x=\infty$ into four different Fuchsian singularities $x_L=-\sqrt{\varepsilon}, x_R=\sqrt{\varepsilon}$ and $x_{LL}=-1/\sqrt{\varepsilon}, x_{RR}=1/\sqrt{\varepsilon}$, respectively. The perturbed equation is a second order reducible Fuchsian equation with 4 different singularities, i.e. a Heun type equation. Then we prove that when the perturbed equation has ex…
This article studies a confluence of a pair of regular singular points to an irregular one in a generic family of time-dependent Hamiltonian systems in dimension 2. This is a general setting for the understanding of the degeneration of the sixth Painleve equation to the fifth one. The main result is a theorem of sectoral normalization of the family to an integrable formal normal form, through which is explained the relation between the local monodromy operators at the two regular singularities and the non-linear Stokes phenomenon at the irregular singularity of the limit system. The problem of…
We introduce a new rigorous method, based on Borel summability and asymptotic constants of motion generalizing \cite{invent} and \cite{ode1}, to analyze singular behavior of nonlinear ODEs in a neighborhood of infinity and provide global information about their solutions. In equations with the Painlevé-Kowalevski (P-K) property (stating that movable singularities are not branched) it allows for solving connection problems. The analysis in carried in detail for P$_1$, $y"=6y^2+z$, for which we find the Stokes multipliers in closed form and global asymptotics for solutions having power-like beha…
An explicit description of a multidimensional Stokes phenomenon for a Gelfand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky system associated with a lattice of rank one is given.
We give a definition of the topological local Laplace transformation for a Stokes-filtered local system on the complex affine line and we compute in a topological way the Stokes data of the Laplace transform of a differential system of elementary type.
For a second-order linear differential equation with two irregular singular points of rank three, multiple Laplace-type contour integral solutions are considered. An explicit formula in terms of the Stokes multipliers is derived for the characteristic exponent of the multiplicative solutions. The Stokes multipliers are represented by converging series with terms for which limit formulas as well as more detailed asymptotic expansions are available. Here certain new, recursively known coefficients enter, which are closely related to but different from the coefficients of the formal solutions at …
A system in a Birkhoff normal form with an irregular singularity of Poincare rank 1 at the origin and a regular singularity at infinity is through the Borel-Laplace transform dual to a system in an Okubo form. Schafke has showed that the Birkhoff system can also be obtained from the Okubo system by a simple limiting procedure. The Okubo system comes naturally with two kinds of mixed solution bases, both of which converge under the limit procedure to the canonical solutions of the limit Birkhoff system on sectors near the irregular singularity at the origin. One can then define Stokes matrices …
In this paper we study the confluence of two regular singular points of the hypergeometric equation into an irregular one. We study the consequence of the divergence of solutions at the irregular singular point for the unfolded system. Our study covers a full neighborhood of the origin in the confluence parameter space. In particular, we show how the divergence of solutions at the irregular singular point explains the presence of logarithmic terms in the solutions at a regular singular point of the unfolded system. For this study, we consider values of the confluence parameter taken in two sec…
We give sufficient conditions, on data including the monodromy representation, the Stokes matrices and the Poincare ranks at prescribed singularities, to solve the generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem with irregular singularities. We recover in particular the irreducibility condition on the monodromy given by Bolibrukh and Kostov in the classical case. We apply the above criteria to solve the inverse problem in differential Galois theory with a better control of the singularities.
Let $\mathcal M$ be a holonomic algebraic $\mathcal D$-module on the affine line, regular everywhere including at infinity. Malgrange gave a complete description of the Fourier-Laplace transform $\widehat{\mathcal M}$, including its Stokes multipliers at infinity, in terms of the quiver of $\mathcal M$. Let $F$ be the perverse sheaf of holomorphic solutions to $\mathcal M$. By the irregular Riemann-Hilbert correspondence, $\widehat{\mathcal M}$ is determined by the enhanced Fourier-Sato transform $F^\curlywedge$ of $F$. Our aim here is to recover Malgrange's result in a purely topological way,…
In this paper we study analytic (linear or) nonlinear systems of ordinary differential equations, at an irregular singularity of rank one, under nonresonance conditions. It is shown that the formal asymptotic exponential series solutions (transseries solutions: countable linear combinations of formal power series multiplied by small exponentials) are Borel summable in a generalized sense along any direction in which the exponentials decay. Conversely, any solution that decreases along some direction is the Borel sum of a transseries. The summation procedure introduced is an extension of Borel …
We study an irregular singularity of Poincaré rank 1 at the origin of a certain third-order linear solvable homogeneous ODE. We perturb the equation by introducing a small parameter $\varepsilon\in (\mathbb{R}_+, 0)\,(\varepsilon < 1)$ which causes the splitting of the irregular singularity into two finite Fuchsian singularities. We show that when the solutions of the perturbed equation contain logarithmic terms, the Stokes matrices of the initial equation are limits of the part of the monodromy matrices around the finite resonant Fuchsian singularities of the perturbed equation.
The article studies the Fifth Painlevé equation and of the nonlinear Stokes phenomenon at its irregular singularity at infinity from the point of view of confluence from the Sixth Painlevé equation. This approach is developped separately on both sides of the Riemann-Hilbert correspondance. On the side of the nonlinear Painlevé-Okamoto foliation the relation between the nonlinear monodromy group of Painlevé VI and the "nonlinear wild monodromy pseudogroup" of Painlevé V (that is the pseudogroup generated by nonlinear monodromy, nonlinear Stokes operators and nonlinear exponential torus) is expl…
In this, paper, we give a complete system of analytic invariants for the unfoldings of nonresonant linear differential systems with an irregular singularity of Poincaré rank 1 at the origin over a fixed neighborhood $D_r$. The unfolding parameter $ε$ is taken in a sector S pointed at the origin of opening larger than $2 π$ in the complex plane, thus covering a whole neighborhood of the origin. For each parameter value in S, we cover $D_r$ with two sectors and, over each sector, we construct a well chosen basis of solutions of the unfolded linear differential systems. This basis is used to find…
We prove that for divergent series solutions of nonlinear (or linear) differential systems near a generic irregular singularity, the common prescription of summation to the least term is, if properly interpreted, meaningful and correct, and we extend this method to transseries solutions. In every direction in the complex plane at the singularity (Stokes directions {\em not} excepted) there exists a nonempty set of solutions whose difference from the ``optimally'' (i.e., near the least term) truncated asymptotic series is of the same (exponentially small) order of magnitude as the least term of…
We consider a Pfaffian system expressing isomonodromy of an irregular system of Okubo type, depending on complex deformation parameters u=(u_1,...,u_n), which are eigenvalues of the leading matrix at the irregular singuilarity. At the same time, we consider a Pfaffian system of non-normalized Schlesinger type expressing isomonodromy of a Fuchsian system, whose poles are the deformation parameters u_1,...,u_n. The parameters vary in a polydisc containing a coalescence locus for the eigenvalues of the leading matrix of the irregular system, corresponding to confluence of the Fuchsian singulariti…
