This paper presents the first reformulations in positive characteristic of the Jacobian conjecture in zero characteristic, thanks to methods of model theory. Such reformulations are usefull for the proof of the equivalence of Jacobian, Dixmier and Poisson conjectures in any characteristic, as explained in another ArXiv preprint
The main theorem (2.2) consists in two characterizations of isomorphisms of factorial domains in terms of prime or primary rings elements, and unramified, flat or weakly injective affine schemes morphisms. In order to apply this theorem to the famous Jacobian Conjecture, we first introduce its different versions in any characteristic (3.1), and give two reformulations of some these versions in terms of domains of positive characteristic (3.8) and finite prime fields (3.9). Finally, we deduce from the main theorem an original reformulation of the any characteristic version of the Jacobian Conjecture in terms of prime or primary rings elements (3.11).
A family of curves over a discrete valuation ring is called semi-factorial if every line bundle on the generic fibre extends to a line bundle on the total space. In the nodal case, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for semi-factoriality, in terms of combinatorics of the dual graph of the special fibre. In particular, we show that performing one blow-up centered at the non-regular closed points yields a semi-factorial model of the generic fibre. As an application, we extend Raynaud's construction of the Néron (lft)-model of the jacobian of the generic fibre of a family of nodal curve…
This paper considers the family $\mathscr{S}_0$ of smooth affine factorial surfaces of logarithmic Kodaira dimension 0 with trivial units over an algebraically closed field $k$. Our main result (Theorem 4.1) is that the number of isomorphism classes represented in $\mathscr{S}_0$ is at least countably infinite. This contradicts the earlier classification of Gurjar and Miyanishi [5] which asserted that $\mathscr{S}_0$ has at most two elements up to isomorphism when $k=\mathbb{C}$. Thus, the classification of surfaces in $\mathscr{S}_0$ for the field $\mathbb{C}$, long thought to have been settl…
We prove for a tropical rational map that if for any point the convex hull of Jacobian matrices at smooth points in a neighborhood of the point does not contain singular matrices then the map is an isomorphism. We also show that a tropical polynomial map on the plane is an isomorphism if all the Jacobians have the same sign (positive or negative). In addition, for a tropical rational map we prove that if the Jacobians have the same sign and if its preimage is a singleton at least at one regular point then the map is an isomorphism.
We consider the moduli space $\cSU_C^s(r,\cO_C)$ of rank r stable vector bundles with trivial determinant on a smooth projective curve $C$ of genus $g$. We show that the Abel-Jacobi map on the rational Chow group $CH_1(\cSU_C^s(r,\cO_C))_{hom}\otimes \Q$ of one cycles which are homologous to zero, is an isomorphism onto the bottom weight intermediate Jacobian, which is identified with the Jacobian $Jac(C)\otimes \Q$. The result holds whenever $r\geq 2$ and $g\geq 4$.
We have studied a faded problem, the Jacobian Conjecture ~: \noindent {\sf The Jacobian Conjecture $(JC_n)$}~: If $f_1, \cdots, f_n$ are elements in a polynomial ring $k[X_1, \cdots, X_n]$ over a field $k$ of characteristic $0$ such that the Jacobian $\det(\partial f_i/ \partial X_j) $ is a nonzero constant, then $k[f_1, \cdots, f_n] = k[X_1, \cdots, X_n]$. For this purpose, we generalize it to the following form~: \noindent {\sf The Generalized Jacobian Conjecture $(GJC)$}~: {\it Let $φ: S \rightarrow T$ be an unramified homomorphism of Noetherian domains with $T^\times = φ(S^\times)$. Assume…
The Ekedahl-Oort type is a combinatorial invariant of a principally polarized abelian variety $A$ defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 0$. It characterizes the $p$-torsion group scheme of $A$ up to isomorphism. Equivalently, it characterizes (the mod $p$ reduction of) the Dieudonné module of $A$ or the de Rham cohomology of $A$ as modules under the Frobenius and Vershiebung operators. There are very few results about which Ekedahl-Oort types occur for Jacobians of curves. In this paper, we consider the class of Hermitian curves, indexed by a prime power $q=p^n$, wh…
The Classical Jacobian Conjecture claims that any unramified endomorphism of a complex affine space is an automorphism. In order to embed this conjecture in a geometric environment, where one could enjoy the beauty and the richness of tools of algebraic geometry and algebraic D-modules, as his paper [6] proves it, Hyman Bass proposed 25 years ago in [6], page 80 the following statement as the Generalized Jacobian Conjecture: "Any unramified morphism from a complex irreducible affine and unirational variety whose invertible regular functions are all constant to a complex affine space of the sam…
In this paper, we consider the moduli space $\cSU_C(r,\cO_C)$ of rank $r$ semistable vector bundles with trivial determinant on a smooth projective curve $C$ of genus $g$. When the rank $r=2$, F. Kirwan constructed a smooth log resolution $\ov{X}\rar \cSU_C(2,\cO_C)$. Based on earlier work of M. Kerr and J. Lewis, Lewis explains in the Appendix the notion of a relative Chow group (w.r.to the normal crossing divisor), and a subsequent Abel-Jacobi map on the relative Chow group of null-homologous one cycles (tensored with $\Q$). This map takes values in the intermediate Jacobian of the compactly…
In this paper we study the Coleman-Oort conjecture for superelliptic curves, i.e., curves defined by affine equations $y^n=F(x)$ with $F$ a separable polynomial. We prove that up to isomorphism there are at most finitely many superelliptic curves of fixed genus $g\geq 8$ with CM Jacobians. The proof relies on the geometric structures of Shimura subvarieties in Siegel modular varieties and the stability properties of Higgs bundles associated to fibred surfaces.
The Jacobian ring J(X) of a smooth hypersurface determines its isomorphism type. This has been used by Donagi and others to prove the generic global Torelli theorem for hypersurfaces in many cases. In Voisin's original proof of the global Torelli theorem for smooth cubic fourfolds the Jacobian ring does not intervene. In this paper we present a proof of the global Torelli theorem for cubic fourfolds that relies on the Jacobian ring and the (derived) global Torelli theorem for K3 surfaces. It emphasizes, once again, the relation between K3 surfaces and smooth cubic fourfolds. More generally, fo…
To every singular reduced projective curve X one can associate, following E. Esteves, many fine compactified Jacobians, depending on the choice of a polarization on X, each of which yields a modular compactification of a disjoint union of the generalized Jacobian of X. We prove that, for a reduced curve with locally planar singularities, the integral (or Fourier-Mukai) transform with kernel the Poincare' sheaf from the derived category of the generalized Jacobian of X to the derived category of any fine compactified Jacobian of X is fully faithful, generalizing a previous result of D. Arinkin …
The paper studies representation theoretic aspects of a nonabelian version of the Jacobian for a smooth complex projective surface $X$ introduced in [R1]. The sheaf of reductive Lie algebras $\bf\calG$ associated to the nonabelian Jacobian is determined and its Lie algebraic properties are explicitly related to the geometry of configurations of points on $X$. In particular, it is shown that the subsheaf of centers of $\bf\calG$ determines a distinguished decomposition of configurations into the disjoint union of subconfigurations. Furthermore, it is shown how to use $sl_2$-subalgebras associat…
A superspecial curve is a (non-singular) curve over a field of positive characteristic whose Jacobian variety is isomorphic to a product of supersingular elliptic curves over the algebraic closure. It is known that for given genus and characteristic, there exist only finitely many superspecial curves, up to isomorphism over an algebraically closed field. In this article, we give a brief survey on results of counting isomorphism classes of superspecial curves. In particular, this article summarizes some recent results in the case of genera four and five, obtained by the author and S.\ Harashita…
