The z-zeros of the modified Bessel function of the third kind K_{nu}(z), also known as modified Hankel function or Macdonald function, are considered for arbitrary complex values of the order nu. Approximate expressions for the zeros, applicable in the cases of very small or very large |nu|, are given. The behaviour of the zeros for varying |nu| or arg(nu), obtained numerically, is illustrated by means of some graphics.

On the zeros of the Macdonald functions

We are concerned with the zeros of the Macdonald functions or the modified Bessel functions of the second kind with real index. By using the explicit expressions for the algebraic equations satisfied by the zeros, we describe the behavior of the zeros when the index moves. Results by numerical computations are also presented.

Asymptotic zero distribution of multiple orthogonal polynomials associated with Macdonald functions

We study the asymptotic zero distribution of type II multiple orthogonal polynomials associated with two Macdonald functions (modified Bessel functions of the second kind). Based on the four-term recurrence relation, it is shown that, after proper scaling, the sequence of normalized zero counting measures converges weakly to the first component of a vector of two measures which satisfies a vector equilibrium problem with two external fields. We also give the explicit formula for the equilibrium vector in terms of solutions of an algebraic equation.

Macdonald Polynomials and Multivariable Basic Hypergeometric Series

We study Macdonald polynomials from a basic hypergeometric series point of view. In particular, we show that the Pieri formula for Macdonald polynomials and its recently discovered inverse, a recursion formula for Macdonald polynomials, both represent multivariable extensions of the terminating very-well-poised 6-phi-5 summation formula. We derive several new related identities including multivariate extensions of Jackson's very-well-poised 8-phi-7 summation. Convergence of Magnus integral addition theorems for confluent hypergeometric functions

In 1946, Magnus presented an addition theorem for the confluent hypergeometric function of the second kind $U$ with argument $x+y$ expressed as an integral of a product of two $U$'s, one with argument $x$ and another with argument $y$. On the complex zeros of Airy and Bessel functions and those of their derivatives

We study the distribution of zeros of general solutions of the Airy and Bessel equations in the complex plane. Our results characterize the patterns followed by the zeros for any solution, in such a way that if one zero is known it is possible to determine the location of the rest of zeros.

The complex zeros of random orthogonal polynomials

We utilize Cauchy's argument principle in combination with the Jacobian of a holomorphic function in several complex variables and the first moment of a ratio of two correlated complex normal random variables to prove explicit formulas for the density and the mean distribution of complex zeros of random polynomials spanned by orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and on the unit disk. We then inquire into the consequences of their asymptotical evaluations.
