We give a new construction of symbols of the differential operators on the sections of a quantum line bundle $L$ over a Kaehler manifold $M$ using the natural contravariant connection on $L$. These symbols are the functions on the tangent bundle $TM$ polynomial on fibres. For high tensor powers of $L$, the asymptotics of the composition of these symbols leads to the star product of a deformation quantization with separation of variables on $TM$ corresponding to some pseudo-Kaehler structure on $TM$. Surprisingly, this star product is intimately related to the formal symplectic groupoid with separation of variables over $M$. We extend the star product on $TM$ to generalized functions supported on the zero section of $TM$. The resulting algebra of generalized functions contains an idempotent element which can be thought of as a natural counterpart of the Bergman projection operator. Using this idempotent, we define an algebra of Toeplitz elements and show that it is naturally isomorphic to the algebra of Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization on $M$.
We investigate the Berezin-Toeplitz operators that operate on the geometric quantized space corresponding to the $SO(3)$-Witten-Chern-Simons theory. We conjecture that the $SO(3)$-Berezin-Toeplitz operators quantized from the A-polynomial annihilate the corresponding $SO(3)$-knot states.
This article is a review on Berezin-Toeplitz operator and Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization for compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds. The basic objects, concepts, and results are given. This concerns the correct semi-classical limit behaviour of the operator quantization, the unique Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization (star product), covariant and contravariant Berezin symbols, and Berezin transform. Other related objects and constructions are also discussed.
We give a proof of a slightly refined version of Gammelgaard's graph theoretic formula for Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on (pseudo-)Kaehler manifolds. Our proof has the merit of giving an alternative approach to Karabegov-Schlichenmaier's identification theorem. We also identify the dual Karabegov-Bordemann-Waldmann star product.
We study the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on Kaehler manifolds. We explain first how to compute various associated asymptotic expansions, then we compute explicitly the first terms of the expansion of the kernel of the Berezin-Toeplitz operators, and of the composition of two Berezin-Toeplitz operators. As application we estimate the norm of Donaldson's Q-operator.
For phase-space manifolds which are compact Kaehler manifolds relations between the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and the quantization with the help of Berezin's coherent states and symbols are studied. First the results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact Kaehler manifolds due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are recalled. It is shown that the covariant symbol map is adjoint to the Toeplitz map. The Berezin transform for compact Kaehler manifolds is discussed. We survey recent results about the asymptotic expansion of Toeplitz operators and their kernels, as well as Berezin-Toeplitz quantization. We deal in particular with calculation of the first coefficients of these expansions.
In this lecture results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds are presented. These results are obtained in joint work with M. Bordemann and E. Meinrenken. The existence of the Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization is also covered. Recent results obtained in joint work with A. Karabegov on the asymptotic expansion of the Berezin transform for arbitrary quantizable compact Kaehler manifolds are explained. As an application the asymptotic expansion of the Fubini-Study fundamental form under the coherent state embedding is considered. Some comm…
For a Kähler manifold $X$ equipped with a prequantum line bundle $L$, we give a geometric construction of a family of representations of the Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization algebra $(C^\infty(X)[[\hbar]],\star_{BT})$ parametrized by points $z_0 \in X$. The key idea is to use peak sections to suitably localize the Hilbert spaces $H^{0}\left(X,L^{\otimes m}\right)$ around $z_{0}$ in the large volume limit.
For arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds it is shown how a natural formal deformation quantization (star product) can be obtained via Berezin-Toeplitz operators. Results on their semi-classical behaviour (their asymptotic expansion) due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are used in an essential manner. It is shown that the star product is null on constants and fulfills parity. A trace is constructed and the relation to deformation quantization by geometric quantization is given.
This talk reports on results on the deformation quantization (star products) and on approximative operator representations for quantizable compact K"ahler manifolds obtained via Berezin-Toeplitz operators. After choosing a holomorphic quantum line bundle the Berezin-Toeplitz operator associated to a differentiable function on the manifold is the operator defined by multiplying global holomorphic sections of the line bundle with this function and projecting the differentiable section back to the subspace of holomorphic sections. The results were obtained in (respectively based on) joint work wi…
We give a complete identification of the deformation quantization which was obtained from the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on an arbitrary compact Kaehler manifold. The deformation quantization with the opposite star-product proves to be a differential deformation quantization with separation of variables whose classifying form is explicitly calculated. Its characteristic class (which classifies star-products up to equivalence) is obtained. The proof is based on the microlocal description of the Szegoe kernel of a strictly pseudoconvex domain given by Boutet de Monvel and Sjoestrand.
Invited lecture at the XIV-th workshop on geometric methods in physics, Bialowieza, Poland, July 9-15, 1995. In this lecture results are reviewed obtained by the author together with Martin Bordemann and Eckhard Meinrenken on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of compact Kaehler manifolds. Using global Toeplitz operators, approximation results for the quantum operators are shown. From them it follows that the quantum operators have the correct classical limit. A star product deformation of the Poisson algebra is constructed.
For compact quantizable Kähler manifolds certain naturally defined star products and their constructions are reviewed. The presentation centers around the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization scheme which is explained. As star products the Berezin-Toeplitz, Berezin, and star product of geometric quantization are treated in detail. It is shown that all three are equivalent. A prominent role is played by the Berezin transform and its asymptotic expansion. A few ideas on two general constructions of star products of separation of variables type by Karabegov and by Bordemann--Waldmann respectively are gi…
We introduce and study, in the framework of a theory of quantum Cartan domains, a q-analogue of the Berezin transform on the unit ball. We construct q-analogues of weighted Bergman spaces, Toeplitz operators and covariant symbol calculus. In studying the analytical properties of the Berezin transform we introduce also the q-analogue of the SU(n,1)-invariant Laplace operator (the Laplace-Beltrami operator) and present related results on harmonic analysis on the quantum ball. These are applied to obtain an analogue of one result by A.Unterberger and H.Upmeier. An explicit asymptotic formula expr…

This work considers a formal deformation of the quantum disc (it is developed via an application of the Berezin method) and presents an explicit formula for this deformation.
Following Nag-Sullivan, we study the representation of the group ${\rm Diff}^+(S^1)$ of diffeomorphisms of the circle on the Hilbert space of holomorphic functions. Conformal welding provides a triangular decompositions for the corresponding symplectic transformations. We apply Berezin formalism and lift this decomposition to operators acting on the Fock space. This lift provides quantization of conformal welding, gives a new representative of the Bott-Virasoso cocylce class, and leads to a surprising identity for the Takhtajan-Teo energy functional on ${\rm Diff}^+(S^1)$.
We use Berezin's quantization procedure to obtain a formal $U_q su_{1,1}$-invariant deformation of the quantum disc. Explicit formulae for the associated q-bidifferential operators are produced.
We investigate the geometric interpretation of quantized Nambu-Poisson structures in terms of noncommutative geometries. We describe an extension of the usual axioms of quantization in which classical Nambu-Poisson structures are translated to n-Lie algebras at quantum level. We demonstrate that this generalized procedure matches an extension of Berezin-Toeplitz quantization yielding quantized spheres, hyperboloids, and superspheres. The extended Berezin quantization of spheres is closely related to a deformation quantization of n-Lie algebras, as well as the approach based on harmonic analysi…
We use operator algebras and operator theory to obtain new result concerning Berezin quantization of compact Kähler manifolds. Our main tool is the notion of subproduct systems of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, which enables all involved objects, such as the Toeplitz operators, to be very conveniently expressed in terms of shift operators compressed to a subspace of full Fock space. This subspace is not required to be contained in the symmetric Fock space, so from finite-dimensional matrix algebras we can construct noncommutative manifolds with extra structure generalizing that of a projec…
We give a new construction of strict deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds equipped with a proper Lagrangian fiber bundle structure, whose representation spaces are the quantum Hilbert spaces obtained by geometric quantization. The construction can be regarded as a "lattice approximation of the correspondence between differential operators and principal symbols". We analyze the corresponding formal deformation quantization. We also investigate into relations between our construction and Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization.
The standard (Berezin-Toeplitz) geometric quantization of a compact Kaehler manifold is restricted by integrality conditions. These restrictions can be circumvented by passing to the universal covering space, provided that the lift of the symplectic form is exact. I relate this construction to the Baum-Connes assembly map and prove that it gives a strict quantization of the manifold. I also propose a further generalization, classify the required structure, and provide a means of computing the resulting algebras. These constructions involve twisted group C*-algebras of the fundamental group whi…
We propose generalized quantization axioms for Nambu-Poisson manifolds, which allow for a geometric interpretation of n-Lie algebras and their enveloping algebras. We illustrate these axioms by describing extensions of Berezin-Toeplitz quantization to produce various examples of quantum spaces of relevance to the dynamics of M-branes, such as fuzzy spheres in diverse dimensions. We briefly describe preliminary steps towards making the notion of quantized 2-plectic manifolds rigorous by extending the groupoid approach to quantization of symplectic manifolds.
